Carrier $45 Unlimited Talk, Text, Data on Straight Talk (AT&T MVNO)?

Yeap, very awful experience. I feel like "we get what we pay for" approach is the reasoning here :)
I believe that Straight Talk is having regional issues. Here in the southwest I've had rock-solid data connectivity across the state... even in places where other carriers have difficulty.

What should they be corrected about with regard to MMS? That there is actually a convoluted method for activating MMS support that is beyond the technical abilities of the average CoM reader?

True, they are THEORETICALLY incorrect about the lack of MMS support, but they are PRACTICALLY correct.

I've used the process of activating MMS, and have repeatedly posted links to the process here in this thread... but it really is beyond most people's ability to do.

I guess I hold a higher regard for CoM readers. I used the "sim swap" method to enable MMS on my iOS 6 beta 4 device and was able to modify my settings on the first try. Although I do consider myself more "tech savvy" than your average Joe, it wasn't difficult by any means. The hardest part was finding a sim that would work.

The problem with most people nowadays is they want everything handed to them on a silver platter. If you can achieve results by just popping in and going, those same people are frustrated and bad mouth the item/service/procedure/etc...

The sim swap method only works with the 4S, it won't work with a 4. It is these little exceptions that make the process of activating MMS on Straight Talk not so straight.

The bottom line is, although we can get an iPhone to use MMS on Straight Talk, Straight Talk does not officially support it. That's an important distinction. I'm a techie, and I can troubleshoot and develop workarounds for things that don't work (out-of-the-box) as I want them to. But to lead non-techies down a primrose path (MMS on ST) without warning them sets them up for frustration down the road. I don't want to be responsible for THAT.

I'm just reporting I've had good results the past week with data sending and receiving. It seems like whatever issues I was having before was most likely AT&T messing about.

Right now the 3G speeds are pretty quick.

I'm also curious when Straight Talk will offer a nano sim card.

Yeah, the NanoSIM is going to be interesting. I'm sure that they will support it when they can - they would NOT want to lose thousands of BYOD customers that want the new iPhone. :apple:

Sure, but the real question is if AT&T will open up their LTE to MVNOs. I suspect not, at least in the near term. So you'll have HSPA+ but seeing as how LTE is one of the big "features" ... (Just as Straight Talk and the other MVNOs have no access to LTE right now currently...)

Seems to be getting better, I haven't had to reset my data at all today.

I guess we'll see if they do or not. I also think they probably won't. It'll be leverage to keep all AT&T customers from going over to MVNOs.

Sprint is giving MVNO's access to LTE so there is some hope it might happen.

If it wasn't for the upcoming iPhone, I would probably jump ship to Straight Talk. Since it doesn't have a contract, you can leave easily later.

But for the 2 months between the end of my contract and the release of the new phone, it wasn't worth the bother.

First of all I would like to say that MMS on iphone is totally legal and straightalk allows it on iphones. Its just hard to configure the settings on iphones so we find a "little" hard to get MMS working. If you have iphone 4 like me than sim swap doesnt work but it is actually easy to get MMS working on iphone 4, perhaps other iphone models too. Check out http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Straight_Talk_iPhone#Data and go through it and than restore the iphone and you will have MMS working on iphone 4 in minutes. I am a second year college student and not a tech savvy(just have some common sense). If I can do it, all you folks out there, can do it as well.
Hope this helped and gave you some zeal to try stuff yourself and feel accomplished like myself!! Or perhaps you can call yourself a little tech savvy after you get it working after this post.
Cheers:apple:

iPay $45.95. It must have something to do with state and local laws. If you buy a refill card from Walmart, supposedly you don't pay taxes.

ok ok gotchaa, will try that and see if its true. If it is , I will just buy the year service card

Interesting... Mine usually comes out to $48 or $49 something, once all those fees and taxes are tacked on. If you do the three month though, it comes out to something closer to $45.

Personally I use my VZW iPad for LTE purposes and very content with speeds via HSPA+

I won't be signing my life away for Faster speeds and roaming agreements but that's just me. Especially now that it seems like the data issues from a few weeks ago are non existent,

If you had been following this thread for some time, then you know that I'm the one that posted that link to the howardforum describing the process. :D

Maybe we need to have it posted on each page. ;-)

(And I being guilty of doing almost the same thing itouchaddicted did.)

oopss my bad. Best occassion to remember Samsung-Apple patent case lol. Me being samsung and you can occupy the Apple's hotseat :D

Since virtually any unlocked phone is compatible with the BYOP plan on StraightTalk, I had high hopes for the iPhone 5. But I heard rumors that the iPhone 5 will require a nano-SIM card, which is a lot smaller than a micro SIM. I don't know if a SIM card cutter is "going to cut it"....no pun intended. Lol.

It's been discussed, they will not.

If I'm not mistaken its due to contact points being cut on the current micro sims
