photographers absolutely can.

if you're going to say "but every pro should be able to do its full capabilities" well then not even a 256GB will allow you to record 4k prores for one hour as some pros need to record professional interviews.
There’s a big difference between not being able to record long enough, and not being able to record at all

The fact isn't buried somewhere in small print where a user has to hunt all over the place to find it. It is located on the tech specs page for the phone in the same sized print as the other words.
Oh, the tech specs page, of course!
But not mentioned on the main features page that describes the iPhone Pro in all it's glory.
That should read 'Shoot, View, Edit and share in ProRes (256GB models and above only for 4K) or Dolby Vision HDR

In fact, it doesn't even have an asterisk which makes it even worse than I originally thought.

for professional work, you're not going to be able to do the job if you can only record 20 minutes of the 1-2 hours you need.

let me guess: "but you can transfer the 20 minutes, delete, and record another 20 minutes"

well if you're going to stall an entire film crew because you didn't want to buy a 1TB iPhone, costing the entire production budget more than the money you saved, then that's just illogical.

Not as illogical as thinking you're going to use an iPhone Pro with a full film crew and entire production budget to make a 2 hour movie. At that sort of production level, the crew would be using pro equipment.

And in any case, what if someone just wanted a 30 second clip. It shouldn't be up to Apple to determine what's available based on memory but rather the user.

You don’t offer a feature (prores recording) and make it unavailable due to storage.

I can understand if they don’t offer it on mid or lower tier models. But it’s unaccepatable to not offer it on pro 128gb models.
I don't need 256GB of space of my phone. Why should I pay for something I will probably never use?

steven soderbergh used an iPhone with a full film crew https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unsane. you're wrong there. not illogical at all.

128GB storage is slower and therefore unlikely to allow 4k prores recording, but pro photographers can absolutely utilize 128GB. what you're suggesting is forcing apple to make 256GB the base model which would be $100 more expensive for photographers who don't need it.

I remember some old keynote where Jobs took pride in mentioning that this is available on every iPhone. Likely a jab at the fragmented Samsung lineup back then where some features would depend on the type of chip, even when phones had same names.
There was only one iPhone available when Steve Jobs was alive. just 3 different capacities.

I dont know if you recall, but Steve Jobs was opposed to larger screens in iPhones, saying that 3.5" fits best.

Steven Soderbergh......seriously! We're talking about someone in a completely different stratosphere to the average Joe who might like to take some film footage.

But to be frank, you're completely missing the point. It's not about forcing anyone to have 256GB if they don't need it, it's simply a case of ensuring that ALL Pro models have the same feature set irrespective of storage....let the user decide. If they use up all their storage because they shot in 4K ProRes....so be it, but do not restrict based on your assumptions about how users might or might not use the item they purchased.

If Steve Jobs was still alive Apple would’ve gone bankrupt

In general, I don’t mind Apple offering lower end storage options (I personally don’t even need 64GB) -- but locking Pro features away (even though it might be understandable due to the file size of ProRes) doesn‘t sit right with me. This is a fully advertised Pro-feature, and if I as a customer buy an “iPhone Pro” model I expect all advertised “Pro” features.
If Apple didn't state the caveat on their tech specs website etc. I would agree with you. It is up to the consumer to get educated before making a purchase.

your point was it was illogical to use an iphone because there's a film crew + entire production budget. showed one case where that's not true.

you're ignoring the part where the hardware might be a restriction. so your only other alternative would be to not sell a 128GB, therefore forcing people to buy a 256GB over a 128GB.

You highlighted one case based on a very well known director that was clearly used for marketing exposure by filming a movie on an iPhone. And if that really was a frequent occurrence, anyone with an entire budget the size you are referring to would not be buying 128GB devices now would they?

In terms of restrictions reference the 128GB and speed, that's another choice made by Apple not a technological constraint.

If the device can’t handle the pro features, it should be removed from the pro lineup. Start Pro lineups with 256GB!
I'm ok with Apple starting the Pro's with 256gb.. They just won't keep the price at $999/$1099. Apple hasn't raised the base price of the FaceID phones since they launched the X and the following year when the larger XS Max was released.. I actually thought this year the Pro's would increase by $100 across the board..
