I need SBSettings, adn the ability to change different themes, but otherwise I will wait for a non tethered JB, do not like tethered ones just in case...

There's a semi-tethered jailbreak out, which is almost as good as untethered...I assume you are worried about your phone being a brick if it restarts or turns off and you do not have access to your computer.

Semi-tethered means your phone will start up again, everything will work except Cydia, jailbreak tweaks, Mobile Safari and email. You can download Atomic Browser for free from the App store and that would still work to surf the web and check your email if needed. Phone calls, texts, and all apps will work. When you are back at your cpu, you simply boot tethered again and your jailbreak is back.

I miss my TV Lock Animation the most, lol

But considering this is the first iPhone I've had, I'd love to try out some of the other tweaks, like MyWi, 3G Unrestrictor, Facetime on 3G, and others exclusive to iPhone

You just have to install a repo in Cydia, and then install the Semi-tether package.

Add this repo:

http://thebigboss.org/semitether/

Then install the package. It's in beta which is why it's separate from the Big Boss repo, but I have not had any issues, rebooted my phone and everything working except what I stated in my prior post. Downloaded Atomic Browser and a mail client from the app store to be able to surf web and check email if I ever reboot on the road.

Ok, so I need to Tether JB and then install the package from that repo, and I should be ok.

Thanks!

That's correct, enjoy

Oh, you cannot jailbreak a 4S, I take it you have an Iphone 4.

dunno how people started talked about the iphone 4, this is about the 4s...I definitely miss several things. Hopefully it will be less than 2 months

Because iPhone 4 owners don't have an untethered jailbreak if they upgraded to iOS 5. So they are in the same boat as the iPhone 4S users.

Not really, at least they have a jailbreak. I jail broke my iPhone 4 on iOS5 before buying the 4S, and after setting it up with all the tweaks I never once had to reboot my phone. You can still re-spring but not reboot. I would rather have this than no jailbreak at all.

I still won't do a untethered jailbreak. Did it once, and some of the cydia apps I used were unstable with the newly released iOS and crashed my phone, causing a reboot.

Regardless, if someone is using an iPhone 4 and haven't jailbroken their phone, then it's thread does apply to iPhone 4 users.

True. Any of the tweaks can cause your phone to reboot even if it was made to work for the current OS, but then again you also have a semi-tethered jailbreak now so at least you still have a phone to use in case this happens.

Again the title of the thread is "4S owners... how are you holding up without a jailbreak so far?"

This. And also mentioned multiple times, installing a package in Cydia will cause your phone to no longer be "tethered" in the sense that causes dread among people who hate tethered, which is your phone rebooting or shutting off in public, rendering it useless until at your PC. Now if that happens you have an almost fully functional iphone, use your apps, get calls, send/receive texts, surf the web with a free app store browser, etc. I downloaded Atomic Browser and a mail client from the app store in case my phone ever reboots on the go, so I will have the full function of what any non-jailbroken person can do.

That being said, the os is extremely stable, and even when problems a respring is all thats needed, almost never a reboot.

iPhone4 and iPhone4s are basically the same. To regular consumers one won't be able to distinguish the difference with the small band.

And they both don't have an untethered jailbreak so this thread fits all iOS5 devices.

1. Regular consumers won't be jailbreaking their iPhones.
2. Does the iPhone 4 have a jailbreak?
3. Maybe you should have the OP change the name of the thread to "iOS5 users... how are you holding up without a untethered jailbreak so far?" or feel free to start your own thread.:)

I miss SBSettings with the "Remove Background" toggle. Almost nothing annoys me more than having to individually close every background app.

I really miss SMS GV Extension. I do not pay for SMS and Siri is pretty much integrated into the default SMS app. I would like to be able to use Siri, the stock SMS app and Google Voice to text my contacts seamlessly.

Again the title of the thread is "4S owners... how are you holding up without a jailbreak so far?"

Again, nobody cares about the title since I pointed out to you that it also refers to me as well since I do miss my jailbreak.

From here I am going to ignore the rest of your stupid responses in this thread and assume you're being a douche on purpose.

I never realized exactly how much I used SBSettings until I started using my 4S. I must try ad swipe the top of the screen for the SBSETTINGS menu about 20x a day out of habit.

And I HATE HATE HATE the iOS native multitasking. I cannot stand having every single thing go into background automatically. It wreaks havoc on apps like chat apps or game apps or email when you go into a bad reception area because the get stuck in a "connecting/updating/searching" loop. But if you close it from multitask then re-open it the app will be fine. It's highly annoying bringing up that app menu and exiting everything after you close it. Wich it could just turn off. Hence missing the jailbreak. Forgot what it was called, "MyOS" maybe?, but you could disable Apple's multitasking.

has anyone seen any mention of a 4s jailbreak from the dev team or people responsible for the jailbreaks?
i follow a few people on twitter and this site and havent seen any indication that a jailbreak is even being worked on.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Yea nothing yet which isn't unlike them, they're usually quiet (chronic dev is at least, comes and geohot are vocal, but also not on the JB scene anymore apparently).
