Technically I'll be upgrading from a Palm Pixi Plus, but I only got that in April (because it was $45, off contract, and got me unlimited data at the time) but I really feel like I'm upgrading from my LG EnV (original) that I had been using since 2006.

My upgrade status at VZW stated that I've been eligible for an upgrade since July of 2008.
 
3g to 3gs was a huge upgrade in my opinion and 4->4s will be a huge upgrade as well. Every upgrade so far has been worth it and I'm betting this will be no different.
 
I'm really surprised about the people upgrading from the 4 as well, but I guess considering the sample group, it's not that surprising. I think overall, the population as a whole, 3GS is the main upgrade path, with a healthy dose of 3G, and plenty of switchers. Personally I'm coming from the 3G. In the future, I'll probably upgrade every-other phone.

That 25% non-iPhone is pretty huge, especially for the MacRumors crowd. Hooray market share!
 
Since I was able to sell both my iPhone 4 and the wife's for 350 each I figured why not, plus I needed to go back to a 32 cause 16 was not cutting it for me.
 
upgrading from iPhone. I had the iPhone then went to 3GS then that lasted me until a few months before iPad2 launch, when I knew I was going to get an iPad2 I thought id switch to a Blackberry to try something different. Blackberry was okay..until i got the iPad2 and realized i wanted an iPhone back so I've been using my original iPhone for about 4 months since I've given up on the POS blackberry..sold it and it paid for 75% of my iPhone4S
 
iPhone 3GS (white 32 gb). This think has been a tank. Being replaced by an iPhone 4s (white 16 gb)
 
Cool poll. I'm a bit shocked at all the 4 folks. Thought it would be 3GS hands down.

God this phone is such a hideous piece of garbage and I've had it for at least five-six years. Friday can't come soon enough. I kept waiting for the iPhone to come to Verizon then that waiting was followed by waiting for the new iPhone to come out since the 4 was released on Verizon a little late.

Black 16gb iPhone 4 to White 32gb 4s. Girlfriend's 3G is dying a slow death so she gets the iP4. Otherwise I'd probably wait to see what the story is next summer. Good news about the iPhone 5 and I'd hold out for that but no news and I'd pull the trigger on the 4s.
 
Perhaps a more appropriate title for this thread would be:

What phone are you replacing with your new iPhone 4S.

Why? Because the current title assumes... something, we don't know if the 4S is an actual upgrade, downgrade, or equal.

Now watch the vitriolic responses this post receives. Some prefer to spew hate, than respect that we all have our own preferences. :)
 
Iphone 4. For the person who asked about paying 250, i got my iphone 4 on launch day last summer, and i had a full upgrade this time, so why not?

My reasons:

I love taking pics and video, and the new improved cameras got me drooling
It'll be a bit faster
I wanted a white iphone 4 and was hella bummed when they weren't available
I want to see how Siri is
Cards is gonna come in handy for sending stuff to my mom
I love Apple phones and I'm a total technofile.

I started out with the 3G, tho I didn't buy it til the following January-at that time i didn't really follow phone release dates. Obvs when the 3GS came out six mos later i din't upgrade, but i did grab the four, and now the 4S :)

I don't think I'll be so lucky as to have a full upgrade next year, so I'll probly sell my 4S to make up the difference so I can get the 5. :)
