"Build and they will come." The 4.7" is perfect for me. No personal interest in a 5.5". The article is correct however. Also, don't underestimate the number of 5" Android users that will switch back to a large iPhone 6. They are out there, quietly keeping to themselves. Waiting to hit "Confirm." :apple:

Oh, you mean an ipad?

No, I mean
A device that I always have with me.
A device constantly connected to data.
A device that is easier to handle.
A device... not devices.

My iPad works great at home or in the plane. Everywhere else, I usually just have my phone with me. I wouldn't mind having the benefit of a larger screen everywhere else.

I will delay to see how they both fit in my hands. Chances are the 5.5 will be too big for me, but who knows.

how can they say we're willing to pay 100$ more for it if we haven't even seen a mockup of it yet? :D

I really don't understand the desire for these gigantic phones... I wouldn't choose the 5.5in model if it was the same price much less pay a $100 premium for one.
You might not understand it, but surely you recognize there's a demand? Especially in Asia.

You forget that Apple is announcing the iBezel 9000, not a sleek, trimmed down phone like the Moto X. A 4.7" iPhone will likely be bigger than competing 5.0" phones.

Maybe it will be bigger then the Moto x, but not bigger then GS5.

I'd like to see a 128Gb option. Given the prices don't indicate flash costs, if they went to 32, 64 and 128Gb with the 5C at 16Gb handling the entry level, it would suit me down to the ground.

Me neither.

You've described why the phablet might not be the best choice for you. But I am not you, and you don't have any business telling me that my reasons are not "truthful". Perhaps you are the one who is lying to yourself.) You don't have a way of knowing all of my needs, which makes your reasons for wanting to deny me access to a phablet irrelevant.

For me, texting is easier on a larger device, so for texting, I'd prefer an iPad. But I don't want to carry my iPad with me every where I go, so a larger iPhone will be better. Same goes for music in the car--easier for me on a larger device. I'm looking forward to taking pictures with the bigger screen, though my iPad's screen is really too big for most photo-taking situations. I don't usually hold my phone up to my ear when I'm making calls, so I don't have a reason to need it to fit comfortably in my hand (most smartphones, including the current iPhone, aren't all that ergonomic for holding up to your ear anyway).

Those are my reasons for wanting the larger device, and I think they are more logical and truthful for me than yours are for wanting me not to have it.

No, I just stated that I believe an iPhone is objectively better for certain tasks and that an iPad is objectively better for other tasks. I made no statements about you specifically or not wanting you to have a phablet.

That being said, I'll go ahead and address that now...

Look, you can say all day long that it's easier for you to drive down the road and change songs with a 5.5in phone than it is to do with a 4in. phone. You can tell me that it's all personal preference and I don't understand because I'm not you. I could tell you that it's easier for me to turn an 18 wheeler around in a parking lot than it is for me to turn a Honda civic around. The issue is that we'd both be delusional because its not really personal or opinionated. The person in the Honda (whether it's me or you) is going to do doughnuts while laughing at the idiot driving the 18 wheeler.

It's actually easy to understand.

If you have a need or desire for combining a large screen and a phone in one device that still fits in most pockets, then a phablet is perfect.

There are also lots of people who don't want to (or can't) buy both a phone and tablet. Again, phablet to the rescue.

It's a good all around soluttion for those who really need the extra display room in a pocketable format, at least until we get foldable tablet phones in the next few years.

so basically $199 for 4.7" iPhone 6 16GB and $299 for 5.5" iPhone 6 16GB...would be interesting to see how many people would dish out the extra $100.

iPhone 6 size

I would pay the extra ONLY IF its wider and therefore useable, and not longer.:cool:A longer phone serves no purpose and makes no sense. Just go visit Samsung and HTC for advice on this one.

If Apple only announces and releases a 4.7" iPhone 6 initially, or even announces both a 4.7" and 5.5" iPhone 6 but delays the 5.5" iPhone 6, I wonder how many people will sit back and wait for the larger iPhone, just because they want to compare them in person before settling on one or the other?

I know I'll definitely want to try both out before settling on one or the other as being the replacement to my iPhone 4S for the next 2-4 years.

For me, the only possible way I'd get the 4.7" is if a 5.5" doesn't come period. If they say a 5.5" will come later, I'll be waiting.

The real question isn't if we would pay $100 more, it's if we would wait for it to be released. Especially if they don't announce is existence the same time as iPhone 6, 4.7".

You might not understand it, but surely you recognize there's a demand? Especially in Asia.

Absolutely. There's definitely a market for it. My question/contention is that, by and large, is the market there because of people wanting these devices for some functional reason or is the demand there because people want to be different? Here's a few examples that will really explain what I'm talking about:

I slept with a girl about a month ago. She was really into me but I wasn't all that into her. The next morning we were up and talking and I asked her if she wanted to go get some food. She said "sure." I named a place and she said, "no, I don't like cheeseburgers." I thought to myself, "well that's wierd, who doesn't like cheeseburgers?" Then I asked, "What about this place?" She said, "no, I don't like Pizza." Then I said, "do you not get enough attention?" She was either confused or embarrassed; I don't know which one.

My first girlfriend in high school sneezed a lot when I drove her home for the first time. She said it was because she sneezed when she got nervous. Come to find out she liked me and was trying to avoid any awkward silence.

The last girl I dated told me she didn't like french fries on our first date. Two months later I catch her eating fries and she says, "I can only eat them with a lot of ketchup." Imagine how unsurprised I was a few months later when I saw her eating a fry without ketchup.

I've got a roommate that calls onions, "hanyins." He calls sweat tea, "Shweat Tea." He does it because it's "his thing" even though we both know it takes a special effort on his part.

The point is that the people in all these examples were lying to sound interesting. My thought process is that the same reason the girl I slept with last month "doesn't like burgers" is the same reason that guys have 5.5inch phones.

Ditto. I think 5.5 is going to fail the "fits in my pocket comfortably" test. I'm not even sure the 4.7 will pass that one, honestly.

My wife fits a 4.7" Moto X easily in her pants pockets. If you're wearing pants that cant fit something that size in the pocket, what are you wearing?

When they unveil the iPhone 6 and it comes time to purchase a few thoughts go through my mind. I consider the fact that if I did purchase the 4.7 inch screen it may be sufficient. In my mind though, knowing I'll have the phone for at least a year, I might later regret not having got the bigger size. I don't see the opposite happening, but it is possible. Bigger isn't always better, but man you would think for as long as we have been holding out for a bigger screen people would be all about a 5.5. Even 4.7 is a big deal for Apple.

I suppose if you want the phone to fit in your pocket you may be some issues there, but I rarely do as I hate having items in my pocket and prefer them as empty as possible. Hell sometimes I walk around without any on. I got arrested twice last week. Anyways, I'm excited ya'll. I do think 32gb should be the new standard. This would mean $200 for 32gb iPhone 6 / 4.7. I could totally dig that and would respect Apple for it. As much as I desire and will purchase cloud storage, I still want a decent hard drive. In terms of getting things right compared to competitors Apple is doing it right with the screen size, but we get put to shame when it comes to onboard / expandable memory.

The iPhone got "taller" or "longer" once when it switched from a 3:2 aspect ratio to a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Since the iPhone and all other phones have pretty much settled on 16:9 for the foreseeable future... any increase in screen size will be both "taller" and "wider"

Or in other words... "bigger"

The question I have is - what kind of apps will a 5.5" iPhone use? Will it use iPhone apps? That might be an awful lot of underused real estate. Will it use iPad apps? They would be kinda scrunched. Or, will they use some sort of hybrid? That means a 3rd app size to develop for, but probably the correct way to go.
