Except Samsung isn't selling the Note as just a bigger Galaxy S and they're not released at the same time. Galaxy S in the spring, Note in the fall. IMO, with iPhone screen size should be the only differentiation. Or keep the screen size the same but make one model a "premium" model that's more expensive.

Samsung is also releasing an premium version of the S5 that has QHD, 805 SoC and maybe a full metal back! After the Note 4.

you can't compare apple to samsung. Samsung is like a greedy little kid who sees shiny things, buys the lot, stuffs them in a box and sells them. Apple takes its time to understand problems and uses, they then go about solving those and then they share it with the world.

We do have one FACT to go on. Apple informed carriers the high end model will be $100 higher price point. This would account for a better processor, sapphire glass, larger display or some combination.

The larger form factor allows for a more advanced processor for cooling purposes or thermal envelope.

The possibility that the 4.7 and 5.5" form factors may be shipped a month or more apart is not all that different from shipments of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

The rumors that the larger iPhone6 will be branded as iPhone Air fits all these details.

Actually Samsung already is selling a version of Galaxy S5 with a faster processor, called Galaxy S5 LTE-A.

The article is missing one crucial information. The iPad Air is already faster than the iPad Mini with less throttling and a higher clock speed. If this differentiation is something similar to that, I don't see why people should get angry, especially if the 5.5" iPhone has more pixels than the 4.7" version.

A more power processor would make sense to compensate a higher resolution screen.

Exactly. Not only is there a processor difference you will have a screen resolution difference as well. But I still don't believe that 2 new iphones will be released this year. The 4.7" model will be a hot seller.

rumours says same pixels

[Inflamatory post]

I think the 4.7 inch should have the faster processor and the 5.5 should be the slower one, leaving consumers divided on which is the "better" phone, the one with the pocket bulging size or the one with the better chipset.

This just in!

iPhone 4.7" will be called "iPhone 6C"
iPhone 5.5" will be called "iPhone 6"

Haha, I'd love to see the reactions about that. ;)

More likely:

iPhone 4.7" will be called "iPhone Air"
iPhone 5.5" will be called "iPhone Pro"

Another possibility could be Apple wants to shift the iPhone release to April/May and the release of the 5.5" iPhone may be delayed to April/May 2015. At that time, Apple will release both the 4.7" and 5.5" iPhone 6s, both with the improved specs, including the A9. Yeah, I know it's another nightmare scenario for some of you.

I smell a 6S 6C in the works..... 5.5 sounds awesome if it'll have better specs but it can't fit it my pants though.... Specs vs Comfortability

I agree with this. That naming convention sounds easy to remember and is less likely to confuse consumers.

Always Waiting...

I originally was going to get the 6, but since ATT upgraded my iPhone 4s to a 5 when it broke, I think I'm good until the 7 comes out and I'm out of contract. I think I'm officially off the smart phone chase. :) I kind of want a cheap "dumb phone" next.

5.5

The 5.0 or larger phones that I've seen look kind of silly. I suspect a 5.5 will also look weird to me. I think I'm going to be getting the 4.7 and being part of the group pushing for phones to be small and fit easily in my pockets.

I'm very uncomfortable with the possibility that Apple is now making a 5.5 inch iPhone, more uncomfortable still that they may be making them in two sizes.

It feels like they were huge fans of the whole "put all your wood behind one arrow" philosophy, and I'm starting to think that, in their words, they're confusing choice with abundance.

If the rumors are true, then Tim needs to find his way back.

No worries - another junk from ANALysts - Apple does a fabulous job keeping their processors under wrap - rarely anything leaks from that part of the business.

This will be same A8 but minor frequency scaling on the 5.5 - ala - Ipad Air vs Ipap Mini.

Somebody should make a "Macrumors without Analysts" safari extension.

This is what I feared. Not everyone wants a large phone, but that doesn't mean they want inferior technology.

It's more like how the mac air is inferior to the macbook pro though. New stuff, just not as high spec's.

----------

Now to say the smaller 6 will be a C would be a stretch.

C is just a letter, nothing more or less. It has nothing to do with new or last years parts, they can actually call it any letter they want.

----------

4.7" device = iPhone 6

5.5" device = iPad nano (aka iPhad)

;)

4" iphone shuffle. (aka iphod)
