Point of fact but you did get Apple AI and so did everyone else who bought an iPhone 16 Pro.

What you didn't get, as you pointed out, was the personal assistant.

What you also got was an amazing iPhone. If you feel you got "suckered" then I would humbly suggest that in the future you don't base your purchasing decisions based on one feature.

Apple is WAY behind in the AI field which is why Gemini, masked as Siri, is being rushed out the door.

A brilliant move by Tim Cook… 4D chess kinda stuff, if I ever saw one.
1. Buy up Google stock
2. Give up control of your company’s future to your main competitor
3. Step down as CEO
4. Let the next guy take the blame for Apple’s failing business
5. Laugh all the way to the bank
 
Pretty soon, we’ll be seeing, “Designed in Cupertino, powered by Google”.

In all seriousness, this could become a grave situation for Apple. What happens when everyone becomes hooked on Siri/Gemini (and they will), but as time goes on, Siri starts “mysteriously” falling behind other chatbots/AI while all the latest advancements are found in Android first?

This situation reminds me of when Apple was beholden to Microsoft’s productivity apps, and MS always released the latest and greatest Office features for Windows first. That was an existential threat, and so is this.
 
I turned Siri off within hours of getting my iPhone 4S after realizing it was nothing more than a glorified timer setter. After 15 years - Siri still sucks. No one wants an overhauled Siri … in a lot of people’s minds, Siri will always be that annoying bad assistant that always just asks “do you want me to search the web for you” Apple needs to kill it and just start over from the ground up.

Siri was never an AI assistant
 
My guess is, if it will be released with OS version 27 no earlier than in October 2026... the catch will be: you'll have to buy new hardware! That's probably the reason why a new HomePod and ATV are delayed - I'm expecting no new HomePod's and ATV until October or late November 2026.
 
So basically everything Alexa has been doing for 10 years and what my 16 ProMax was supposed to do out of the box. Great...

The way people are umbilically attached to their phones, they probably call it mummy or sexy or weirdly both.

Why should they change just to give the new name a bad reputation too?

And if it’s actually good, then people will fairly quickly forget about how bad it was before.
 
My first question is will it have a subscription? I use Perplexity and Claude as my search engine/research systems and they both have a subscription tier for more complex questions/answers etc. if the new Apple Siri can automatically get to my existing data to make the info relevant without me directly providing it, I am in, otherwise I will stay with what I use today.
