Glad it's not just me! Why is it so hard to move an app icon into a folder? It's almost like the app and the folder are very strong magnets of the same polarity -- the more you try to get them together, the farther one goes!
I am suspect we will see them. They've said this before and nothing has changed to improve their ability to do this.

1. You can't use it for agentic coding
2. You can't use it for any serious work
3. It is designed to impress less technical people who aren't well informed of currently leading AI models
4. It will be placed behind strong guard rails to prevent law suites
5. It will send data to Google, the exact company you have been trained by apple to fear. But this time they will tell you that they do it in a safe way by masking your identity.

Reality Distortion Field much?
Apple AI was marketed as a personal assistant and one of major reasons to get new iPhone (on-device AI etc.), it was never delivered.
None of that "better stuff" has access to the data on your iPhone or Mac, and also that Better Stuff cannot access the APIs on the iPhone or Mac to do this for you.
For example, I might say to the new Siri, "Aak Jin, what he thinks about the new requirements document?" and new Siri would know which of the documents I'm working on, and it would know how to send Jim an email, and it would know which Jim I mean. You could do this with that Better Stuff, but it would mean a lot of copy/paste.

Siri sucks. You don’t have to convince me.
The other day I asked it driving directions to one of my contacts and it said it couldn’t do that while driving. And then it said it didn’t have an address for that contact. And then I threw my iPhone out the window.
What I said was: Apple will get it right eventually. Because no other company has access to the OS and ecosystem.

I feel even though it won’t be as capable as other chat bots out there gate, don’t underestimate the impact this will have. For every person who uses chatGPT or Claude, how many others have iPhones and has heard of AI chat bots but havent tried it yet. If this is free or bundled in some way, I can see it doing well.

I won’t judge what Apple is trying to do by Image Playground and what they shipped that year because it was ages ago. I’ll judge them by their latest try: Creative Studio in a $12.99 monthly subscription. IT SUCKs.

Yes. This is part of the inevitable move to monetizing every aspect of Apple’s hardware.
It’s giving me pause. I’m thinking about moving to Linux laptop and flashing Graphene OS on a second number just to maintain an option. Nothing works like my Apple devices, but this trend makes the experiment worthwhile.
You’re right about 1 to 4. But not 5: they can’t be that stupid. They will have to run Gemini in-house.

Hold on with that Linux laptop for a second. So far Apple left all their consumer productivity software free to use (Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Freeform, Image Playground, Garage Band, iMovie and some more).
If you are a casual user or a sole trader, you can probably make it work. If you are a business, the $15 a month should be ok, as long as you are not developing your own AI tool and thus burning your own money, making huge losses. 😉
Just to compare, Adobe Creative Cloud plan starts at $55/months for individuals.
