I still believe Apple will ship the 5870 when 10.6.5 is released.

I see no reason for Apple not to ship them. My order is still in the system a temp charge has been applied to my credit card. Really everything seems normal to me.

Yeah, my order shows up in my order history. If an Apple rep can't find that, he's a few french fries short of a happy meal, cause I certainly can find it.

It'll ship when it ships. As far as I can tell, my order is in the system.

After the disappointment with the last phone call I made. I decided to call Apple Canada and spoke to a senior sales advisor. He understood the issue and said that it is definitely ridiculous that it has taken this long to become available for order. He said that he is having a meeting with other top managers tomorrow and that he will definitely get the issue addressed and solved. He said that he will be calling me back tomorrow to update me on the issue. Let's see what a new day shall yield for the long-awaited 5870

Last week I gotmy hex mac pro with 5870. It was delayed by 2 days. In total it took 10 days from order to shipment. I'm betting the delay was cuz of the graphics card. Looks like Apple is prioritizing their stock to new system orders. Dunno...just my guess
Weird that my local Apple store in Toronto had quite a few 5770 in stock.

I tried to cancel my order but couldn't because it is prossessing. I did some thinking and really don't need the card right now. Going to save my $ and wait till I really need it. Was going to buy it to play a few games here and there but realize the GT120 will do for now. And maybe they'll come out with a better card when I do need it.

Hi all. Update from the UK here - I ordered mine at Nov 7, 2010 at 01:07 AM GMT, and gave them a call just a moment ago to check the status - as with some of you here, my order "was placed but seems stuck in the system" and that it's been passed on to another team to "see if they can unstick it"

I'm supposed to call back in 24-36hrs if I've not heard anything, and the guy on the phone had no information on when the 5870 itself might become available.

The wait continues...

Update
Ok. something very weird going on now. I'd ordered a MDP-> DVI cable along with the 5870. I just got an order confirmation email for ONLY the cable, and checking the online order status, the 5870 has vanished from the order. Strangely, there's also a THIN FIREWIRE CABLE, 6-6 PIN, 0.5M-GEN showing as cancelled as part of that order, which I never added.. What is going on?

Update 2
Just got off the phone with Apple for the second time today. I got told that the 5870 being available to be ordered was a mistake, and that it's still unavailable with no ETA on when it might be in stock. I suspect this is going to be the case for everyone here that's ordered it, but we'll see.. Might just go for the 5770 instead at this rate.

That actually sounds about right:

The "Add To Cart" button in the USA Apple online store has disappeared for the 5870!

This sounds ridiculous but I'm to the point I'm ready to get the 5770 and hope a year from now they release the next revision with the next series AMD cards.

Well I read up that some people had their order status details for the order disappear from the "Your Orders" page on the Apple Store. Is this true? Cause I still have mine there and hoping they do cancel it on it's own since I've changed my mind on the card. Big disappointment that the 5870 still won't be available. I'm going to be using my GT120 for a very very longggg time....

Mine has been cancelled, and I have an automated email stating

We would like to inform you that the item MC743ZM/A-STANDALONE KIT - ATI 5870-ZML is no longer available for purchase on the Apple Store.

There is currently no replacement available and despite our efforts to obtain this item for you, we unfortunately had to cancel this product from your order. Apple will adjust the price of your order accordingly.

If it doesn't become available when 10.6.5 is released, I'll very begrudgingly settle for a 5770.

Interesting. Haven't gotten such an e-mail yet (assuming one will be sent out).

Maybe the UK store is running things a bit differently.

Mine was in the UK, I got no mail and when I checked online it showed a cancelled firewire cable that I never ordered - certainly different

It is still showing up on both my order page and my credit card.

Wait and see I suppose.

On the credit card it is just the temporary authorization Apple always does when you first order something off the store.

Just checked... Mine is now gone :(

4 months waiting for it to be released.
Well, if it ends up not being available at the time 10.6.5 goes live, them I guess I'll just pick up a firepro and migrate to windows. It's just that whats happening now it's just plain ridiculous from apple, lol 4 months wait, sometimes it's available to order, sometimes not, when ordered a couple of days later it's cancelled. What's this? A middle finger at my face?

It's hard because I understand why ATI doesn't have workstation Mac cards, or new NVIDIA cards, because our market is too small for it to be worth their time.

I will admit that I have no issues running 10.6 or Win7, my CS5 apps run the same (sometimes faster in Windows 7) and there are about 20 models (and 100's of variations) to choose from at any given time. It's very frustrating.

5870 Order Status- item no longer available!

my order: Nov 7th, 2010

I just received the following answer from the Apple store:
We are sorry to tell you, that item MC743ZM/A-STANDALONE KIT - ATI 5870-ZML is no longer and will probably never be available in the Apple Store.

My order has been canceled and my credit won't be charged.

My order is still in my account, but at this point I'm not sure how much longer it'll be there. I was told they manually pushed my order to fulfillment by a senior manager, so maybe it'll ship for me?

Unlikely, but I can wish myself luck.

Is this exactly what was said on the e-mail you received from Apple or did it say just "NO LONGER AVAILABLE" because if it will never be available that is a much more serious matter!

I don't think a delay or non-release of a single videocard begs an entire operating system shift to an inferior operating system, file structure, tech support and security. Just my opinion, but that seems a little drastic when the 5770 IS available.

How did you do that?

Lol dude osX has for more critical security breaches than win7, most of them undocumented, leaving the user in the blind. Inferior file system? ZFS is the superior file system, neither osX or windows supports. Surely the dll hell and registry are quite PITA sometimes due to m$ demanding backwards compatibility and at last for costumer support, lol m$ wins there, even more more win if you're in the enterprise market.
Should I mention how awesome the osX drivers are? Jumping lines on autocad with either the hd4870 or the gtx285, it even tears sometimes, not yet a full implementation of open gl 3 when 4 is already out for quite sometime.
Ho yeah let's go put on the top of the line pro from 2009 a crappy low range graphics card that costs the double of the pc version.

I hope you're being sarcastic! The 5770 is an entry level $120 card selling for $250 on the Apple store, not exactly the best option. I think he is referring to the fact you can choose from a vast array of vendors, models and workstation cards as well as consumer.
