I was out today but got the email ships on the 21st of Dec. Arrives on the 22nd.

10.6.5 appears and Apple finally finds some 5870's to ship. Only took 6 months.

just placed order, expedited via apple Canada edu store. Leaves within 24 hours, nov. 16-19 delivery:D should kick the snot outta my gt120 crap.... (and to think my wife said when we got it that I should have paid the extra 200 for the 4870 (hence why she's ok with me getting a 400$ card but not so sure about going with the quadro 4000 at 1200$)... I'd still be thinking my card was ok if that was what I did, but the 5870 should rock the socks off my design programs comparatively)

AHHH! I'm not sure what to do!? Should I cancel and reorder hoping for the 24hrs or is mine really going to ship next month!?

Update to my shipping details:

ATI RADEON HD 5870 1GB-ZML
MC743ZM/A
Ships: within 24 hours
Delivers: Nov 13 - Nov 18

I cheated, however. I called and asked nicely about the possibility of having my shipping date updated to reflect the new status posted on Apple's website regarding 24-hour shipment, and the nice lady changed it for me. She had to go in and cancel the old order with the December shipping date, and replace it with a new order, while still keeping my order number the same. For some reason, they cannot alter the old order per se with a new shipping date, so now my order has two cards: One canceled 5870 that shipped in Dec. and one 5870 shipping within 24 hours.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

As dumb as this may sound, you should cancel your order and reorder.
I did it through the Apple Store phone line.
You can do it through their web site also.

Cancelled and reordered about 2 hours ago and it's already prepared for shipment

Meh....

I'll wait to see what the HD 6970's performance looks like. It might be better to go with a flashed HD 6970 and not be a full generation behind.

HD 6970 will be out in about 30 days. Maybe another 7-14 for Cindori & company to get their hands on it and Mac-ify it. I can wait.

Good luck to those who decided to go through Apple. Even though $449 is too much to pay :apple: for an HD 5870, I wish you all the best of luck with the card.

....drivers?

The 5870 is faster than any of the 6xxx cards, so not sure why you would wait. Plus isn't the biggest downfall of flashing a PC card are point updates breaking them?

well mine is now 'prepared for shipment' so I expect a shipment notification sometime today... and as to the 6970/6870 crowd, the 5870 IS faster than the 6870, which we may get based on 10.6.5; the 6970 should be faster, but we are not guaranteed that they will even release the mac version yet (it might be in testing, it might not), it may not be until next year, and then we might see the same drama we've had with the 5870, no stock just a listing for months on end. Who knows, maybe apple will release the 6870 as a replacement for the 5870 and charge 399 for it.... wouldn't be the first time they put a lower power card in to replace the former top end....
