So, the other thread with the list of compatibility issues says the 5870 works on the two 1,1 undocumented Boot Roms, but still isn't booting on the MP11.005C.B08. I just ordered this card, so I'm a bit nervous now. Has there really been any more information on this?

Here's the other thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1002692/

If it doesn't work you can always return it, just say that you didn't notice it was only for the 2009/2010 rev's and only noticed that when you started reading the instructions manuals. Just be sure to not scratch the card or put smudges all over it.

Still a bit of a gamble. I sent barefeats an e-mail about it. Maybe he can shed some more light. I hope...anyways

Received my card this morning, but did get to install it until a few minutes ago. The HD 5870 replaced a GTX 285 and a GT 120, so that freed up a PCIe slot to use for something else.

I'm running a 30" monitor on the DVI port and 2 20" monitors via miniDP to DVI adapters on the 2 miniDP ports. Everything is working fine and no graphics issues at this time (*knock on wood*)

My OpenGL applications work and that's good. Haven't noticed any performance issues. I will probably boot into Windows and see how the card performs. The card is very quiet and that's good.

Glad to hear it is working for you Alphaod.

Barefeats got back to me on the 1,1 Mac Pro boot roms. So far it's not looking good. I might just return the card without opening it to avoid the restocking fee. I'm a bit bummed because I really need to get rid of the 4890 in there since there'll be no more patches to make it work in future OS updates.

Does it rev up during boot like the hd 4870?
Since you're going to test it on windows, check if eyefinity works and the core/memory clocks (850MHz/1195MHz).
Using autocad? Check if you get jumping/missing lines.

Maybe you could get an used hd 4870.

Sorry I only owned the HD 4870 for a couple days before I sold it to by the GTX 285, so I cannot compare the two. The card did rev up on the first boot, but did not on subsequent boots.

I will check the core and memory clocks and report back on that.

As with AutoCAD, sorry I do not use it. I can probably get the trial and test it out, but that is not a real priority for me.

I currently have both a 4870 and 4890 in my Mac Pro. I'm powering one through the Super Drive.

I have three monitors so I was hoping the 5870 would be my solution and I could sell them both.

Them another hd4870 will do, or, since it's just to run an additional display a hd3870 would be perfect and cheap.

Should be getting both my 5870s tomorrow because of the order mishap... I wonder if I should keep both, buy an optical drive power supply and run crossfire in windows?

Played CoD: Black Ops as well as Starcraft 2 via Bootcamp/Windows 7 with the latest Catalyst drivers. I have the card hooked up using DVI to my 30" ACD running native resolution of 2560x1600, and settings at High to Ultra. The games look beautiful and not a single hiccup, with the fans ramping up just slightly after about 15 minutes in. Very happy so far and definitely a worthy upgrade.

Got mine yesterday took about 15 minutes to install and power up. So far its great running wow with ultra settings is real nice.

Mine still isn't going to show until Friday, so I'm living vicariously through all of you.

Ordered mine yesterday.

ATI RADEON HD 5870 1GB-ZML

Shipped on: Dec 12, 2010 via UPS (FOR CANADA ONLY)

Oddly, the UPS tracking number isn't working with the UPS site. Maybe it will take time to come.

I hope I get it early this week...
