I have no def. answers... but as you all know, Ave. A is just like doubleclick, 24/7, etc... an ad-serving company. Atlas DMT is just their counterpart. They joined forces not too long ago.

The only thing that is really mysterious, and for all your guys that code HTML, is that this tag falls below the copyright. That would indicate that it's position would be at the absolute bottom of the page. The only think this tag could be traffic data. Who knows what the G5 tag is.

If you go look at the other Powerbook pages (12, 15, 17) that tag does not exist.

The site is moving seriously slow....

Just like you.... waiting.....

When you visit the Apple Powerbook page, it hits the Ave A site (to download the invisible GIF) and tells Ave A what the referrer site was, so they can report on ads and sites that are linking to the Powerbook page (they use similar GIFs on some other Apple product pages as well).

They can also see what the browser and platform of each visitor was, for a report on potential Windows switchers (which is what the "switch" might mean, unless it identifies the "switch" banner ad campaign).

I think the "G5" in the link is just sloppy nomenclature on Ave A's part.

Thanks for the info. I was not sure what it ment. I will wait patiently till next tuesday( I am not sure if patient is the correct word though  ). Thanks all for your help on that little matter.

That was a great find on your part, anyway. It got me real excited for a bit, there.

I'd be satisfied with a better graphics card in the 12-in.

Not sure if this is old news...but it was posted on AppleInsider.com

Apple said to ship PowerBook G5 in Q2 2005
By Tony Smith

Expect Apple to ship PowerBook and iBook notebook Macs based on a G5-class PowerPC chip in Q2.
So claim sources close to Taiwan's contract manufacturers, DigiTimes reports.

Tucked away in a discussion about Apple's manufacturing partners are references to an iBook G5 and a PowerBook G5, which will ship in Q2 2005. They will be built by Asustek and Quanta, respectively.
The news will be welcomed by Mac notebook enthusiasts, who have anticipated a G5-based PowerBook since the emergence some 12 months ago of the 90nm PowerPC 970FX from IBM. In the end, the 90nm die-shrink, despite IBM's initial claims proved less notebook-friendly than anyone had anticipated. This stopped Apple from rolling out a PowerBook based on the chip, but it refreshed the XServe G5 and updated Power Mac desktops with the new part.
Apple's then director of Power Mac product marketing, Tom Boger, told customers at the G5 desktop launch not to expect a PowerBook G5 "any time soon [and] certainly not before the end of the year".
Has IBM solved the 970FX's heat dissipation problems, possibly with new chip-making techniques, or has Apple figured out how to keep the chip sufficiently cool to operate efficiently in a notebook? A third possibility exists: DigiTimes has written 'G5' when it should have typed 'G4'.
Certainly, Apple wants to move the PowerBook line to the G5 and will do so as soon as possible. But Freescale's upcoming 90nm G4-class MPC7448 chip has been seen as a more likely candidate than the G5 for the next PowerBook and/or iBook

Here's the link:
Well as first reported on http://www.macbidouille.com (aka hardmac.com) Digitimes says the PW G5 (and the iBook G5!!!) are due to ship in the 2Q 2005!!

Not sure about the reliability of theses 'sources'

and finally:
Here's DigiTimes reply to my email
"Dear Sunil,

Thank you for your email. We believe our sources on this story are reliable. However, because of all the questions raised by readers, we will try and run a follow up story later this week.

Thank you for reading DigiTimes.

sorry but i reckon thats BS. Apple would NOT be happy about this, the fact its still up is proof its wrong.

though i wish it could be right

or possibly with all this info coming from rumor sites and stuff like http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20920 indicate that *something* major is going to happen (but with no date set yet, this Q2 stuff could be fantasy), so much info apple will have to announce[<key word] a PB G5 soon :D

Check the Apple site right now! It's got no ads in the home space! A sign of Powerbook updates to come - TODAY?

what page are you viewing?? apple.com??

Mine has images... this is very interesting

I can't get my image loaded with my post - I have no browse button to add it, though it tells me I can add images. One of my co-workers has images, but I've refreshed from 3 different browsers and I am not getting the ad space on the homepage of Apple.com. This is weird. Maybe I'm channeling the back door to something big, or maybe my internet cache is really screwed up somehow. I'm trying to figure it out.

:(

OK. OK. False alarm. After restarting I got the images to load. Oh yeah, and I had to reset Safari. A weird XML or cache issue I guess. Dangit! I was really hoping for a sudden change to say, here's the new Powerbooks!

that would have been great.

There has got to be some apple employee monitoring this and laughing his @ss off. Us bunch of pathetic PB worshipors.

Can anyone tell me why I can't figure out how to load an image? OK. Let me reword that question - Can anyone tell me why I don't have a BROWSE button as the help page indicates is the way to load an image, yet the forum says I have the right to add images to my posts? Is there a preference pane I'm missing? I really want you guys to see the Apple.com page I saw.

naw... me too.

I would rather have a new revision G4... then a 1st gen G5.

Although as soon as I order the laptop I'm also ordering a 1GB Stick of Ram

... oh and one of those AMAZING Booq Vypers (www.booqbags.com)

Well actually no, there is probably some guy wanting to write a response on how the G4 makes so much more sense for battery life and blah de blah blah and that it is in fact very nearly the same speed as a G5 except a G5 can do 64-bit calculations.

Whatever
I want a G5, it will do the job and it sounds better :D

Sorry. But you really have to see the picture and you'll see why I wanted to post it and find out if anyone else was seeing what I was seeing.

You see, my portable is still the 366mhz iBook Clamshell. I really can't wait for the new Powerbooks. It's just killin' me!

AHA! Thanks to the admin who fixed my attachment problem - if someone did - because I now have the attachment button - check out the pic.

Image too small

ASP272,

Can you send a larger image? After clicking on the thumbnail I still couldn't read it.

Sorry. I sized the image down too far already. Classic designer mistake with the only image available. It would only let me attach a 100kb file and I had to take it to 100dpi to get it that small. It started out as a 300dpi 5X4 image! Oh well. Just look at the pic and realize there is nothing in the middle of the Apple.com page. That was the point anyway.
