OK. Here is a better look at it. I had to crop it significantly to reduce file size and keep readability. I keep my monitor at really high res, so the screen shots run about 4 megs.

I realize why the missing images happened now. The NFL highlights on iTunes ad wasn't on the page before it blanked out. I guess when the change was made at Apple my browsers didn't want to refresh the page with the new content. An interesting bug, BUT STILL NO POWERBOOKS! :(

naw... me too.

I would rather have a new revision G4... then a 1st gen G5.

Although as soon as I order the laptop I'm also ordering a 1GB Stick of Ram

... oh and one of those AMAZING Booq Vypers (www.booqbags.com)
I mean if the next version out is the G5( which I doubt) I will get it, but I would rather not have the frst gen of a the G5. Hopefull the bump to the G4 comes soon

Well, I ordered my Powerbook 15" 1,5 ghz (1-module-512mb, 128 mb graph., 5400 rpm) on the 16th of January. Yesterday the delivery date was next week. Today they changed it to 14th of February.

I'm not surprised. Last time I bought a Powerbook was in summer of 2003 and I had to wait for four months for my first 15 inch Aluminium.

dang you for getting me all excited. Am I the only person who would rather have the last revsion of the PB G4 over the first G5?

I would be happy with a G4 revision as well, because it would mean a faster disk, lower heat, extended battery life, and a solid, stable, proven platform. Of course, I won't be complaining about a G5, but I'll be damned sure to get the AppleCare extension for it.

Either way, I'll take the next revision. I just wish they'd hurry up and get it over with!

Think I'll check the Apple store in the mall and confirm whether they've taken PBs off display tonight.

Good luck with that. I had a feeling that shipping was going to turn into a nightmare, given what's been happening in all the retail stores. I've been sitting on the trigger with an ichy finger also. I just have the feeling, good feeling that is, new PB's (granted they will only be speedbumped g4's) will be ready to go next week.

The only thing I fear is that Apple anticipated having the new PB done by this time, so they don't have any backstock of the old PB. Who knows, they might be a little behind schedule.

Wait. WHAT?! Sounds like the speculation that Steve's search for "love" during the keynote may have had something to it, after all.

You know, he also searched for soccer, a popular sporting event known as "football" to the rest of the world. And the Super Bowl is coming up... and the original Macintosh was announced during the Super Bowl...

Still, for Apple to put a 90nm G5 into a notebook would take a feat of engineering that I'm still not convinced is physically possible. For IBM to have developed a chip that would get the job done would require an entirely new process (possibly a 65nm fab, which is unlikely at best) and unprecedented success at keeping it secret. For there to be a G5 Powerbook at ALL would require ThinkSecret to be flat-out wrong... and with their track record, I wouldn't be betting money on that.

And yet, despite all that, I guess anything's possible.

BTW- Just recently moved to Atlanta, and they have no PB's in stock at he Apple Store in Lenox mall.

The Special Deals section at the Apple Store has the 12, 15 & 17" powerbooks now. So,,,,,, that must mean that something is happening. I thought they always waited until after the new ones were release before they started marking down the old ones. This along with all the other tidbits makes me think that whatever is next is a lot more than just a little speedbump.

Oh ya, I'd jump at a G5 too... any new powerbook for that matter, I have no portable at this moment. But I never like buying 1st gen hardware...

I love the customizer... Make your own bag, real cool...

Only if they sold a backpack form. Just a personal Preference

in a non-combative response: Weren't they wrong about the announcement of the PB's at MWSF?
http://thinksecret.com/news/0501expo5.html

At this point, it's anyone's guess as to when, or what. I can keep saying it's going to be "next tuesday", and at somepoint in time, I'll be right.

here we go, right?

wouldn't it be great to have a surprise PB/ibook G5 commercial show up during the Super Bowl?

Could start off talking about the new stuff they unveiled at Macworld, talking about how they brought us the Mac Mini, and the iPod Shuffle.

"But we didn't mention this:"

And unveil the new Powerbooks and iBooks...that would make for a good Super Bowl for me! :D

I think those are just reconditioned PB's. I could be wrong though.

That's the only reason I'm going to watch it. :p Apple... don't disappoint me.

Well, I would posit that being wrong about the date of announcement is a far cry from being wrong about the product being announced. They got the Mac Mini and the Shuffle right, after all. Of course, maybe Apple's lawsuits have scared away their informants. If I liked wearing tinfoil hats, I might even suggest that the Think Secret suit could be a public smokescreen and TS is even in on it. But I don't really believe that.

Like I said, either way I'm buying the next rev, but in the meantime it's fun to speculate.

Apple will NOT do a superbowl ad that has anything to do with a PB. A PB is the last Mac a switcher would think about buying.

I think its logical for Apple to advertise the Mac in general, but the chances of that actually happening are slim.

I'll still watch the game, but I'm not going to be expecting any Apple commercial except for MAYBE an iPod one, or another Pepsi/iTunes commercial like last time (hopefully this time its a little more exciting) ;)

Good point. When it comes to utilizing the full power of Super Bowl advertising's broad reach, the Mac Mini would make a lot more sense, and it's already been announced.

On the other hand, laptops are the only still-expanding market...

(For the record, I am not expecting a PowerBook ad at the Super Bowl.) I don't think that the Super Bowl ads that Apple would consider would be targeting at the switcher market, necessarily. The "wow" factor of something sleek and impressive could certainly steal the show (something like the V3 Razr did for cell phones), and anyway we often see things in commercials we don't intend to buy. The recognition of achievement or innovative design would be enough to get people talking, and I think that's what Super Bowl ads from product retailers are going for (either that or humor).

It would be a tremendously successful campaign if they've got something stellar to unveil...

Ads are not only for switchers

Like most people know, a Mac has already appeared on a SuperBowl ad in the past, and I do remember seeing PowerBook commercials all over the place, especially when the 12" and 17" models appeared a while back.
Ads aren't just meant to be seen by switchers by the way. And for someone who said that the Mac mini was more likely to appear in an ad because it has higher demand, well that leaves the question: What are advertisements intended to do? Sell a product that already has a high demand like the iPod shuffle or the Mac mini and that Apple is having trouble supplying, or... sell a product with a major update that has been forgotten for the past 2 years? Yeah, I know the mini and shuffle are consumer-oriented and the PBG4 was for the pros, but hey, supposedly everyone sees the SuperBowl.

So if there was no PowerBook SuperBowl ad it would be because there is no PowerBook to sell :( not because it is not oriented to switchers.

I was fairly sure that Apple was not listed in the advertiser list for the Super Bowl. Does anyone have other information?

That's what I've heard too, I was just speculating and trying to make my point about how any PowerBook Ad would be for everyone and not just for switchers, and could appear in a major event like the SuperBowl. But it's highly unlikely because Apple wouldn't spend that much money on promoting a speedbumped G4, and as most say G5 PowerBooks are most likely not due until the second half of 2005. But none of us really know anything certain for that matter.

But we're all crossing our fingers, aren't we? :p

I just convinced my boss to pay for half the cost of a PBG4, and then the shipping estimates jump and new PB rumors are abound. sigh, oh well. My patience is thin and the Apple store at the local mall has 15" SD models in stock. Even if new ones are released next tuesday, mine will still be as good as it will be when I go pick it up.

I stopped by Austin's Apple store tonight. Contrary to rumor, the powerbooks have not been taken off display, at least not here. They are, however, out of stock. Employees say they expect to have them back in stock next week.

I noticed that the Mac mini has the 4x SD again... I wonder if they will have an 8x SD avaliable for the Powerbook update? Who knows  .Hopefully I will be purchasing a powerbook Tuesday(The money is burning a hole in my pocket :) ). Take care all
