I love Apple and I'm desperate for OS X, but time is running short and the screen, hard drive, battery life, and feature set are all better on the dv1000 series. What has kept me from buying it is my undying love for Apple (and the fact that the HP has integrated graphics, which sort of negates the processor/system performance advantage of the P-M). It's no PowerBook, but it'll fit the bill, for a lower bill. Please Apple, update soon so you can have my money! I don't care about the processor if the other features are improved (backlit keyboard on all models, more standard RAM, new video hardware, better LCD panel, maybe an iTunes without boot feature [the HP can play DVDs and music without booting into Windows at all, which is pretty rad]).
Those HP notebooks look very nice. A friend just got one this weekend and I can definitely say that it's the only laptop that has actually caught my attention that is not a Mac. He got one with a Centrino 1.5 Ghz, 512 RAM, DVD-RW drive, 64 Video RAM, 80 GB HD, and a great 14.x inch widescreen display. What I didn't like: Windows of course. But it kind of makes you wonder why Apple hasn't put all these features standard on a cheap 'Book. The "high-end" iBook G4 for $1499 has the closest features for the price, except for the cool widescreen LCD, 20 GB less drive space, and the hardly useful HP remote control. But the HP costs only $1399, so then again it would lead most consumers to the HP if they were comparing them head-on. If only they ran OS X....
Good thing that there's still some of us who prefer a Mac anyway. I hope Apple hurries, because this waiting game is getting old...
