The PA32QCV is, as of this morning, on the BestBuy site as well. Currently showing as "Sold Out", but I am assuming that will be changed once they actually have stock (or allow preorders).

I don't want to violate any rules by posting a direct link, but I will point out that searching for "proart 6k" will NOT bring it up right now. Go figure. Instead, I would suggest searching by the SKU number, which is 6641137.

Interestingly, BestBuy is currently showing a $1299 price (we'll see if that remains once it can actually be purchased/pre-ordered).

Yeah. Glossy is the only way. Matte defeats the whole purpose of 5k (particularly for text clarity), you might as well get 4k and save some money.

I’ve been flip floping about this for a couple of years now. Will just go with whatever apple releases next year.

I don't mind matte.
I was looking at monitors this morning at my local Microcenter, and the glossy monitors were basically mirrors.

Yes, in retail lighting in a store, its a worse case scenario but for my home office, and the way the lighting is, I can see this being a problem for me.

I understand the glossy monitors are good for some people, but for my experience, that's not been the case

Have you ever owned a glossy monitor yourself? It sounds a bit like you don't have any experience with them? Then it's definitely better to use a matte monitor and live with it.

Funny, I came from glossy-only monitors and now have the Proart 6K on my desk. The matte looks awesome for text.
I am not claiming anything else, nor does the YouTube video linked above. Of course, the 6K Proart is great to work with. However, if you want maximum image quality, there is still no way around a glossy screen as things stand today. The arguments for this are the same in every test—I didn't invent them!

I have the iMac 5K but I am currently using an M4 Mac mini with a 163 ppi matte screen. The text is less clear not surprisingly, but I’m looking forward to trying out a ~220 ppi matte screen.

BTW, despite knowing I may get a 6K monitor soon, I specifically chose the M4 with HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4, and DisplayPort 1.4 over the M4 Pro with HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 5, and DisplayPort 2.1. Hopefully I didn’t make the wrong decision. DisplayPort 1.4 and Thunderbolt 4 should work fine for 6K, and in fact I believe the Asus 6K only supports DisplayPort 1.4 not DisplayPort 2.1, but I plan on using HDMI 2.1 anyway to free up a Thunderbolt 4 port.

All this stuff should support HDCP 2.2. I know the Asus 6K also supports HDCP 2.3, but I don’t know what other monitors or if the M4 Mac mini supports HDCP 2.3.

I am the same as you re monitors. As well as being awesome for text I find the Proart 6K also much more restful for my eyes. The matte is a bit different for video/movies/photos with it being hard to say which is better - this is probably a matter of taste as much as anything.

Hard disagree. A bit more sharpness and contrast sure, but the advantage is gone fast when there's ambient light or reflections. I don't need to see my face or room in my monitor. And let's face the facts there, most professional reference monitors, they're matte or at best semi-gloss, no? So it’s not really accurate to say you need a glossy screen for the "maximum image quality", other factors are at play and taste can be decisive too.

Yes, that used to be the case because people thought that there was no other way to control reflections. However, this does not change the fact that matting reduces image quality, and yes, unfortunately, this is also a fact! If you have a workplace where reflections do not have a negative impact on the display, you will get the best possible image quality with a glossy screen.

If your theory were even remotely true, Apple in particular would have had to release every device they have produced to date with a matte screen. However, to Apple's credit, they do offer a matte version of their displays for users who have a problematic display location, even if this means losing some of the brilliance.

Let's not overstate things. There's no disagreement that matte coatings diffuse light a bit, but the loss in sharpness or contrast is really minimal and often invisible in real use. The fact is that Apple’s glossy screens are also a design choice, not proof that gloss is superior. As I mentioned, plenty of pro brands offer a matte option for pro users. As you admit, Apple does too, and that's not because they want to offer an inferior version. Pretty sure Apple knows reflections can ruin perceived contrast and color accuracy in environments.

So in perfect lighting, sure, glossy looks great, no disagreement there. I've appreciated the look for years. In most real environments, there are disadvantages. So in the end it’s not about "facts" versus "opinions", it’s about what works best for you and your working space. And the matte coating on the Proart is really nice.

Multiple monitors with the new AU Optronics 31.5" 10-bit 6K IPS panel have launched or will launch soon. Most monitor reviews are sponsored, but RTINGS does excellent, independent testing and review of monitors. Consider to vote for the ASUS ProArt PA32QCV if you would also like a review of this new 6K IPS panel.
