If I buy a gold 5S just because it has a gold steel ring around the touch ID sensor and it makes sense to me over buying the same old boring black (which I have had for years) then i will - Simple.

Just out of curiosity, what color did you buy?

White/Silver.

I could have had gold, and almost did choose it as I was slightlly riding all the hype around it; but when it came time to put the money down, I stuck with the clean, pristine white/silver that I originally wanted.

At least we both got one. I feel sorry for the people who are getting sidestepped by resellers.

My wife had the white 4S and i did not like it at all, but for some reason this gold option looks much better than earlier case leaks.

What capacity did you go for?

32gb space gray and 16gb gold

The 32gb space gray will arrive at my front door today and the 16gb gold just says it will ship in October?

I see girly in all the 5s colors. I also see some manly in all the colors.

I'd advise you to get a blue 5c. It's the only color certified to be completely manly. In fact, there are rumors that Apple will stop selling the blue 5c to girls.
 
Me too. I ordered 1 gold and 1 silver from Apple on launch date. My buddy wanted the gold, and I wanted the silver. When the phones arrived on Wednesday and saw his gold 5s, I feel regret for getting the silver. The gold is a lot more subtle than the online pictures. I went to my local Apple store to see if I can exchange it for the gold. Of course, it's out of stock. But I spent more than 15 minutes comparing the gray, silver, and gold. The gold is nice, and the dual tone on the back is also nice, but I'm not a big fan of the gold ring on the Touch ID. It's not as shinny as the silver ring :D And like you said, the silver/white looks cleaner so I went home and activate my silver/white phone. I'm happy with my purchase.

Space Grey - mostly because of the dark front though.
If either the Silver or Gold had paired with black instead of white, it wouldn't have made a difference to me which phone I got.
 
I ordered the space grey. The main reason is because I always liked the white phones, but after having a white IP5 and a white GSIII, I figured why not mix things up. I almost still bought the white/silver, however. haha

I also bought the space grey because the vast majority of the professionals I see at work have black IP5s. Though I like to be different, I'd still like it to blend in with the professional folk on the off chance I get judged. Is it a ridiculous thought? Yes. However, as judgemental as people are in today's time, it wouldn't surprise me and if it made the slightest difference in the potential for another promotion, I'd rather not take the risk.

I agree that the gold ring is a nice touch. I wish the space grey had a space gray or silver ring around the touch sensor, but it's not a make or break feature. I bought the space grey, since I knew I was going to pout a cover on it and make the phone look all black.
 
I will probably get the gold (just can't decide between 32 or 64)... I gotta get an unlocked version because I live in Europe and come back to the states a few times a year.

Also, the Gold will match my gold Gillette Fusion pro glide razor hahaha ;-)
 
I bought a 32gb silver. contemplating if I should exchange it for a gold. I haven't seen a gold in person because the nearest apple store is 300 miles away but I keep getting seduced by the hype :\

(but I do adore the classic silver mac colors and prefer to match to my rMBP)
