This is a good point. I’ve had iPhones since 2009, and when I saw the price and non-innovative features of the X, coupled with no 128gb option therefore making the 1150 price the only real option for me, and now the charger thing I’m just thinking they are REALLY taking their loyal customers for granted now. For this first time ever I’m tempted to go for a Note or something
I don't think you are alone with that.

When the price is out on contract for the iphone x that will say alot

Both 5W & 12W chargers actually cost the same, 19£ in your case (the U.K.). So the only obvious reason not to include a 12W one would not be the price, but probably the iPhone box size & weight, as the 12W charger is bigger.
Come off it. We all know they just want to sell us a charger and/or the AirPower mat.

As time goes by and see what Apple does (or doesn't do), the more that idea is cemented into my brain.

Apple has changed from making insanely great products which turn a profit, focusing how to maintain or increase profits and making design decisions based on profitability.

Being as large as they are it would be hard to post growth earnings every quarter without petty nickle and diming every chance possible and nonsense like making the British pound 1:1 with the American dollar.

It is getting old. Seems like the last couple of years it’s gotten really disgusting and flagrant.

The new iPhone X can’t even connect to the new Mac without a dongle. C’mon, really?

Yup. And the crazy thing is, they won’t include a lightning to USB C cable either. For the cost of about £3 lol

If I was to buy a USB-C to Lightening cable. Could I use the charger that came with my 2016 MacBook Pro?

That's rated at 87W!

[EDITED]

Yes, you can, because it uses the same USB-C PD technology.

I thought they did highlight it? At least it was a bullet point in their presentation. I think I remember they talked about it too.

But you are right, the average consumer will have no idea about it.

No they actually didn't highlight it. And the language used on their website, "fast charge capable", seems to imply that's it's just an additional functionality that is available - but they don't explicitly mention what you need to buy to take advantage of it.

Man. That's annoying. Considering my iMac is just regular USB and the MacBook is USB-C I was building up a set of home cables - regular USB and travel cables - USB-C cables. I was hoping I wouldn't need to take an extra charger with me when I travel and just use the MBP block.

Sounds like it won't work though which is annoying.

Yup. You are right I mixed wireless charging with fast-charge capable. Now the whole thing feels a little bit better.

With the wireless charging, I can kind of understand not supplying a wireless mat, but they already ship a charger and it makes no sense not to take advantage of a nice new feature like fast charge, especially as all the competition do give you one!

Oh, and shouldn’t it also say “wireless charging CAPABLE” since they don’t ship a wireless charger???

Problem is people will still buy it.

If hardly anyone bought the X then they’d have to take action.

This is the first launch I’m totally underwhelmed with to be honest and really on the fence about whether to actually buy it or not.

It’s so much money for a phone

My Galaxy s8 came with fast charger and usb-c to micro USB adapter and usb-c to micro SD reader adapter.

Looking at the iPhone X specs page, it’s says you only get a crappy 5w charger in the box for your £1000 or £1150. Really Apple?? You promote fast charging and then have the absolute cheek to include a 5w charger like all other iPhones, even the 12w charger would have been something and probably cost about £2 extra.
That’s poor Apple. Very poor indeed. Leaves a sour taste for me

Look on the bright side, slower charging is supposed to actually be better for the long term life of a battery.

How about when Apple only sold wireless mouse and keyboard seperate on the iMac?

Steve was around then.

How about when Apple only offered the white iPhone in the highest capacity?

Steve was around then.

How about when Apple got rid of the Disc Drive on the Macbook Air and sold it as a seperate accessory?

Steve was around then.

How about when they withheld te Super Drive to only the most expensive iMac model?

Steve was around then.

How about when Garageband was released, but about 50% of it was hidden behind a pay wall?

Steve was around then.

How about when Apple promised the white iPhone 4 was just around the corner, and then eventually arriving 8 months late?

Steve was around then.

Point is, Steve was great, but Apple was still a non-perfect buisness under his watch.

It's not even that it's non-perfect, it's a business. Period. They will use approaches that allow them to maximize profits as long as they can get away with it.

For those of us who don't spend extra money on chargers and only use the one apple gives us, what kind of difference does it make?

Here is a picture of the original iPhone packaging..... Note the cradle :)

They shouldn’t include any charger with the phone IMO. Everyone and their grandma has a charger at home somehwere, I have a drawer full of iPhone bricks ranging from 5w to 12w. How many chargers does one need?

I mean talk about wasting earths resources.
What? If you're worried about wasting earth's resources, maybe you shouldn't be getting a new iPhone every year (or at least as often as you do seeing as how you have a drawer full of chargers that came with your devices).

You'd be screwing the people who just switched to the iPhone, or those who only upgrade every few years who's chargers are nearly broken.

What??? That’s ridiculous. They expect us to pay over £1000 for this thing lol
So? Take the charger away and they’d probably only charge 1£ less if at all. They barely cost anything to make but the impact in terms of waste is much larger. For a ‘green’ company they sure didn’t think this through enough.

Ar the very least provide the option to choose the type of charger (none, 5/10/12w or wireless).

If it’s broken you can get a new one from almost anywhere, at pretty much any cost. Surely if you can afford a 1000$ phone a charger would be the least of your problems.

USB chargers are so commonplace it’s really a non issue.

If you can't afford the charger then you can't afford the phone.

Not really a surprise when you consider they make you pay extra to get a proper charger for the quick charge capable iPad Pros.
The chargers supplied with them are IMO barely adequate in terms of charging times.
