I loaded beta 6.1 on Friday. So far it seems to be noticeably better. I'll have a much better idea after I do some monitored workouts today.

I'm tempted with 6.1 beta, but was trying to get off the beta bandwagon for a bit. Also it is a beta 1 so how stable is it for those that have used it?

I am getting about 24 hours on 6.0 atm with AOD on for a few hours but not all the time.

It has been better for me, but I am having strange issues around charging in general. I put it on my charger overnight and it only charged to 85%, the other day I woke up twice and it was stuck at 97%. Only once have I woken up with it charged to 100%. I hope that the issues are resolved as it's becoming quite annoying.

Tremendous. Yesterday was a light day and to the watch off the charger at 8am and at midnight it was at 50%.

Do you think 6.1 can give you 50% remaining after 24 hours? If the 5 can beat the 4 I am in a return window. Also, I’ve seen comments regarding screen brightness of the 5 vs 4. Overblown?
A number of folks reported poor S4 battery life on WatchOS6.0
Mine has been the same. 50% loss per 24 hours.

Not right now, no.

Mine look the same but others seem to think otherwise.

I put my S5 and S4 into flashlight mode and measured the exposure value.

Same.

If there's any brightness difference in practice it'll be software based most likely.

Also possible some are comparing aluminum/glass S4's to stainless/sapphire S5's and seeing the glass vs sapphire brightness difference for the first time.

I sold my S4 but have not noted anything appreciable re: brightness. As for battery, 6.1b1 is very satisfying and no discernible difference from my watchOS 5/S4 combo. I have AOD and the noise monitoring feature enabled as well as cellular. Yesterday was comprised of around 750 calories burned just wandering/walking/shopping and a quick 20minute indoor bike spin (phone not linked, transmitting audio over LTE and connected to my powerbeats pro). I also drove 3 hours with turn by turn with the directional taps going and then just standard notifications. Again, 47% when I placed it on the charger at midnight or so.

A few days earlier, I did a 7 mile outdoor run with GPS, music streaming over LTE to my PowerBeats, sunny bright day so when i checked my stats the screen was pumping brightness, and then went to work and did my usual and I still had some (limited) battery to spare after 7am to 1:30am or so.

You're killing me - I've never had a major issue with an iOS/Apple software rollout before, but this WatchOS 6 is just brutal. Making me really want to try the beta...

Just remember that's a one-way street. No way to downgrade from a WatchOS beta without sending to Apple or getting special equipment.

Also I don't know if Apple store folks check software revision before taking a return either, so tread carefully.

Pulling the trigger.

AW5 AOD on all day 7 ½ hours standby, 1 ½ workouts and down to 60%. Good, but going to see if 6.1 beta is any better :)

Not sure on returns, but when I traded in my AW3 in the store it was on a watchOS beta and there were no issues

I’m mostly sharing so people know and are aware it’s not hardware or AOD related and it’s not Apple misleading people with battery claims. It’ll be public release soon enough. I love the watch enough that it was worth experimenting (esp within my return period but I also have AC)

Absolutely. I've owned a Series 5 for ~3 days and just been crushed by the battery. This morning I did ~7 miles in 40 min (LTE was accidentally on for the first 11 minutes) and lost 47% battery. I sold my Garmin specifically so I could use AW as my running watch... but not with that performance!

It'll get there. Check out the WatchOS 5.0.1 and 4.0.1 update release dates. 5.0.1 came out 10 days after 5.0 (Sep 27), and 4.0.1 came out 15 days after 4.0 (Oct 4). Then 5.1 came out on Oct 31 2018 and 4.1 came out on Oct 31 2017. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WatchOS#watchOS_4.x

I pretty much fully transitioned to Apple for my running a year or so ago. I just don't need all the Garmin data anymore. In general a full day's usage including an hour's outdoor run without the phone is commonplace and what we're seeing is an anomaly.

You're a lot faster than me though, 40 minutes gets me a bit over 4 miles. LOL

So we may see 6.01 if it exists this week seeing that OS6 was released 11 days ago. Fingers crossed.

with the update that run should drain 25%. You won’t be getting Garmin levels regardless but the watch never
Has been able to. What you should expect is that run plus regular use with battery to spare at bedtime.

+1 on getting much better battery life with 6.1. I am a heavy user (tons of notifications) and I used to be at maybe 10-15% at the end of the day. Now it's closer to 30-40. Usage may vary. S4 LTE here.
