What would be the usefulness of a removable cable? I'm puzzled, as I have 2 HomePods and don't really see a use for removing the cable.

Spot on. It's just a cudgel... something, anything, to bash Apple about.

Guess I should be similarly steamed and outraged that my toaster doesn't have a removable power cord.

I'd like to get some and be able to get rid of my Alexa devices. However, to me, Alexa simply has far more options and usefulness.

I wish they weren’t permanently attached to that power cable.

This. I would've bought one of these things a long time ago if it had a battery. Shipping it with a base for wireless charging seems like a no-brainer.

How about fixing the software before releasing new versions. Mine are quite fond of skipping songs every 10 seconds.

The one feature I'd like to see in the HomePod Mini 2 is the one that is not mentioned, and almost sure not to be included: and ethernet port, to plug directly into a gateway, like the Apple TV. My Home network got much more stable when I switched from the HomePod to the Apple TV 4K as a hub.

Even lesser microphones, speakers and older wifi gen and leftover batches of A-chips. Price increase 15%.
The HP minis are not even bought at their current price. I doubt that new and more expensive versions will sell better.

The normal HomePod isn't a big success either.🎊

But everyone who buys HomePods should be happy that the majority don't want one, that's why you have these “cheap” prices.🤷🏻‍♂️

If Apple brings back the black color (midnight is cute but not black) and makes them usable for FaceTime calls with a Mac mini with no latency, it will be an instant purchase for me

I've been debating whether to pick up two Minis or two 2nd gen full-sized for our new house -- purely for home theater audio. I use a single 1st gen HP in one room and it sounds great, but it took a while to get used to it sitting to the side of my TV, so I definitely want a stereo pair. I'll just wait to see what the updated Minis have to offer before deciding.

Sorry, Apple... you had a real chance in the music and speaker space but handled it so poorly that I'm never spending a dime on your audio junk again.

I sold all of my Gen 1s. Siri is just worthless and it's not even 10% as useful as an Amazon Dot Echo or non-Apple assistant. Audio quality is decent though.

Maybe if they were more portable you wouldn't need seven of them.

No... that wouldn't help me at all. As an aside.. if I needed to move one of my HomePods, I'd simply unplug it, carry it to another room, and plug it back in. Not a difficult task.

I am happy with my HomePods and HomePod minis. I just wish I could use the minis and surround sound speakers and Apple makes a subwoofer. As all tv+ movies and shows have surround sound, this is a slam dunk to get more people buying its speakers and keeping people in the ecosystem.

It makes zero sense for Apple to release an update to a mediocre speaker with stupid Siri at this point.

This update will be released alongside the new HomePod Touch once the smarter Siri is available.

Erm…no, you plug it back in?
And that's what we're trying to say: it's permanently tethered. I guess for some people that's fine. I think two of them would be great on our deck in the summer -- except there are no electrical outlets out there. Even moving the minis from room to room requires first fishing for the cord and then plugging it back in somewhere else. If it had a battery (and I have two other wireless speakers about the size of the minis that do -- and that last up to 30 hours), then I could just carry it to wherever I needed it. But I guess if the mini is aimed to be part of a smart home system (rather than just a Bluetooth speaker) then it sort of makes sense that it would need to be continually plugged in.

Do they work with the cord removed?
No. If you've removed the cable from a HomePod mini, you now have a slightly oversized, oddly-weighted tennis ball.

No HomePod power cable is OFFICIALLY removable. But with care and a bit of effort, it is possible on both the 1st and 2nd generation full size HomePod.

The power cord of the HomePod mini is NOT removable.
