I know you have all thought about it. What I am wondering is has anyone figured it out yet?!?! I am dieing to get my hands on it!

The iPhone developer site is "down for updates" (durrr I wonder why), but as soon as it's back up I'm definitely going to try out the 3.0 beta if it's available and not just the SDK.

Both the SDK and the beta are available to existing or new members into the iPhone Developer Program.

From Apple's website.

The iPhone Developer Program provides a complete process for developing and distributing applications for iPhone and iPod touch. When you join the iPhone Developer Program, you also receive access to the new iPhone SDK and iPhone OS 3.0 beta - so you can prepare your applications for the next generation of iPhone OS.

I am in the developer program and just downloaded the 3.0 beta.

The Preinstallation Advisory says I will *not* be able to go back to 2.2.

Oh well, here goes on the install!

Are you allowed to post some screenies that weren't in the keynote today?

Apple says:

iPhone OS 3.0 beta software release - Pre-Installation

Interesting...So the 3.0 software is available. I wonder if it will get leaked. :D

I had to refresh like 200 times just to log in. And then maybe another 50 to get to the download link. But once I started downloading, I got 2.8MB/sec down.. :)

How big is the download and does it have a separate link just for the iPhone firmware?

will i be able to upgrade to the regular release of 3.0 when its released if i buy the sdk and dev 3.0 software? i wouldnt want to be stuck with it. its my only phone.

.dmg is 240,262,655 bytes.
.ipsw is 240,252,443 bytes.

And the download is authenticated, no direct link without IDC account.

I'm a paid iDP member but I can't get beyond the "Service Unavailable" message. I'm mainly interested because I have a very slow internet connection too.

Thanks for the info - it's interesting that the SDK is much smaller now. I remember when I started it was close to 2GB in size.
