Beta of the SDK I believe, not the OS.

Beta today if you're a registered developer, if not "Summer."

The iPhone developer site is "down for updates" (durrr I wonder why), but as soon as it's back up I'm definitely going to try out the 3.0 beta if it's available and not just the SDK.

I wonder if people will pay $99 just to get the beta?

You can't. Unless of course you are willing to pay out the $99/$299 SDK price for a beta.

You need the new SDK released today in order to get beta 3.0.

Both the SDK and the beta are available to existing or new members into the iPhone Developer Program.

    From Apple's website.

    Join the iPhone Developer Program
The iPhone Developer Program provides a complete process for developing and distributing applications for iPhone and iPod touch. When you join the iPhone Developer Program, you also receive access to the new iPhone SDK and iPhone OS 3.0 beta - so you can prepare your applications for the next generation of iPhone OS.

I am in the developer program and just downloaded the 3.0 beta.

The Preinstallation Advisory says I will *not* be able to go back to 2.2.

Oh well, here goes on the install!

The dev site is so slammed. I was planning on joining anyhow so I'll pay the $99 but I can't! It just says HTTP service not available.

I had to refresh like 200 times just to log in. And then maybe another 50 to get to the download link. But once I started downloading, I got 2.8MB/sec down.. :)

    .dmg is 240,262,655 bytes.
    .ipsw is 240,252,443 bytes.

And the download is authenticated, no direct link without IDC account.

I'm a paid iDP member but I can't get beyond the "Service Unavailable" message. I'm mainly interested because I have a very slow internet connection too.

Thanks for the info - it's interesting that the SDK is much smaller now. I remember when I started it was close to 2GB in size.
