I doubt AT&T enabled there MMS on there end yet.. Maybe just the handset's at the media event but that's it.. They probably don't even know if they want to charge for it yet...

I don't think they'll charge extra for MMS; they don't on any other phone. An MMS message is treated the same an SMS message as far as text credits go. If you have an unlimited text plan, you should be able to send unlimited SMS, MMS, video, etc. AT&T would be foolish to charge extra exclusively for iPhone users.

That would make sense. I have unlimited texting across my family plan. One of the members on the plan has a random Samsung flip that can do any MMS function at an unlimited rate. So I'm sure it won't charge anymore, it's just a matter of AT&T enabling the thing.

Wow. I can't believe they aren't going to allow MMS on the first gen. iPhone. It is most definitely not a hardware issue. I plan on upgrading to the 99 used 3g soon because I am so sick of Edge and my first gen is pretty beat up, but Apple is really spitting the face of those who bought this gadget when it first came out for almost 500 dollars!

Come on now, technology advances. While the reasons for MMS not being on the 2G iPhone are probably totally due to them wanting to garner sales from the iPhone 3G, it is not at all a "spit in the face." You got a $100 credit if you bought that $500 phone. If anything Apple has been generous in providing substantial free updates to iPhones at no cost to the end user. MMS and stereo BT are only two options you're missing out on, out of many new updates. That isn't a bad trade off if you still want to keep your old phone.

You only got the $100 credit if you bought your first generation iPhone shortly before they released the new version. I bought my first gen the first week it came out. MMS is a substantial feature to be missing - as it is probably the feature I would've used the most out of the new ones, aside from push. I really don't care to be able to search within an app or from the homescreen or that I can buy things within a game now because I don't use the iPhone for gaming. Landscape is nice but I was never somebody who said "grr I need landscape in text!" because my thumbs aren't oversized thankfully ; )

you do realize that summer for apple means the day that happens right before the first day of fall, right? ;)

Haha! That sucks to be you. They actually did give out $100 credits to early adopters. They were the ONLY ones to get the credit. I know, because I got my credit and I bought my iPhone on June 29, 2007. I used it to help buy my MBP last March. Here is the link: http://www.apple.com/hotnews/openiphoneletter/. People who bought their iPhone within a couple weeks of the new one being announced were able to return their iPhone for the 3g version. That is where you are confused. Apple has been more than accommodating. Its not their fault that you weren't paying attention.

Well hopefully they don't charge because we pay enough for the plans and internet.. But to AT&T they think in $$$$$.. So if they charged 4.95 extra just think of all that money they would make.. There are a lot of iphone out there and that is a good chunk of change...

Mount the .dmg.

In iTunes, option-click the Restore button.

Navigate to the mounted .dmg and choose the .ipsw.

There is no point in using the 3.0 version for anything other than development, because thats what it is meant for. Seen a few posts already of people who are so desperate to get 3.0 that they rushed into it and ended up bricking their device.
