No. Engadget, Gizmodo and everyone else got the same letter that Macrumors got from Apple.

Macrumors tends to bow down to Apple-- the other guys aren't bullied away.
I sometimes wonder if Macrumors isn't a loosely affiliated Apple site- getting tidbits here and there straight from the top at Apple, in return for publicizing well planned Apple leaks (coming straight from Apple, of course).

It is very similar to celebrities and tabloids/paprazzi. Each scratches the other's back. Paris Hilton secretly tells Us magazine she will be at some club tonight- to make sure they are there with cameras. She gets the press, they get the pictures/advertising. Same thing with rumor sites.

Hmm... I agree. I think there might be a conspiracy between Apple and rumor sites, particularly MR and AI, the more reliable of the bunch. Apple feeds them the news they want leaked. TS doesn't have this feed, and randomly guesses, and usually misses.

i think thats fake.. apple will come with a new redisigned ipod for sure , after the iphone they just CANT come with just a new interface.. wait guys, good news are coming.. very sooon... :D:apple:

I'm not so sure the 6G ipod will have fully redesigned look, the ipod has been the same look for years... okay, the controls have been redesigned some times, but the actual look has stayed the same.

I am still convinced that the nano will be the last link into what the original iPod looked like and that the full size iPod will be full touch screen. this would also help the iPhone because people of the masses would start to see how wonderful multitouch really is.

So I think that the nano would be a dedicated music player and that the full ipod will be multitouch so apple can add new features and applications to it and the ipod will really be radically different.

I do recall Steve Jobs telling us that the ipod video that the video was just there for an added bonus and did not think that this was a video player and i think this next version will be.

I've done it in 20 minutes. If I had more time... ;)

Has anybody considered that this is merely a 3G iPod nano interface. This would make sense since the nano will certainly have the wheel and the full size will be the touch screen. This would make perfect sense.

Any Thoughts??

YEP!! That's exactly what I was thinking. Would it make sense to replace the controls on an iPod Shuffle with Multi-touch?? NO WAY. So there is a size usability threshold where multi-touch is worse, not better. I still think the iPod Nano fits into the click-wheel arena...at least for now.

It has to be something major if arn gets a phone-call at 3 AM to have the post taken off.
I just don't see how apple can continue to keep this screen size even after releasing their movie downloading service via iTunes. It just makes sense once you sell movies to start selling devices targeted more directly at viewing the very movies you sell.
It's hard to imagine a small form factor change and a software update to satisfy a 300 day wait for the new iPod. Apple is too innovative to let this stale technology hang around while competitors begin to catch up.
Having the iPod become similar to the iPhone may or may not interfere with eachother's sales, but it is far better to have two great products out there from the same company then just make a worse product to try not to injure the other. It doesn't really matter if the iPod takes away from the iPhone, they are both from the same company. You either sell a lot more iPhones or you sell a lot more iPods. What's the difference? Neither is going to fail.

I don't know, I would just be really disappointed if Apple was using this for the main iPod. I hope it's for the nano.

Removed due to request from Apple legal? Does this bode well that those were accurate depictions then?

The video has been posted on YouTube. Just google '6g ipod interface'

I'm slightly dissapointed to be honest. I'm ready to blow €600 on a new ipod - but need a substantial upgrade to my 5g 60gb model. I do like to keep all my albums in one place, and I've already filled the 60gb capacity.

I have resisted buying the 80gb version as I know in my heart the extra space isn't enough and within 12 months it will be filled.

So idealy I'd would like a 100gb model, with a lot of the touch screen cool features of the iPhone - but it looks like I'm out of luck.

No touch screen, makes me  but I'd probably still buy if the bump the HDD capacity. But if its all flash nand memory they plan on using, then I am seriously out of luck, and the new iPod will probably be the first generation of
ipods I skip.

I think the same goes for me, I would like a touch screen ipod, but i dont care about mail, safari or any of that since o juat bought an iphone. My problem is the same as urs ive got a 60gig ipod with 70gigs of music and it is only growing. Hopefully we will see a hd jump of 40gig and 100gig

I think, that it's a real prototype version that apple made in January, and it leaked from apple. And now they have made a more sophisticated version with more features, but i still think that apple's next ipod will be without toutchscreen, serious, why do we need a toutchscreen? a ipod is only for music and video, the rest like internet is for the iphone. and for music and video we don't need a toutchscreen. the clickweel is very good invention for easy music and video scrolling.

I think the specs of the new ipod 6G are:

60GB or 120GB version with fm radio.

I know that there's no need for multitouch when it comes to video and music. But, I think that the clickweel will just eat up space estate that could be used for screen, unless you want something that looks like a zune :( . A solution would definitely involve a virtual clickwheel. Regardless, I wish people could have the same experience I have watching videos on my iPhone through their iPods.

(turns on iPhone and starts watching HEROES):):):)

I really hope the next iPod is a full screen true video iPod.
I also really think that bluetooth would be a great addition to the iPod. That way, you could use the iPod as an external media storage and save space on your computer. It also makes wireless headphones and sharing between iPods possible.
Although I would love to see WiFi, I just don't think Apple is ready to put that out there.
Although having more access for spontaneous iTunes store purchases is quite lucrative.

I having been waiting forever for the new iPod, I hope this next update's greatness is proportional to the time between the last update.

I like the fact the story was re-added to the front page with a statement of what happened. To me this means MacRumors got a scoop worth sicking the lawyers on. Good for reporters, bad for Apple security. I for one think it was a prototype unit and the "imperfections" were quite intentional to allow Apple to determine the general source of the leak.

Rocketman

Someone posted a video using the removed clips on YouTube-any way to contact Apple legal, Arn?
Link to the video to report to Apple's legal department:youtube.com/watch?v=LpYWvKXJgC4

Is there any way to contact Apple legal? There is a video on YouTube which used the clips that were removed.

I'm sure Apple doesn't like some kind of information being posted.
