I also really think that bluetooth would be a great addition to the iPod. That way, you could use the iPod as an external media storage and save space on your computer. It also makes wireless headphones and sharing between iPods possible.

I don't see why you would need bluetooth to backup files to your iPod. You can do it already with USB 2.0 which is more reliable (no paring), more secure (wired is always more secure than wireless), and way faster.

You have to be careful what you add to a product. Once you add in a feature it becomes very hard to take away. Remember when Apple dropped Firewire? There was a $#itstorm beyond belief of which I'm still a little miffed about to this day myself.

You also have to consider how to gain back the battery life lost by adding yet another chip to the circuit board.

I don't see a major use for wifi. Its not like it has Safari built into it or something. Again, you have to make up for lost battery life from adding another chip to the circuit board. You also have to try and keep costs down as well. The more you add do it, the more expensive it gets. Also, there's that thing I mentioned before about it being hard to take away features once you add it on.

I knew it. I've been banging on that the new iPod won't be like the iPhone. It's much too soon!

Still. I like the new menu and the lack of fancy menu effects and visuals has become noticable of late. Knowing Apple this could likely take the form of a 5.5G update, but it won't.

A definite no buy from me. I skip 1-2 generations so I'll be in when it's the iPhone-pod.

is it normal for apple legal to interfere with this site??

They've been asked in the past but its not like an every week occurrence. Apple will interfere with any site that publishes leaked information whether its true or false. The problem is, people get their hopes up for something that is totally false and then when Apple releases something everyone bitches because it doesn't have the features in the false statements. Some people fail to realize that not everything on Apple rumor sites and what analysts say is true. Everything is pure speculation until it comes from Apple's mouth. This is why Apple pursues this stuff so much. They also don't want competitors catching up to them any faster than they normally do. There's nothing like being beat to the punch with a killer product because it was leaked out to someone.

And doesn't seem to suit a OSX powered iPod-should be much more iPhone like, but a bit thicker (as a HDD would be used-imagine what 80gb of flash would cost).

Has Apple ever asked YouTube to remove videos before?

if you want a link to all 3 of the vids go to page 8 of the thread and look for my post and the link is in a picture hosted on imageshack

[removed per request from Apple legal]

Mod parent down... When will the news sites stand up to those bullies at Apple legal?

This is simply wrong.

I've been doing this for 7 years, and Apple has never asked for Fake/False information to be taken down.

Well hey, since Apple removed the videos from the internet, now we know its real! I was hoping for touch controls though.

So then those vids are all but officially confirmed to be real then?

so, yes - apple owns the copyright on those videos. Beyond that they may or may not release a product exactly like it.... But historically has meant its a coming product.

Welll at least I was able to see them before they were removed. Unfortunately they didn't impress me all that much after owning the iPhone. It will have to be something very special for me to purchase it right away.

So because of Apple's legal requests, we are tending to believe that Apple at least has the copyright to these videos and their design implementations. I can't imagine the iPhone can be a better iPod than a next-gen iPod, so I will maintain that we will see a touch-screen 6g iPod. However, the original videos posted I'm pretty sure had a screen resolution of 320x240. That would lead me to believe that these mockups are actually for a next gen higher resolution iPod nano. Of course, we know these videos HAD to be mockups, by Apple or otherwise. Why? Well, aside from the mistakes that everyone has pointed out, we had a video of the iPod interface. But without the use of a video camera I have no idea how someone would have does a movie screen capture.

I didn't read all this but as far as tactile feedback is concerned, a multitouch screen could get the job done without looking at the screen

Example:
skip the next track - one tap
search a track - tap and hold
go back a track - double tap
volume up/down - vertical stroke

Not sure why no one else has wondered: what the hell is Apple's legal department doing calling arn at 3am? That makes no sense to me and if it was legitimately them calling, that is horribly RUDE and unprofessional, I think.

It has to be something major if arn gets a phone-call at 3 AM to have the post taken off.
I just don't see how apple can continue to keep this screen size even after releasing their movie downloading service via iTunes. It just makes sense once you sell movies to start selling devices targeted more directly at viewing the very movies you sell.
It's hard to imagine a small form factor change and a software update to satisfy a 300 day wait for the new iPod. Apple is too innovative to let this stale technology hang around while competitors begin to catch up.
Having the iPod become similar to the iPhone may or may not interfere with eachother's sales, but it is far better to have two great products out there from the same company then just make a worse product to try not to injure the other. It doesn't really matter if the iPod takes away from the iPhone, they are both from the same company. You either sell a lot more iPhones or you sell a lot more iPods. What's the difference? Neither is going to fail.

I don't know, I would just be really disappointed if Apple was using this for the main iPod. I hope it's for the nano.

And also, how does Apple have Arn's home number unless Apple and Macrumors have spoken before about something?

I am not saying they are working together, but I still think there is a you scratch my back, I'll throw you a scrap here and there between the two parties.
