In the UK, carriers seem to be getting shafted big time. Most seem to have hardy any stock for pre-orders. I ordered at just before 8am and I'm being told it's a 2-3 week delay.

Then you shouldn't of ordered a JB? It said before you ordered that it wasn't going to be delivered on the 16th.

Most phones will receive tracking information soon with delivery tomorrow.

Like most other people with experience preordering iPhones I figured that was just a conservative estimate

It makes sense that Apple would take care of their direct orders first though. They simply got demand for the Plus completely wrong this year and that's the knock on effect.

It might make sense from their point of view, but it's still a crappy move for those of us who are still loyal customers, and are still paying Apple indirectly a lot of money for a phone.

It's frustrating that people who ordered from Apple are having their orders pushed forwards, while those of us who didn't have that choice are being pushed back. And that's coming from a massive Apple fan (and ex retail store employee).

i can't believe the dates are out until Novemer for all the models. or is it just jet black. thats crazy. they clearly limited supplies, cause no way ordering within first half hour would give you such late dates. so crazy. Im sure dates will move up next week.

If your phone switched to preparing to ship tonight, then it's already in the US most likely and you should receive tracking information soon with delivery tomorrow. UPS can get packages anywhere in the United States very quickly.
I am not sure about that, others (not JB) have tracking numbers and are watching the progress from China. If you order from Apple, don't tracking tracking numbers get assigned when the phone is loaded on the pallet in Shenzhen?

I feel your pain. had a quick look on the EE forums and it's gone into meltdown over there.

The issue is that EE employees didnt know about aupply issues so they are twlling customers that they will be getting the plus models on launch day and then now they are not. For once the issue isnt ee's fault but I guess most people over there dont understand that.

Ultimately cash is king. If I'm paying a grand outright I want to be front of the line when things like this happen though.

not sure what direct orders first means. also what do you mean got the plus wrong.
Direct orders through apple.com rather than thru the carrier and they underestimated demand for the JB Plus. I don't think they necessarily missed the mark on demand rather the manufacture process for that phone is probably slower than the other models. The yield is probably barely at what Apple considers acceptable. Can you imagine how many of those don't pass Q/A and Foxconn has to eat them?

No, sometimes they will bring over pallets of phones and leave them in a warehouse here in the US until they transfer into the hands of UPS. Some people last year never received any tracking information until the day of. Like I said before, Apple has a very complex system.

Orders placed on the Apple site are direct orders. These appear to be getting prioritised over delivery to the various carriers.

And it is also coming to the surface that Apple got demand of the plus model all wrong, making far too few of them for demand. Likely due to dual lens.
