I know my pre-teen daughters have and want iPhones, They want nothing to do with android and most of their friends have iPhones so they constantly facetime each other

Ironically a thread about teenagers has a large amount of users here acting like little kids with their comments.

No surprise there. The posters here have seen the future, and they realise they have no place in this new world order which they ironically had a hand in bringing about.

This article makes total sense. As a young adult about to grow out of being a Teenager, 99% of my friends have a iPhone and love it. A few of them have tried android and never caught on (that's ok cause we are all different) :)

One of the reasons I feel is that its a lot easier to communicate with then with exclusive ways like iMessage and FaceTime. With iMessage, you can participate in group chairs with iPads and iPhones alike. On Android things get harder (you have to use other apps). Not having a iPhone makes it a lot harder to communicate with my peers. Personally I have to keep telling my friends I cannot use iMessage nor FaceTime while on the go due to no longer having a iPhone.

Just curious but, how many of you here with teens are planning to buy a $1000+ iPhones? I don't think too many teens can afford such devices, nor can they get a Next type plan because of their age. If I was Apple I would not count on quite so many sales.
No one thinks of the final cost of these phones. They just see $33 dollars a month. My wife and I took in a 20year old roomate that constantly complains about money and she has a 7 plus. I can barely afford my SE.

I think people are waiting for the iPhone 8 and seeing what Apple do as it's the 10th anniversary, there will be a big number of people upgrading from older devices probably and i wouldn't be surprised to see that the iPhone 8 sells out within minutes just like every year and then backlogged for a while.

They have a place they could be used to feed the matrix.

"But mooooom! I NEED that new iPhone! Like, OMG, how can you be so STUPID? Why should I get a JOB? You, like, work already!"

But yes, understandable. iMessage, Facetime, Emojis, "Clips", Beats and ease of use would be things I imagine teens care about. Security, updates and integration in the ecosystem, the appstore approval process and such are probably more interesting for the older demographic, myself included.

Shows how teens in the US are so different to the rest of the world, My kids would rather have a newer large Android phone then a cast off smaller iPhone, Facetime and iMessage are irrelevant to them, its WhatsApp all the way to ensure they can communicate with all their friends no matter what phone they have

This actually pretty sad. I understand strong passion, loyalty and preference towards Apple from teenagers, but..this is exactly what causes big companies like Apple abuse their power and "dominance" over these customers.
I am sure this (71%) number would be way less if they know about rumors of having 1000$ base(?) model iPhone.

Have you been at cryogenic sleep since 2001?
And what is it with people in this forum anyway? I would love to know what is it that makes people think Apple should only make Macs?
I have been in a Cryogenic Sleep, thats correct. I don't think anyone cares if Apple makes gadgets, the problem is Apple stopped making professional computers.

I think Professional is a subjective term when it comes to computers. And scond, Apple does seem to be investing mainly in stuff people are interested most. Frankly, I can't blame them. That's what they should do if they have to suxeed. And yes, people do seem to care of Apple makes gadget, it's quite evident in every article about Apple making something that is other then Mac you got people moaning how this company is not a computer company anymore. The Macbook Pro I got last November must have been made by Dell or something!!

Sounds like teens prefer the fitness band they can afford because this list basically goes from cheapest to most expensive in preference order.

Professional may be subjective in certain markets, but not mine. I have worked in TV, FILM and Professional VFX for over 20 years. Apple has completely abandoned our market and tried to replace professional workstations with the Trash Can or told us to buy an iMac. Our network is 16GB Firbre, something that our 5,1 MacPros where fine with because we had PCI-E.. We are reliant on CUDA for everything from rendering to visualization. OpenCL does not work. We have millions invested in Apple Hardware and MacOS software. When we upgrade our computers we buy 20 to 40 workstations at a time, and every year Apple is making it harder and harder for us. Our market has been abounded by Apple. The Professional market.

This survey is a joke and here's why.

1. The survey only asked 5500 teenagers questions and it doesn't even state from where, hardly an overall representation of teenagers as a whole.

2. They openly admit that they skew data to try to get companies they "report" on to pay them. Hence the legal disclaimer at the bottom of the report:

Piper Jaffray & Co. does and seeks to do business with companies covered in its research reports. As a result, investors should be aware that the firm may have a conflict of interest that could affect the objectivity of this report.

76% of teens own an iPhone? Was this survey localized to Marin County?

I used to spit on Android as screen-tearing garbage. Well, they've finally figured this out. My LG Aristo I got free from T-Mobile is fine. It does everything I need it to do, and looks fine to me. Since my personal stuff syncs with Google, going to Android is not a problem.

I considered shelling out $599 for an iPhone. I did. But why?

Old man shrugs and says "Flibbedy!"

whenever I read these sorts of posts regarding what teens want and what they get?

http://www.boredpanda.com/worst-twitter-complaints-about-christmas-gifts/

I just look at these. Every christmas it's entitled brats complaining that they weren't gifted a $1000 phone.

I also don't believe the stats that 76% of teens have iPhones. I'm betting there's a bit of fibbing going on here by teens who may feel peer pressure from their friends to claim that.

Overall, iPhones are ~30% of the global smartphone market. To believe nearly 80% of 13 through 18 year olds are using iPhones only is a big stretch, and i'm going to have to call into account the validity of this survey and the use of it as click bait to help with a narrative

thank you. That pretty much validates my above belief that this Survey is bogus, wasn't done with any scientific credibility and as clearly outlined in that post, this is more like the survey company trying to make a sales pitch to apple

Just google speed tests and see the results for yourself and quit fooling yourself.
Not fooling myself thanks. I put all 3 side by side last night - iPhone 6+, Galaxy S5, Axon 7. The A7 was fastest, then about even GS5, iP6+. But then again I guess I should take someone else's word for what I saw with my own eyes.

I don't want an MP3 as a ringtone as I am happy with the stock tones. Also, that's not really a direct comparison. We're talking daily usage not specific task. There are several different legitimate speed test done by multiple people. A series of 10-15 apps that most people use daily are loaded onto each phone, each and every time the iPhone wins, by a lot.

I did these: Facebook, Web Browser (Chrome or Safari), Mail client, Waze, phone dialer, Lightroom, maps, and maybe one other.

iPhone 6+ (latest iOS) and Galaxy S5 (6.01) were about even - sometimes one was faster, sometimes the other was faster with launch times.
Azon 7 (7.1.1) was the fastest of all.

The best part is my Axon doesn't near lock up when some e-mails come in. That was one huge annoyance with my 6+.

The only area Apple is superior is wearables. The Apple Watch (I have one too) is easily the best. The Android Wear models seem to be a mess and not one really comes close to the Apple Watch.
