Mac4Ever has received [Google translation] multiple tips claiming that Mac OS X Snow Leopard has reached "Golden Master" status, meaning that it has been finalized and is ready to be released to manufacturing for the public launch. The build number of the Golden Master is reportedly 10A432, compared to the last known developer seed (Build 10A421a) released over two weeks ago.
Several knowledgeable sources (Do not mess with it) believe that Snow Leopard (10A432) have finally reached the stage of Golden Master. Clearly, unless a blocking problem is the version currently distributed internally to serve as a basis for pressing DVD.
Commenters on the Mac4Ever report note the recent appearance of several benchmarks for Build 10A432 appearing in the Geekbench database, although the entries have since been removed.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard is slated for a September release and will be priced at $29 for current OS X Leopard owners. Users purchasing a new Mac on June 8th, 2009 or later can receive the updated operating system for $9.95 though Apple's "Up to Date" program.

It's already on pre-order from Amazon for me. Perhaps we'll see this earlier than we expected. For those in the know, how long does it typically take from Gold Master to enough DVDs pressed and boxed for distribution?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for early September. My birthday week of the 7th would be amazing. However, I know Apple so I still suspect late September will be the release.

it might be early sept or would Apple clash a OS launch with iPod launches?

I'm contemplating on whether or not I should pre-order on Amazon as well, or just show up at the local Apple store for a quick pickup.

I don't think the Family Packs will be flying out the door, but I've never been around for an OS X launch. Is it like iPhone Day? Standing in long lines, mass crowding in and around the store?

You could just order it from Apple once they put it up online, since they likely will offer release day delivery as they have done in the past.

Seems like early Sep. is unlikely. Wiki for OSX releases (i.e 10.0 10.1 10.2, etc), all of them were released at the end (24th-26th) of their respective months.

I also have a question: I'm new to Macs and have two Macs at home now. Can I just buy one SL CD and use it to install on both machines?

Yes, if you buy the family pack (which is $50 and allows up to 5 machines) - provided you have Leopard already installed on these already.

Yes, you can, but it violates the Terms of Use. Your best off buying a Family Pack, or two SL DVDs.

Gold Master = the RTM equivalent for windows 7?

As in, the final build?

GM=RTM, same thing.

Even MS calls RTM a GM build as well.

Where does Nov come in? Apple has been stating months that Snow Leopard will be released in Sept. Now that the GM is in testing, it's a lock.

And yes you can install it on both machine if you want, the license is for one machine but there is no serial or activation. The family pack is only 49$ and for 5 machines. If you love OS X, get the family pack.
