I'm glad I'm still on my Dual 2,5 G5.
These new machines does not yet justify an update for me with these prices and relatively insignificant performance-increase. (Granted, I don't do heavy 3d or video, I understand others have a different view on this.)
Maybe the next time they update I will do the upgrade, as there will be sufficient increase in speed, and hopefully not as expensive RAM as t is now, which is also a majot factor stopping me, as I need at least 4gb..

Lower Display Prices!!!

Check out the display prices the 30 inch a drop of 200 Dollars!!!

Education price now at 1599 for a 30" Apple Display!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah baby! I am gonna fork out for one of these babys the moment they hit the UK shop. Thankfully I get a 20% discount......

Last year Phil got up and told us these things were cheaper than a Dell. That's never happened to us before for a computer at the high-end like this. So understandably we're going to see come confused Mac users today who don't yet understand that when you start OUT witih a lower price, you have much less reason to change it.

Mac Pro was chaper than a equivalent Dell eight months ago. During that eight months, the price of Mac Pro has remained stable. What has happened to the price of Dell? Is it still more expensive (I honestly don't know)?

How shameful of Apple! The current quad line has been the same price for almost a year! Same crappy ram, hd space, and graphics card! WTF! What computer stays the same price with no upgrades for almost a year! What a complete rip off. I love Apple but F this. seriously. An expensive "super computer" with non super parts!

Should we see some well deserved price cuts or upgraded components in the next few months?

???? The current lineup has only been shipping for 6 months. Announced in August, and not shipping any quantity until late sept or early october.

Wasn't there an option to downgrade the harddrive before? (to 160 GB or something like that) Seems to be gone, or maybe it's just my memory that's gone.

$4000 is way too much!!!!

$4000:eek:
u better buy 2 dual cores macpro it will cost $4400!!!

thanks God I didn't wait:D

Once again - couldn't buy a MacPro 8 months ago. You beta testing time machine?

Just noticed on the performance page:

For most tests they test vs a Quad 2.5GHz G5. But for Photoshop they test via a Dual 2.3 GHz G5, and even a Dual 1.25GHz G4. It looks like they 'tilted' the benchmarks by choosing slower machines for comparison - it certainly looks like a Quad 2.5GHz G5 would outperform these machines in Photoshop based on these tests.

Ah, Sweet! Quad Core MacBook Pro's next tuesday! :p
If they keep shrinking the chips and create a low-power version, this may be a possible future (obviously, not next Tuesday, but some Tuesday).

Now that a true quad-core chip exists, it would be nice to see the iMac get one and then, finally, a C2D for the MacMini.

I'm just guessing, and probably badly at that.

Mac Pro was released August 7th 2006, and it was announced to be available "immediately". That's more or less 8 months ago.

Well I'm disappointed. Like others, I was expecting upgrades to graphics or at least a price drop to the current models. And there's no way I could afford an 8-core machine at $4k+. Oh well, I guess I will stick to my MacBook Pro and see what the next revisions look like in 6 months or so.

The truth is if you don't do heavy graphics or gaming, your old G4 single would be just fine. I do video editing for a living and I just upgraded from my dual G4 to the low end quad intel (not ocho).

People are complaining about cost. When I bought the dual G4 1ghz, it was close to 3 grand!

This is well outside my price range and needs, but it is great to see Apple providing the most powerful Pro solutions they can to put them ahead in the high end of design, photography and film production.

Well, at least the complaining will end now that they finally ship Quad-core processors in the Mac Pro line up.

Come on, now. You've been here long enough to know that people always complain, regardless of how good or bad a release is. :p

True, but I noticed a great difference from my Dual 500mhz G4 to my Dual 2,5ghz G5, so I'm happy with that. As I will be happy when I upgrade sometimes later to a significantly better Intel-machine than the one I have now.
I'm not complaining about the base-price, but you must admit that the price of getting a machine with a decent amount of RAM is much worse for these new machines than the G5 that I have.

Were tests on new CS3 on 8 Core Intel Mac Pro... haven't read it yet.

3tb?

Pricing seems to have stayed the same, just with the uber expensive 8-core option.

I just noticed that now it supports up to 3TB internal storage, is that how it always was? I thought it was only capable of 2 before? Maybe I just missed that. A shame they didn't drop the other prices.
