Incremental stuff. From here to infinity.

How about adding something as basic and important as 'predictive text' to more than a handful of languages? (Google has offered it for years).

Or how about making Siri truly useful and reliable?

Currently using an iPhone 11 Pro. If the iPhone 15 has Optical zoom + USB then it'll be hte one to buy.

I've given up hope on software features like Siri ever getting better, but I don't use it beyond asking it to play music when in CarPlay.

“Dinamic island” is a feature similar to “recharge battery every day”
I mean, is something we have to deal with, but is far from being a feature. The feature would be get rid of screen holes and “eye candy marketing features”

Siri is like a baby who never grows up.
I guess is quite difficult to teach a machine to do stuff and the process is slow, but there are so many basic commands Siri cant do yet that makes me feel is a forgotten feature at all.

Yeah I think you are right, I think it will be the 16 model that gets it, I just have a small feeling that a new "big" feature in the 15 pro series will be USB-C.

The new law is pretty lenient:
The new rules would not apply to products placed on the market before the date of application.

So they can really wait and go for the wireless.

American don't really grasp the European reality.

All iPhones sold by Apple in EU must have USB-C by the end of 2024.

So why iPhone 2023 must have USB-C?

Because no matter when was the release date, they cannot sold it past Fall 2024.

Imagine that they introduce USB-C in iPhone 16 in Fall 2024. They wouldn't be able to sell any other phone than iPhone 16 and 16 Pro (and iPhone 16 and 16 Pro will be delayed and hard to get, so basically, there would be no phones to buy from Apple for a few months from Apple partners, etc.)

They won't be able to sell older iPhone nor iPhone SE (this one needs USB-C as well).

So yeah, this all leads to the fact that iPhone 15 will have USB-C for sure.
As I understand it, it does not depend on the date of sale. The date of market launch is decisive.

How is "Same Sizes" a feature (one of the 8 features) for the Iphone 15? What is that? That's like saying everything the same is a feature too.
1. Same Size
2. More RAM
3. Name Change
4. Dynamic Island for All Models

: )

I'm curious - did the 14 Plus phones sell better than the 13 / 12 minis? If so, wouldn't it make more sense to bring the smaller models back vs creating a bigger phone that doesn't do as well and arguably is more expensive to manufacture?
Yay
But Apple usually keep features for 2 years even if it is bad, the mini stayed for 2 years and Apple tried ti improve the battery at least to make it not that bad(Since terrible battery life was the no.1 problem on the mini). Apple might put a 90hz promotion on 14 plus¿

I'm hoping my poor iPhone 6s plus would last until the 15 comes out. It's running on its last leg now and I want to pull the trigger for a new phone but I really want a usb-c port. More RAM is always nice too.
Refreshing to hear not everyone is discarding their phones after 2 years.

So basically more RAM and a new CHIP is all they can brag about as they have been doing for 10 years. I remember Microsoft used to release new stuff every 3 months and it was "faster processor" every single time before Jobs took Apple to where it is. Once Jobs came in the picture and changed the world and didn't use this Microsoft formula, they had to change and start innovating.
Whell unless yoy think about surface and the ill fated windows phones /where they even produced directly by MD) Ms is not the big when it comes to hw , shore you di'nt mean one of the other dosin or so pc manufacturers?

Okay, I found the source, yeah, the transition will be pretty slow then:

The new rules would not apply to products placed on the market before the date of application.

From sources I've seen, it's pretty simple.

After fall 2024, you cannot sell devices without USB-C port. Period.

Apple won't be able to offer any devices without USB-C. So they won't be able to sell older versions cheaper (like they do now) if they won't start going USB-C with iPhone 15, so they will have at least 3 models with USB-C by the time the legislation will be in effect.

So the lineup will look like this:
- refreshed iPhone SE with USB-C
- iPhone 15 with USB-C
- iPhone 16 and 16 Pro with USB-C
All devices which were released before fall 2024 can be sold w/o USB-C.

”Gilt der neue Standard auch rückwirkend?
Nein. Die neuen EU-Vorgaben werden erst für jene Produkte gelten, die ab Mitte 2024 auf den Markt gebracht werden”

Source is German state media. USB-C is only mandatory for new devices.

With phones being mostly boring, the only thing that can convince me to upgrade now is the camera. I do want better optical zoom tech and a periscope lens would probably push me to get a new phone.

If RAM was a priority, how did you manage to stay with a 6s for the past 7 years?!

“Disposed of and unused chargers are estimatedto represent about 11,000 tonnes of e-waste annually.”
There are no chargers included in iphones. All the lightning cables become obsolete and waste. I don’t own any usb-c device so I don’t have any usb-c cables and chargers.
Soon I need to buy these new cables and chargers and throw the old stuff away. This is such a nonsense again from the EU.

Like they tried to comply with South Korea and got slapped twice? If he tries, he must be retarded, too risky to play with 10% or 20% of their annual world wide turnover. USB-C will come, wireless is just another port type, and they demand USB-C. Furthermore, the documents says they will actively monitor and adapt the law as needed. The more Apple tries to circumvent und kick legs, the stricter and better the law will become.

Anyway, currently there is no way to circumvent a cabled port type, developing, debugging, and testing would become slow and a hassle.
Can confirm... using Xcode to iPhone without a cable is very slow and unreliable.

How would solid state buttons work with cases? Would all cases need cutouts?

The solid state buttons will still be more-or-less the same size and in the same location as previous designs. It's just the way they work internally which changes: haptic click rather than a real, physical one.

A cutout should only be needed if the case material was very thick. Touch sensors can still work through thin layers of plastic etc.

Apple never said they would add USB-C.

They said they would comply.

That's a big difference, and an important difference that I think many here overlook.

They could simply remove the Lightning port and continue to use MagSafe/Qi charging and be in compliance.

Think about it. What is more likely for Apple to do: switch to a new connector for the iPhone, or remove the connector entirely? You know it, I know it, Tim Cook knows it. There will never be USB-C in the iPhone. They will say that this helps with water proofing (just like removing physical buttons) and tout how it saves space inside the device so they could increase the battery and fit the periscope camera. You know that's what's going to happen. Stop pretending you don't.
I really hope that happens.
