No way? That sucks, man. Wonder why mine is different. Can you record your phone having it’s little ding tantrum and send it to Apple/the dock manufacturers?
I decided to give it another chance at work. It only seems to happen when the phone's been on the charger for several hours (or maybe only starting when it reaches 100%). So, for bedside use, it's not going to work, but it might just be good enough for work, where I'm constantly taking the phone off and putting it back on.
Basically, until Friday, it's on trial. If I notice it turning the screen on and dinging on the desk, I'll return the charger and call it quits. Personally I think 70 dollars is a bit much, so I'd just wait until there are more Apple-certified wireless chargers or until the current ones drop in price.

Could this be issues with the iphone itself?
I don't believe so - I tested it with a couple different iPhone 8/Plus devices and they all exhibited identical behaviour.
Oops

I’d really like to know if the issue gets fixed with that charger.
Ps. One of my friend is using a Nokia charger and it doesn’t show the same issue as yours.

Man, that charger is 100 dollars in Canada! :O
Yeah second night with the Belkin and no issues. The one thing I have noticed is that when I take it off the Belkin at 100% it starts draining faster than when I charge it wired. Wired charge it stays at 100% longer before it begins to tick down. Maybe the wireless doesn’t top off as much as a safety measure? I have no idea.
Yeah I kind of noticed that with wireless chargers, they don't fill the last 5% or so very quickly. It likely has to do with the wireless charging technology not delivering a strong enough charge to overcome the relatively weak concentration gradient.
EDIT: Yeah it already failed the "trial." Started dinging right after I posted... okay, back to charging wired for me, I guess... would be nice if Apple made their stuff actually Qi compatible and not Qi* compatible. Normally I'd put the blame on these chargers first but there's no reason to do so when the chargers in question have thousands of 4 or 5 star ratings praising them and seem to work beautifully on every other phone out there.
