Can someone explain this to me?

How is this any different than what happens with an older iPhone (or the 8/8+) that is plugged into the charger block via the lightning cable? The chime is the same, the process is the same, all that is different is the way the phone connects to the power source... why have we never read about issues with those phones chiming in the middle of the night when they are doing their charge/stop/charge cycle?

MKBHD has also said in his review that the iPhone gets a lot warmer when wirelessly charging than he's seen happen with other phones.

What worked on your Samsung has nothing to do with what will work with your iPhone. The iPhone might need a little more charge rate to stay charging.

What worked for his Samsung has every bit of relevance for this case. It proves the wireless charger isn't the issue.

I think I’m going to hold off of wireless charging with the X. Until this is sorted, I want complete darkness when I sleep, and I wake up with the slightest of sounds.

Lol

"You're holding it wrong"
"You're putting it in the wrong pocket"
"You're using the wrong charger"

Despite the fact that the chargers I used are the highest rated Qi chargers on Amazon in several countries and work flawlessly with every single other phone except the iPhone.

They said that iPhone was using the Qi standard... so why is it failing with the highest rated, most popular (by far) chargers online? A bit curious that they'd make the iPhone only work with the stupidly overpriced and inferior ones sold at the Apple Store.

Never change, Apple loyalists. Tell me more about how Apple is a veteran in the Qi industry and how they're doing it properly while everyone else is doing it wrong.

LOL! Stubborn? Enjoy the “bong”!

Care to explain why? Maybe we can find where your train of thought went wrong.

I would say that my train of thought is pretty good as I have 3 of the Belkin chargers charging 2 watches and they work perfectly. My friend tried to use his Samsung charger and it bonged over and over until he also went to the Apple store and got the Belkin and charged his phone last night with only one bong when it first started charging.

Just sayin. . . .. . .

Put your phone on silent. Problem solved
Except the screen still turns on but thanks anyway

Exactly

Afraid not.
Not exactly

I hope it's as simple as a software fix...

Not stubborn, just not stupid. I'm not gonna blame the hundreds of wireless chargers out there that have worked perfectly for dozens of other phones for years.

Apple is a newcomer to Qi charging - it's more likely that they screwed it up. You'd have to be bit of a...brand loyalist... to try to pin the blame on the chargers themselves.

Your powers of deduction leave a lot to be desired frankly

I'm not going to give Apple 70 dollars for an inferior "iPhone-certified" charger just because they're too dumb/greedy/both to make their phone properly Qi compatible.

I should have known there'd be a catch when they announced this feature.

I should have known there'd be a catch when I posted here about this... the barrage of brand loyalists apologizing for every dumb mistake their favouritest company in the whole wide world makes is getting a bit old.

I have an iPhone 8 Plus and my screen never flashes on when it finishes charging. I am using an anker charging pad

No Apple apologist here. Only Apple equipment I have left is my iPads and watch. The MBPros latest turned me back to my Thinkpads. I just happened to have lucked out and ordered the charger when I ordered the 8+. Looking back, $59 was a bargain considering it was just plug and play. Ordered two more and not looking back.

When I look at what some of the people here are going through, I consider myself lucky. I do admire how “head strong” many are in their journey.

Never heard my iPhone make a noise when it was fully charged either by cord or wireless.

Me neither. Perhaps it's just how the iOS manages wireless charging. I know when charging via cable it never really stops, it just reduces to a trickle charge.
Wireless might actually disconnect until the battery drops below say 98%. There is one other variable here. Not using an Apple Qi charger. I know it's probably expensive especially when you already have one but you know what Apple are like. Lucky you didn't get the, "This Device May Not Be Compatible" warning as I did with my tried and true Garmin earphones, originally purchased from an Apple Shop

been to the genius bar yesterday, they confirmed my issue was caused by icloud backup or wifi backup to itunes. as soon as it disconnects from wifi, the charging issues go away. they said its probably because it drains battery faster than it can be charged, should be fixed once apple release the fast wireless charging later this year. we will see

Just charge on silent! Not had any issues with my iPhone 8 plus and wireless charging. Its amazing actually how convenient wireless charging is. I work at my PC all day and just popping my phone down for a top up and lifting back up as I please is nice experience. Got a real cheap one as well for $19 from www.jollypowa.com

Ever find a solution? Mine does this too. Was disconnecting/reconnecting every 10 seconds last night with charge at 75%. It buzzes and lights up the screen each time.

Mine hasn't done this for awhile - but I make sure to plug in the wireless chargers into a >1 amp brick. So I don't use an iPhone brick but an Anker 2.4a 12w charging brick - this seems to have solved it for me. That and, I don't charge overnight anymore. My 8+ lasts long enough that I can just drop it on the wireless or plug it in for a little bit and still keep >80% charge throughout the day. So, I haven't charged overnight in awhile and have no plans to.

Also, I noticed that my older wireless chargers were more likely to do the stuff you described - the newer wireless chargers are better at this.

Thanks. I’ll try that. Currently using the little iPhone cube.
