Funny you say I'm making excuses when I don't even use an iPhone, guess you are making excuses too to justify supporting Tim's penny pinching?
You are right on the 14's steel frame though.
I also see that most of your posts are negative and anti-apple. Funny that you're hanging out in an apple centric website hating on apple products. Cool past time. It now makes sense with your comments saying the 14Pro is a better phone than the 17Pro...

I agree, it's definitely the ugliest iPhone they've shipped. That combined with no improvements to the main camera and the lack of 2TB for the regular Pro made me ultimately decide to pass and keep my 16 Pro for now.
Good facts: The 16 Pro battery size is 3,582 mAh compared to the 17 pro’s 4,252 mAh. About a 19% bump up. Combine that with the new A19 pro chip with gpu neural accelerators , first vapor chamber, Ceramic Shield 2, Bluetooth 6, Qualcomm X80 modem, better quality of life selfie cam and other camera and video enhancements makes it a solid upgrade. This is the phone to bide your time with until the 20th anniversary. You might as well get the highest trade-in value now before your phone will be worth even less when next year comes around and much less thereafter

The iPhone camera lens is already operating at something like an f/20 full-frame equivalent. Variable aperture isn’t going to help much.

I like the fact that when the 18 pros come out next year, my 17 Pro will have a more expensive part than theirs in the camera control button which is more sophisticated and multifaceted. I quite like being able to adjust focus by just gliding my finger over the button

I don't judge anyone who likes and bought the new 17 Pro line.
But to me - this is the ugliest phone design Apple has ever created and released.

And the Orange is the worst....

Again - this is about tastes, but it doesn't resonate with me at all....
I won't be upgrading to 18 Pro if it stays like this...

When it comes to art, creativity, style, expression, etc. - no judgement here either.
I've long been fascinated and excited that something can resonate with one, repel another. I'm such fan of the diversity in art, creativity and expression. Take fashion, as an example. While I have a pretty specific lane in which I personally drive, I draw so much inspiration from the incredible expression possible in that world. In n increasingly binary world, I LOVE how non-binary creativity is. Thank goodness.

That said, I happen to like the silver Pro Max a lot. Been my fav iPhone to date (and I've had every iteration save 5, 8 and Air). And I know it's not selling well in the States, but the Air feels so revolutionary in-hand. If they could somehow manage to get its specs a bit more robust, it might bar a thing - the form factor is that amazing.

And yeah, orange is THE worst. 😜

There will be the usual yearly improvements but I feel the 17 Pro/Pro Max is a big update and the next year will be a minor one especially when 2027 is the 20th anniversary model. Besides the 17 Pro/Pro Max just came out now and there is no need to wait for something that is 12 months away.

Years as an Apple customer, shareholder and observer causes me to understand the likelihood that Apples clever marketing played a role in choosing the bright safety cone Orange color. Knowing it would stand out and be instantly recognizable as the latest iPhone was the goal.

Because a share of their user base personally identify with their iPhones and love to show them off, this color fulfills their desires. Of all the new iPhones I’ve seen since the 17 release, the ones being carried without cases are invariably orange.

Given the various issues, I’m holding fast to my iPhone 16 Pro Max and taking a wait and see approach before I even begin to consider giving any more money to Apple for an “upgrade”.

A certain phone manufacturer released this model a year ago, featuring the much-hyped "Vapour Chamber" in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, and at less than 50% of the price of those 17 Pros. What might that company come up with by the time Tim makes a presentation for the 18 Pro and Pro Max? What other innovations might other companies introduce, before Tim's presentation? Will the iPhone ever catch up?

Phones, tablets, computers, CPUs, etc., are constantly evolving, so there is always some reason(s) to wait.

If we continuously wait for the next generation, we would never own these devices.
One of the issues is websites that once the new device is released then it’s all of a sudden this is what the next one may contain

"8 Reasons to Wait for Next Year's iPhone 18 Pro"

Or, buy a new Oppo Find X9 just released in Barcelona.

But, it's not available in the US. You've to visit Europe, Asia or Africa, or maybe Mexico.

And even if it was available in the US, would you want it? So many privacy concerns…

Well, the US is an isolated country. We don't have such problems. You have those 3-letter "institutions." ;)
I have an iPhone, 2 Macs...all of which are made in China...Hmmm

I waited long enough. As much as I loved my 14Pro, it was getting long in the tooth. No AI and the battery drain was getting worse. I was not going to wait another year. No I don't love the looks of the 17Pro or any of the colors and why I'm using a black case to fully cover the phone and also chose the deep blue color. I have always used clear cases to fully show off the iPhone's beauty. Not this time. I do believe the 18Pro will have decent upgrades but will remain very close in resemblance to the 17Pro. Although I do think they will include a black/space black/space gray next time. As much as I don't love the 17Pro's looks I do love the upgrades from the 14Pro. The phone is much faster, more fluid, has more space, more ram, better battery, and over all a better phone.

I made the same upgrade, 14 Pro to 17 Pro, for similar reasons, my 14 battery was shot away and drained quickly. I love the 17 Pro and actually don’t think it’s the ugliest thing to ever be invented 😂 I actually find the Air rather ugly, but of course it’s all opinion.

No I don't think the 17Pro is ugly. Just not as good looking as the 14Pro which I loved. Definitely not a beautiful phone IMO. I will most likely keep the new 17Pro for 2 more years or so when hopefully Apple comes out with another space black phone. Will probably be the 20Pro by that time. I am very happy with the upgrade so far.

If you only purchase a new phone every 5-6 years, you’ll always be impressed! I currently own a 15 Pro, so I’ll likely wait for the iPhone 20 or 21 Pro, or the second or third generation iFold before making another purchase.

Sony makes best camera/sensors. I’m glad I bought 17, last one with Sony hardware. Not upgrading to iPhone again until Sony is back in the game. Bye 🍎

P. S. Is samsun is going to make a better camera for the direct competitor?

I don't really need a new camera... it just uses more bandwidth, more storage requirements, more iCloud backup space requirements... phone works great. I'll stick with my Canon mirrorless for the best photo quality.
