i can see the next suit.

78 year old man breaks hand reaching into ipad screen to grab picture of food.

Tonewheel - you don't find this suit a money grab or at all ridiculous? if a person is suing a company for walking into a glass door because it wasn't clearly marked, then we should just slap multiple safety stickers on everything. i can see it now, labels on sidewalks indicated slippery when wet and careful due to uneven surface or bumpy.

can't apple counter by saying she was vandalizing?

Oh Jesus Christ.

Stop your crying you elderly idiot. You can't sue someone else for being incredibly stupid. This greedy fool represents the worst of what America has to offer. Obviously this person was NOT healthy or cogniscient enough to be wandering the mall alone. Apple is not her babysitter.

She should be ashamed of this silly lawsuit.

And just for the record, if she was solely suing for Apple to cover her medical bills, then I could actually sort of understand. This lawsuit reveals that she doesn't care about justice, only greed.

what's funny is she posted a google review two days before this story landed on macrumors.

“This is a very bad store. It caters to the young at the expense of the rest of us. I contributed to society for many years. I helped real people in the real world. I earned the right to be treated with respect and dignity. What have these people contributed? They aren't interested in helping anyone but themselves. I only wanted to return the telephone that didn't work with Horizon. I did nothing to deserve the injury and humiliation that I suffered. No one from the company cares enough to help me. I'm not who they're in the business of accommodating. They just want to throw stones from their ivory tower. We'll see about that. Dictated but not read.”

This makes it sound like she got angry when they wouldn't accept a return of the telephone that didn't work with Horizon, which suggests she managed the door on the way in. Perhaps on the way out, thinking of a way to get back at the store had her so distracted that she accidentally walked into the glass.

Recent South Park episode?

I am seeing this turn out like the recent South Part episode with the TSA (Toilet Safety Administration). The government will create a new administration that will require all sort of safety measures to be placed on glass doors. Motion detection sensors can be installed if someone's face gets to close. Maybe safety foam will shoot out if it detects that a person is about to walk into it. :D

That's not what happened - the spill happened when she was adding sugar to the cup. At no time was it in between her thighs. Honestly read the case before you try to comment on things.

O'RLY??????

The plaintiff and the spill incident. The plaintiff, a 79-year-old grandmother named Stella Liebeck, was not driving, nor was the vehicle moving when the injury occurred. While the car was stopped, Mrs. Liebeck, who was sitting in the passenger seat, tried to hold the coffee cup between her knees as she removed the lid. The cup tipped over, spilling the contents into her lap.

None of us here know all the facts, yet most will take Apples side? Maybe we'll wait and see before picking on the old lady. Sure there are too many lawsuits out there, but each case stands on its own.

Whatever the facts are, there is no way that the treatment of that broken nose costs $75000. I'd say a few hundred to a thousand dollars at most, so this amount of money is just preposterous.

This is not hexavalent chrome being fed to kids who need cancer treatment for years and years. It's a woman walking into a window. She needs a doctor's appointment, some bandages, a ride home and an free iPad 2 (I bet she can't appreciate the retina screen anyway, if she can't see the Apple Store Cube) all paid by Apple. Total cost: $2000 max. Oh, and a pair of glasses..

That fact thsat you minions would side with Apple over a poor old lady is pathetic and shows how well Apple marketing has brainwashed you. $75k is a drop in the bucket for Apple. Why are you people so opposed to them paying for their architecture mistake?

Ugg. I get really heated over silly opportunistic lawsuits from greedy people. I do realize that it's more likely her lawyer (or family) who is pushing her to do this, but it still doesn't make it right.

If you ask me, at first Apple had some sort of duty to cover her medical bills, if not legally then at least morally. She's an old woman who hurt herself in their store, and even if you can't blame Apple, they're rich enough that they should be kind and help her. But now that she has instead chosen to take advantage of the situation, I don't think she should get anything. Let her pay her own medical bills. And if she loses in court, let her pay Apple's legal fees.

The world (especially the U.S.) hates a winner. As soon as you're on top, you become a target.

"My mobile phone looks exactly like the iPhone but I'm offended that you think I copied your design."
"The latest iPad runs 10 degrees hotter, it's overheating!"
"Siri doesn't work 100% of the time, so I'm suing."
"The glass in the Apple store is too clean and I've never encountered a glass door or wall in my 83 years on this planet so I'm suing."

Whine. Whine. Whine.

Pathetic.

I just have one thing to say about this:

itsatrapmanhasset.png

After Mom cleaned my bay window glass on my house and put tiebacks on the curtains, I kept hearing a thud and finding dead birds in the front of the house.

So that makes this 83 year old woman about as smart as some of the birds in my neighborhood.

She should be suing Windex or her ophthalmologist instead! :D

Knees are different from thighs. Thighs are higher up. Different body part.

ETA: That part is irrelevant anyway - that was covered when the jury found her partially at fault. McDonalds was still mostly at fault and that was due to the damage that she sustained.

she was hired by microsoft to cause a stir so apple would have to change its slick design to its stores. since microsoft will be opening stores and they want them to look just as good.

I think that dumbass deserves to bleed. Anyone that approaches a store of any kind and is surprised at the fact that there is an obstacle to pass through to get in is a moron.

When I worked at an Apple Store we had people run into the door pretty often. Seems like it happened about once a week. I specifically remember and older gentleman, a little kid running around, and one of our employees. The employee was the funniest because he knew people ran into them and he left a big face print on the glass.

So I see it being a problem. However, I don't agree with sue hungry people. Ridiculous claim!
