To all the whiners: oh boo hoo. I paid $600 for mine, too, but so what? Did I get what I expected for my money? Yes. Does my iphone work any worse because other people can now get it cheaper? No. So why would I complain?

Holy crap. And in the first 2 months.

I bet Jobs was unhappy with sales. I bet 9 million iPhones he was expecting more sales.

As a purchaser of the 8GB iPhone on iDay, I must say to all the whiners, shut up.

We got an awesome product at a price that was well worth it. If it wasn't worth $600, why'd you buy it at that price.

I'm also very excited about the price drop. At $400, this thing is going to be HOT. I'm really glad that a lot more people are now going to get to experience the phone that has improved my life so much.

Also, I'm excited that this can only result in even larger market share gains for the Mac. More consumers = more Software developers = more competition for Mac software dollars = cheaper software prices & more companies looking to hire me.

iPod Touch is Perfect

16GB is no problem for me really.
I have 528 songs, 10 hours of movies from youtube and limewire, and 2 hours of TV shows from iTunes, and that totals up to only 9 GB. Seeqpod for the iPhone is going to work for the new iPod I'm sure, and I'm probably not going to sit and watch full-length movies on my iPod. That's what Front Row is for.

This iPod is all I've ever wanted since I got my first 3g 15gb iPod. If my check is big enough on Monday, I will be preordering this.

So was it that it didn't sell as well as they expected or is it because of the new iPods?

I bought mine full price on June 30th and now 2 months later i can get it $200 cheaper. I'm pretty pissed off...

haha i laugh at you idiots who say you're going to file a law suit. go ahead and waste money on legal fees.. its a lot more than your $200. and the judge will laugh you out of court.

You children need to stop whining. I stood in line and purchased it on the first day. Am I angry? No, the prices of things go down, the iPhone price went down a little earlier than expected. Nothing to get your collective panties in a bunch over.

Nobody made you guys get an iPhone. Tech hardware falls in price/gets updated so fast these days it's not even funny.

Besides, you bought a Rev. A model. What did you expect? That's a bad idea for any kind of electronic device.

On top of that, how much did you lose? $200? If you're out spending $600 in the first place on a PHONE it sounds like you don't have a huge concern for how much money you throw at a company anyway.

The premium for buying a 8GB iPhone before September 5: $200

The chance to use your iPhone on a busy street while attracting leery glances from a crowd of onlookers for a two month period: Priceless!

:)

I'm with you. I paid the tax, but not in nearly as painful fashion as other Rev. A products. The PowerBook 1400 and original clamshell iBook come to mind as "regretful Rev. A" purchases.

I still love the product. 10% price drop over the lifetime costs of the contract (reasonable ownership lifecycle) isn't much at all.

How many of you "iPhone 600" users will continue to drop money into the ITMS (now with ringtones!) over the next two years? Yeah, I thought so...

Get over yourselves...I did.

Hope this explains the earnings guidance

Like every other iPhone owner here I am very disappointed with this. I expected a price drop but not 33% in 60 days. A $100 drop would have been significant, they didn't need to do this for months.

My only hope is that the reason they guided earnings lower this quarter due to 'product changes' is related to a rebate they will offer existing iPhone users.

This is the first time I would say that I would consider not buying Apple going forward as they should be looking after their early adopters a little better than this. Nobody will trust their first gen pricing after this, at least a rebate would indicate that they just got the pricing wrong, they didn't deliberately set it to screw the early adopters.

******** im sooo ****ing pissed right i just had to bite the apple now look were ****ed good looking out apple

iphone:mad:
macbookpro
macpro-2.66=6g ram:eek:

i have them all and feel more ripped about a phone go figure:mad:

OMG you people are SO stupid!
Flaming Apple for cutting the price of the iPhone and dropping the 4GB model? Just because you made the CHOICE to buy your iPhone right away you lost your money. How is this Apple's fault?
If you had waited, like a lot of people have, you would have bought an iPhone at a discounted price - I mean, you knew it was coming sooner or later!
I'm in favor of the price drop.

I need to know as quickly as possible, so I can pounce, ;) , What is going to happen with the 4GB iPhones. Are they going to be on sale @ a lower price? :apple:

I didn't buy an iPhone early on and in fact I had decided not to get one simply based on the price point. I am in need of a new phone, my contract just ran up a week ago so now I probably will purchase one.

My fiancee is more of a gadget nut and bought one on launch day. She's rather upset and it's understandable. Everyone knows there is a premium to be paid for being an early adopter. However, normally prices on a $500-600 item would drop perhaps a $100 after 6-9 months at the earliest. Dropping the price $200, a third of the total price, after only two months is unreasonable.

Especially, considering that Apple knew at the time of the iPhone launch that these new iPod products were in the pipeline. They knew they'd have to create a reasonable pricing structure for these products to coexist. I can't see a situation in which Apple execs didn't know ahead of time they were screwing over the early adopters - the ones who deal with the early kinks and show off their products to others.

This will generate a lot of negative PR as it should. Apple should address it by offering early iPhone buyers $100 gift card to iTMS or Apple Stores, I think that is reasonable for all parites, or something similar. Why did they even launch the 4 GB model?

This was a very poor move for Apple.

Wot a bunch of crybabies...

Relax everybody!

New technology always fluctuates on price, and if you didn't EXPECT this, then you were diluting yourself. The price dropping entitles none of you to a discount - you purchased it at the advertised price, and if I recall, were all more than willing to do so. Now it's cheaper: so what.

DON'T BUY NEW PRODUCTS if you hate it so much.

Buncha whiners...

(in fact, it sounds like most people happily paid the $600)

You are exactly 100% right.

Bought the iPhone on the first weekend. It's been a great time having it over the last couple of months. Very happy with it. The cut in price is normal and driven by business. That's how you grow your market share.

If you bought in the last week or so I'd have some feeling for those folks. But they can probably return it pay a restocking fee and get a new one for less.

If you can't afford to be one of the early adopters on a product then stay out of the game. In the real world, prices fall as volume increases.

Look if that basic economic structure eludes you, complain to Shrillary and your socialists candidates. They can't fix it (like government in most things) but they will listen to you and tell you how correct you are for feeling oppressed.

And then they will take Apple's $$$ political donations and laugh at you later.

I don't think it is that the margins are so high so much as Apple is making a profit on each iPhone IN ADDITION to profiting off of the subscriptions (whereas usually phone makers sell at a loss and make it back on the subscriptions).

Additionally, Apple has put a RIDICULOUS amount of money into R&D for multitouch; I expect they intend to use it in far more than just the iPhone. Could it be that the iPhone has made enough money to pay for the R&D costs and Apple can afford a smaller profit now?

I understand the frustration but I'm amazed that people are so angry about Apple making something cheaper. It's a good thing! You knew what you were paying when you bought the device, and you obviously thought it worth it.

I was unwilling to pay $600 for a phone. I might be able to get a refurb iPhone at a price I can afford now.

I wonder, is this an attempt to make it more affordable to be the "every one's phone" or is news of the sale rate that analysts have been making is off and sales are flattening out?

ouch!

but in the bigger scheme of things, I almost got slammed by a truck this afternoon while biking ... but I didn't.
Happy to be alive to bike, breath and enjoy my iPhone.

I admit that 3 months is a short span, but even if Apple dropped the price a year from now, anybody who bought one at the original price would be upset. I would be, too. But surely we don't want Apple to keep prices high so that people who paid those prices won't feel betrayed.

40% drop, what tha ....

It's like buying a new $1,500 iMac the first day of release and then they decide to drop the price $600 bucks (40% off) in only 2 months to $900, it's only natural to feel that you got taken advantage of.
Pricks!
