I bought the 8gb iphone on day one. Can't say I'm not a little pissed off right now. For every action, there is a reaction...

To quiet the storm in here, how many ipod touch fans would be angry if they drop the price of that wonder gadget to $199 this xmas?

Stick up for your fellow apple junkies or they might not be around to stick up for you.

Not pleased.

At the same time, not dissapointed.

I have a 4GB iPhone and I've got the glamour of everyone asking me to see my "iPhone!?!!" for these 2 months. Wait, doesn't that defeat the purpose of a phone? Haha

But I have a great product to add to my timeline and for me it's different because I saw it in January at the keynote. Now I am just looking forward to buying the 160GB in the future, that way I can have all my videos and music. :)

I can't ever leave my family or culture, as long as Apple never sells out. Before you start a debate about them already "selling out", know your facts first. In the ratio of products to customers, they have released way most have wanted as well as with a good quality product.

Feel sorry for early adopters, otherwise the price drop is most
welcome.

The iphone is STILL expensive though when you factor in the
crappy 2 year AT&T service contract.

I hope your serious because I am. We really need to let Apple know how pissed off we are. I've never seen a product lowered by $200 in just a few months.

you guys need to get over yourselves.

it's a product, that is now cheaper. you thought it was valuable enough to pay the original price. now it's cheaper.

same thing happened with the razr. was horrendously expensive, then pretty much free.

also, did anyone else notice that apple's stock price went down 7$ after the keynote?

Well, I was never sold on the iPhone being worth the $600 price. Frankly I found the interface to be dazzling and incredible to use, but the phone functionality itself to be very, very lacking. Especially things like call quality, even. I'll hang on to my Nokia 6120 Classic for that.

However Apple released something that I wished they'd release since the iPhone came out, which is the iPhone without the phone! I'll probably gladly be shovelling out $299 for an iPod touch to use mostly as an (loosely) OSX-based internet tablet.

Good day for me, but I feel the pain of everybody who paid the $600 early adopter price.

I just posted this on Apple's feedback site (http://www.apple.com/iphone/share/)... wanted to share it with you... please feel free to do so. BUT... to help the cause, please make an intelligent arguement, dont just complain. Tell them your complaint, then let them know how they can make you happy and win your support again. Here is what I said:

Do the right there here, REWARD your loyal fans, not penalize them. The result is more purchases and recommendations to friends and family to purchase Apple products - which, in turn, will reward your own bottom line. I await your response.

Well it's just got a whole lot cheaper for you to gift or your friends and family to buy this wonderful product which might have failed without this timely price move! Use your head!

I brought it up before, but I'll do it again. Aperture. Just a few months after its release the price was dropped by $200. Talk to the Apple Store. A lot of people are reporting that they're getting $200 store credit. Just like what happened with Aperture.

Which do you think that Apple would rather do, give $200 credit to the, maybe, 10% of customers who are paying attention and will ask for it, or take the PR hit of pissing off so many customers?

If you're able to get $200 back from Apple, by all means do so. If you can't ... well, again, take this as yet a life lesson. Life lessons hurt, otherwise you don't learn. You shouldn't be over-extending your finances to buy technology items the day they come out!

Im starting a club... you all are invited to join... its called the I'M ******* PISSED ABOUT MY IPHONE DEAL club... dont worry... memberships are free for life... as you already paid $200 to Apple to beta test something for them.

Our first order of business... im protesting until everyone gets a $200 gift card...

Sign me up... I seriously think Apple needs to compensate people somehow. This is stupid. I don't know what is up with Apple as of recent. They screwed up royally with NBC, and now this. The PR department has some cleaning up to do right now. 1 Million Customers just got ticked off maximum!

I knew I was going to pay the "early adopter" premium...

But after only two months... this kinda smarts...

When I bought Aperture for 500.00, Apple gave us all store credits for 200.00 when they lowered the price.. maybe they'll smarten up and give all that bought directly from Apple a $200.00 credit.

crikey. I just logged on to the apple forums and they seem to be deleting complaint threads about the price drop. they are going to be quite busy:D

Sigh.

If I had known, I would have waited.

Was the 8GB iPhone worth $599? Yes, certainly, and quite a few of us thought so. Is it worth $200 to use for two months? Not even close. If they had kept the original price point for a good while like they do on iPods - I would have been happy as a lark when the first discount hit. As it stands, it's so soon that I'm thinking what else I could have done with that $200 during the previous two months.

In the future, I'm going to be much more leery of newly released Apple products.

16 pages of crying. Let's just rename this site MacWhingers and be done with it! You knew what you were getting for the money, and Apple doesn't owe you anything after that (except for obviously honoring the manufacturer's warranty, the various software updates and upgrades and all of that). If $600 was too rich for your blood, you should have waited. Try taking some responsibility for your own purchasing decisions. How much did the RAZR and Chocolate come down in price again?

Again, is this necessary? C'mon, just because you don't agree with the people who are frustrated doesn't mean you should disrespect them. The RAZR and Chocolate weren't $599, as they were much cheaper with a contract. I believe I paid $49 for mine when I signed over to Cingular last year from Verizon.

A 30+% price drop in just two months since the release of Apple's "revolutionary" product is a bit of a slap in the face to the iPhone owners who helped make it a huge success for the company.

I brought it up before, but I'll do it again. Aperture. Just a few months after its release the price was dropped by $200. Talk to the Apple Store. A lot of people are reporting that they're getting $200 store credit. Just like what happened with Aperture.

Yeah, I was one of those people. However, Apple didn't sell millions of copies of Aperture, it was mostly for a small segment of professional photographers. The iPhone was heavily touted by Apple as the next "revolutionary" device, and the price drop for the iPhone is a bigger cut than Aperture's.

and if they waited another four months i doubt many people would be blinking an eye. thats half a year on market. makes sense.

Right, but did they stop selling the telly for that half a year before the $2000 price drop? Thought so. There was prolly some poor shmuck who bought the thing like a fortnight before the price drop. So your argument has more holes than a colander, unfortunately :p

You can call us early adopters whiners if you want but personally i dont know if its so much about the money as it is a feeling of slight betrayal from a beloved company. I feel a little let down.. and theres def no reason to ever be an early adopter with these guys again. Im trying to find a sense of humor in it all so I'm putting up a picture i took of myself that day when i rushed home giddy as one of the first 10 people in town to have an iphone.

You hit the nail on the head man. The iPhone is worth as much to me now as it was the day I bought it. Two months is a very short time for a price drop. So the real hit is Apple basically saying "now that we've taken advantage of all you Apple loyalists, we'll lower the pricer for everyone else." The iPhone is Apple's self proclaimed "best iPod ever". Am I crazy for expecting a certain amount of exclusivity for spending the money on their flagship music product?

As someone who purchased their phone the day after they came out, I have to agree, that I am surprised to see the price drop to quickly. But as others have said - this stuff happens...

I bought two iMac G5's in November '05 - Intel iMac's were announced in January '06...

I bought a Powerbook G4 1.67 in November '05 as well - Macbook Pro came out in Spring of 06...

Both times, I was pretty upset. Then again - the iMac G5's are still working great. The Powerbook was replaced with a MacBook Pro in November '06, and I was able to sell the Powerbook for over $1,600, so I made out OK considering a year of use...

My iPhone is still as cool as it was yesterday, and it still works as well as before. So, what good does it do to get upset?

Was Apple planning this all along - I hope not. I suspect that they knew the price would come down, but not this soon.

For those of you who are complaining, I feel your pain. For me, it's not worth the stress. I like my phone, I knew I was going to be on the cutting edge by getting it opening weekend and by purchasing an Apple 1.0 product.

I took the gamble, and I'm fine with that.

Then again...a free/discounted upgrade to Leopard would be pretty sweet compensation...

$399 is a pretty good price.. considering its locked up to the hilt.

Should attract more customers at this price.

This is a cell phone, all phone prices drop like stones.. its reality.

Apple is a corporation like all the rest

I'm an advocate for Apple, but they just really pissed me off. And don't say it's the "price for buying a product right away" because I bought it 2 months after it released. I don't have money to throw away--I feel cheated, ripped off, and as someone else pointed out, so that I could beta test for them! I've learned my lesson--don't trust Apple any more than I do Microsoft.

Also, I am annoyed that the selection of ringtones SUCK. None of them are professional and embarrassing to use in public. Nor do I want to PAY to play a SONG as my ringtone. I don't want MUSIC, I want a professional ring like a normal business phone.

I'm amazed they can do so much yet get these details wrong. Looks more and more like they're just taking advantage of their most loyal customers.

yes, you have 14 days to return it, you most likely have to pay a restocking though.
unless you lie to them and tell them you have bad reception and want to cancel your contract and then turn around and go by and register at a different store.

Then I have to pay 175 to cancel my subscription only to get a 8gb - too much hazzle for me. I guess I will go by the store today to see if something can be arranged. Thanks!

if $200 within 60 days wasn't an unreasonable price drop, then credit card companies wouldn't insure against them.

Apple needs to come out with their answer to this ASAP so I can figure out whether I need to contact my credit card company for a refund of the difference! They really opened a can of worms with this one.

Who thinks there will be a bigger iPhone coming out soon? That would explain why they dropped the 4GB version and lowered the price.
Perhaps they didn't want to do it quite yet, so the media can concentrate on the new iPod rather than an upgraded iPhone?
