Im leaning that way as well. The only way it would work is if it was $200 towards purchases in an Apple store (that way they are really only giving up the cost of the purchased products - about 50% or $100)

Agreed! As a stock holder and early adopter, I would be PISSED if they freely gave out $200M.

As an early adopter, I don't expect anything.
As a stock holder, anything over a $50 GC is unnecessary.

Sure, if the iPhone wasn't such a new product and the price drop was over 30%. I'm not raging mad, but a huge price drop so soon after a new product release is a bit of a slap in the face to the buyers that made the iPhone a successful product...
You didn't make the product successful. Apple built a successful product you wanted. Huge difference, get over yourself.

This a great news! So, people complain about high prices and price increases (that's kind of justified)..but now, people are also complaining about price drops. What's the solution? Everything to always be free? Even then, I bet people would find something to complain about. This is what happens in the electronics market....the phone market, in particular. Prices are volatile and can drop quickly, without notice. If Apple didn't cut the price, it would have been way too much of a premium over the iPod Touch. Or, if they set the price of the iPod Touch higher, it's pricing would have been too much out of whack as compared to the iPod Classic. The pricing for all these iPod/iPhone products makes sense. I feel for the early adopters, but things like this happen...and will continue to happen no matter which manufacturer you buy from.

How could you be upset at a company for lowering prices?

Apple's forum is full of threads complaining about the price drop. It may not do any good, and as we all know the only winners are the lawyers, but I fully expect class action lawsuits over this unless Apple does something pretty fast. Not saying it is justified or not, but that I think it will happen.

Class action lawyers, ah, you mean bottom-feeders. I would think Apple and any other company that develops products can price them at whatever price they want, high or low, and to change (or not) the price as it applies to the market. IMO Apple doesn't have to do anything to make previous buyers any more "happy" than future buyers.

You didn't make the product successful. Apple built a successful product you wanted. Huge difference, get over yourself.

First, I didn't deserve the insult. Second, without the huge sales it wouldn't have succeeded. Basic fact in how the product sales work. Apple alone didn't make it succeed, it was a joint venture between Apple and the customers who bought the product. Without the huge amount of sales, it wouldn't have succeeded as well.

I bought a 4GB refurb last week...I just got off the phone with Apple and they said the best they could do was refund me $100...so I ended up paying $299. Not bad, but not great either.

If no one bought it would it make a difference how great it was? There is plently of technology that is great but does not catch on. A company is nothing without their customers and to infuriate them like this is suicide.

People are cryin' that this is unprecedented, which is bull.

Intel's fastest CPU is typically overpriced, and it drops by more than $200, usually after a month, let alone two.
The Motorola RAZR dropped by half where I live.
Cars typically vary by thousands from dealer to dealer.

People, you stood in line! You stood in line for a cell phone?!? Obviously you didn't feel it was too expensive. Even if Apple said it would be cheaper in two months, I'll bet you still would have bought it.

If you think $600 is a ripoff now, what changed since yesterday? The product you paid for is the same. So what if other people can buy it for less? Why does that matter to you?

I don't have money to throw away--I feel cheated, ripped off, and as someone else pointed out, so that I could beta test for them! I've learned my lesson--don't trust Apple any more than I do Microsoft.

This is so completly ignorent and void of logic I don't even know what to say. "You don't have money to throw away" - huh? I don't get it. What does that have to do with anything. I'm pretty sure YOU made the choice to spend 600 dollars (or whatever you spent) on a phone, not apple.

You feel cheated? Huh? There was a product, it cost 600 dollars. You willingly (and probably with excitement!) payed 600 dollars (for a 600 dollar item). When were you cheated? Apple made a profit on you, who knows how much. Apple is still making a profit. Perhaps originally production costs were higher, etc, etc, etc. Who knows. But now, they lowered their prices.

I will give you that it IS very soon after the release and I myself would deffinetly feel sad/depressed/discouraged/annoyed, but your wording is way to harsh/unfair.

Also, don't even get me started on your comment about Microsoft. Microsoft is a great company, that makes great products. So is Apple. They are though, above everything else, business oriented. In other words, they are here to make money.

That $200.00 price drop could have paid half of my cancellation fees for 2 phones when switching to ATT... i hate getting kicked in the nutz. i guess my lack of patience always gets the better of me...

For a product less than 2 months old, this amounts to a swift kick in the nuts. For me, 200$ is a significant amount of money.

I am speechless. Really poor on Apple's part. It will no doubt piss off the very loyal fan base who helped them sell 1 million phones - I hope they consider that.

It is the same device that you were happy to pay $599 for, so what is the problem. Was it not the right thing to buy when you did?

Why is it a significant amount of money now, but it was not when you bought it?

Haha! Woo! Patience IS a virtue!

I read and truly believed this as well -- so I held off on buying my iPhone. It was difficult, especially after all the initial reviews came back so positive on it. But it's always been a trend with Apple to charge the early adopters extra. If you have to have it first/now, Apple's going to make you pay for the privilege.

When I bought my Macbook Pro, right after it came out, I was put in that situation. Not long after owning it, the Core 2 Duo versions hit the shelves and with superior configurations, for what I paid for the original model. I was ok with it though - fully realizing this was a possibility. I needed a notebook A.S.A.P. though, and was ready to buy when I was ready to buy. The use I got from it hopefully justified the price penalty.

Well, now, I ordered my refurbished 8GB iPhone for $349, and couldn't be happier!

Everyone has said that the iPhone price would drop shortly after its intro and anyone who bought it would be paying a premium...

What about the folks who bought the iPhone at the AT&T Store. Are there going to be options?

I brought it up before, but I'll do it again. Aperture. Just a few months after its release the price was dropped by $200. Talk to the Apple Store. A lot of people are reporting that they're getting $200 store credit. Just like what happened with Aperture.

Which do you think that Apple would rather do, give $200 credit to the, maybe, 10% of customers who are paying attention and will ask for it, or take the PR hit of pissing off so many customers?

Don't ANY of you remember the "iPod Photo?"

Anyone?

Who is surprised by this news? It's pretty much the same story again. You all made fun of those who said "Fanboy Tax." Heck, we were just being realistic. Don't complain now!

Its actually hilarious you mention this... not only did I pay $499 for a 4 GB now "short lived" iPhone, but I also paid the severely overpriced fee for the 40 GB iPod Photo which I still use as well! Apparently I'm doomed to overpaying for Apple technology that is obsolete/a collectors item within 2 months :p...

For Apple loyalists who paid full price for the iPhone two months ago, a $200 price drop (which is huge) so soon after its release is a big deal. For those who haven't purchased the product yet, then no, you're right, it is great news.

Im REALLY glad I seriously debated buying one for about a week before I actually did. If I had ordered right when the refurbs were made available I would have been outside the 14 day price adjustment window.

...hell hath no fury...like an iPhone buyer seeing a price drop a month after purchase/release

Can anyone answer this question: does AT&T already have the new priced iPhones in stores by today? As I said some posts ago - I bought a 4gb 6 days ago. Called customer support and they told me that I can change mine for the 8gb, but have to pay a 1)% restocking fee. That means a rebate of 50 bugs + the 8gb iPhone, so I am okay with that :)

I need to go there before the end of the 14 days, but just want to make sure I do it fast, so pref. today. Thanks in advance!

Who's the fool now...

Back on June 29th I stood in line to buy an iPhone from 7am to 6pm that's 11 hours in line where the heat reached about 95 degrees in So Cal, and paid 600.00 for the iPhone.

Today some fool who has no clue what the iPhone is about about, can walk into the Apple Store and buy the same iPhone for about 400.00.

Who's the fool now...

Me Dam it!!!
