This is simple rationale, and I think it can be boiled down to this...

Apple never lowers prices in the store (unless its closeout, and then rarely) for an item. The iMac comes out at a set price, and it didn't get reduced until a new product came out. This is highly unusual for Apple to do, and I admit, as a buyer on June 29, I am disappointed. I didn't expect a price drop, as much as I expected a 16GB model to take the place of the 8GB model by now.

I would like to see Apple do something, or at least AT&T. This is unreal, and is a cause of frustration for many buyers. 1 Million of them.

I think it's kinda hilarious that everyone is so pissed at not getting a refund with the new price cut of the ipod.

Did you think that Apple was just NEVER going to lower their prices? Things go on sale everyday in the world. That's just how sales works. The milk I bought yesterday cost me $3.69 and if I had known it was gonna be on sale the next day I would have waited. But...I WANTED THAT MILK YESTERDAY, so I figured I'd pay the extra moolah then. YOU PAY TO HAVE IT EARLIER.

Same thing happened when I bought an ipod. The next week, the newer model came out and the prices were slashed. It SUCKED, so I feel ya out there. But the truth is, technology is always gonna improve and prices ARE going to go down. There's not really a good time to reduce the prices. I mean, if Apple decided to decrease the price at a later date, all those people who bought them previously would be mad too.

Apple makes an awesome product, and their customer service is still pretty good, compared to many. Just because they won't pay me the difference, still won't turn me off Apple, as I'm sure it won't turn you off...maybe down the line and you'll finally forgive them. :) Give 'em a break.

PS ninethirty, with their post 3 above mine said it best! If you had the $600 in the first place, $200 isn't really that big of deal. You pay for the pride of having something first, and you make that purchase decision probably knowing that there will be something cheaper and better later down the line.

SO just got off the phone with ATT and I explained to the lady evrything and she just read me what the computer in front of her says. That if purchased between aug 23 and sept 5 in order to get credit back you must take the orginal receipt back to the ATT store you bought it at in order to get that adjusted credit, so it seems like 1 day buys like me have no luck.

Ouch that's harsh. I wonder why they have such specific dates.

I say I'll call it even if they give me an 8 GB iPhone and a $100 iTunes gift card. :p :D

No, I just thought the price wouldn't be lowered in less time than it takes milk to spoil.

yep I guess if you bought in that bracket you will get the credit. Otherwise, no!

yea it i was wondering that too, cause when she was reading it "iphone" was the word used not "item" or "cell phone" .

I smell a class action lawsuit. They just discontinued a phone I purchased 5 weeks ago... Steve Jobs just pissed off 1 million customers who will think twice before they buy a brand new Apple product again. :-(

Err what? Hello? It's a phone. This happens to phones that are released every week. Why does this product differ?

When will people understand?

When phones get released=big bucks
2 or more months after release= price drop.

Get over it! This has happened in the mobile industry since day one! Why are you surprised!!!!!

each and every person who ran out the be among the first to own an iPhone did so under their own power and was not deceived by some evil corporate entity.

All true - bla bla bla - I just don't think :apple: typically does this kind of price drop - at least not without replacing the high-end with something new at nearly the same price point. Some of us did not run out to 'be among the first' we just have been waiting for a device like this for at least 5 years... and really did not care if the Jones' were buying one or not - we were just sick of the supposed smart-phones we've been going through for years. It's just a huge drop, and very quick, and a slap in the face to loyal customers.

The saddest part of it - it means that Apple's notion of changing the way handies are sold in this country is not quite working out as they hoped. Soon they'll be giving them away with happy meals just to make sure they get the market share they are striving for...

Just wait for an official statement from Apple and ATT regarding the credit or refund situation. Too many people have complained. They cannot ignore us forever.

Double check your AT&T Reciept, Mine says AT&T has a 30 day return/exchange policy. So the 14 day thing can't be valid if their official return policy is 30 days. AT&T may have a re-stocking policy but you may as well use their return policy against them and get some cash back. Hell I'm considering using what I saved to drop my business line and save even more in monthly fees and may come out on top if I sell my other phone.

exactly! Spot on!

And apple didn't discontinue the product just the space. I don't think any lawsuit will help. You got what you paid for now be happy!

Well they are not going to do it unfortunately. If Apple knew about this they would have made an announcement. If you didn't buy it in 14 days you get to keep it and the price stays. Sorry.

Equally pi$$ed

Apple just gave all of its biggest fans the biggest kick in the butt EVER. I waited and waited and let my Verizon plan lapse for over a year and stuck with a chinsy phone that couldn't hold a charge so I could jump on the iPhone when it FINALLY arrived. And Apple went and charged me a $200 premium for my loyalty to the brand.

I will never again be an early adopter. I will wait for OSX 10.6 before I but 10.5.9 off of Craig's list for $25.

Thanks Apple, you made a true believer a doubting Thomas.

I agree that people need to stop whining about the price decrease, its a part of living in a consumer society. But I also think that many of the posters coming down hard on the people angry about the price increase are letting their pent up jealousy show. Not everyone stood in line to be the first on their block to get the iphone so they could flaunt it to boost their self esteem, many showed up later and picked one up because they wanted one for the features it offered. It seems that many people commenting here have spent the last two months drooling over their friends iphones, wishing they could afford one so they could be the one with the cool phone to show off, making them feel better about their sad little lives.

Now you can all go and get your own and stop being so angry inside. While you're at it go ahead and pick up a Hummer, it will make your penis larger.

Here is why this is a bad business decision...

iPhone version 2 comes out, who is going to buy it until they drop the price 1/3 of the initial price?

edit 1:w00t! post 1000!!! well at least I am happy about something today.

edit 2: doh.... dropped to 999 damn you potty mouth posters!

Sorry for your loss bro, but its not Apple's fault at all in fact its you who just threw 200$ down in the sewer.

I would have paid more!

I would have paid an extra $200 for my iphone and I bought it only a month ago at the $599 price. I moved to a new city and the map feature has helped me get unlost multiple times, and I find a starbucks everywhere I go (and soon I can download their tunes!). I took pictures of myself at the zoo, watch videos while my wife shops, sms her when we're separated in the mall... I don't care that I'm just outside a two week break. I'm a little surprised at how fast the drop came, but likely nobody was buying the 4gig model so they dropped it when they ran out of stock, and now that the early adapters have adapted they can get everyone else buying them. I'm going to be excited to see more people using apple products thanks the drop, and have no problem paying more for being an early adapter. I would have paid another $200 after owning one a month now that I know how much I love it.

"No, I just thought the price wouldn't be lowered in less time than it takes milk to spoil." -- you've got some pretty chemically messed up milk if it lasts for two months without smelling off.

Ah but Apple wanted to change that remember? The reason they didn't allow Phone companies to subsidize the price was so that this WOULDN'T Happen with IPhone.

Called Menlo Park store in NJ, no luck if you're out of the 14 day period.

Come on Apple, you need to step up on this one..... just like you did with Aperture.

Edit: Seems like I am the 1000th poster in the "Boohoo! Steve Jobs slapped me mommy" thread...lolzer.....

So far, there has been too many discrepancies regarding the 14 days policy. Some stores have giving store credit to those purchased iPhone on launch day. Apple cannot justify the unfair practices among the Apple store managers. I think Apple knew ahead that they will receive complaints regarding the price drop. They are just waiting to see whether it's the majority or the minority to make an official respond. It's smart business practice, but poor customer relations and services.

Just called AT&T

Well AT&T is stating this as of NOW

any older then 14 days and you just out of luck

AT&T corp. has handed down if you bought it before aug 23 they will not refund or credit

611 told me to try and talk to the store I bought it at ( since I got it on 8/9) .. the store I bought it at told the same policy and to try AT&T corp again .....

I might try them again ....... but looks like it wont work out

UNLESS .. I return it under "buyers remorse" pay the restocking fee and turn around and buy a new one.. HOWEVER I then take the chance of losing my number. that is NOT an option for me
