$200 is a whole lot different spread across two years than it is spread across TWO MONTHS.
It's $50 a week, based on the current release/price drop. And just under $2 a week based on your calculations. That's a pretty huge difference.
I can't believe you people who got your phones on release day are asking for and getting refunds.
Apple didn't owe you anything.
So wait a second. I have read so many times that people complained that Apple:
1) Does not drop their price fast enough and that people are paying the same price for old technology
and
2) Their price drops are not enough.
So they drop their price quickly and by 33% and the complaint is they dropped the price too soon and too much.
Wow, no wonder people have such a hard time making it in this world. Get a clue people
Syncing my new 8GB $399 iPhone right now![]()
apple's image? why the hell should users care about apple's image instead of their own benefit? I know I have myself in 1st place rather than apple. This is going to be very bad for apple's image if they don't do something.
I was going to be paying AT&T the money anyways for the next 2+ years, just as I have the past 9. So, for me, the price of the iPhone was $599, not $2200. So, the price drop of $200 is 30% drop in price.
I wonder when Apple is going to drop their computers 30% 60 days after the release. I'd definitely buy a new $2400 PowerBook for $1700.

I'm sure someone brought this up....
For the people who have received a refund of $200, is it a flat $200 or is it adjusted for taxes (e.g.: $216.25, inclusive of estimated NY sales tax)?
Theoretically - say that Apple gives you a flat $200 refund without refunding the proper tax adjustment, they could claim the remaining tax dollars to the SEC/U.S. Government and say that they "issued a refund" and could receive a tax break on sales of the original iPhone price. Basically, I am saying that you should have received more than $200 for tax-adjusted purposes.
Estimation (NY Based):
100,000 iPhones sold in NY (could be higher/lower, but I'm not too sure of exact sale numbers - using 10% (decent assumption) of 1,000,000 total units sold to represent sales figures in NY)
X-amount of iPhone users x $16.25 (tax that you paid on that $200) = claim amount
100,000 X $16.25 = $1.625mn Apple netted in illegal tax-benefits (theoretically).
I am not making a FUD proposal, I own an iPhone (bought it on iDay) and I also am an Apple stockholder.
Any thoughts on this...?
please, what would you feel if you just throw $200 into the water?I'm so sick of all this crying. Macrumors is going to suck for a while because of all the people who are crying. I feel like they would have been happy if apple raised the price. How can you get mad at a company for lowering the price to make a product more affordable for consumers.

Yes it was 2 months after the original release, but its not a "punishment" like some are calling it. Get over it. its $200. Apple is trying to make people happy and make more money by lowering the price. Its unbelievable how much people complain on this site. Apple released some amazing products today and out of the thousands of posts since then, only a handful are positive comments. Apple is not a perfect company that is going to make EVERYONE happen and it has never claimed to be. Start your own company or buy a zune and a razr and stop being so negative. You people act like you and apple were dating and you said "I love you" and they didn't say it back. They are a corporation. Not your best friend or lover. Maybe they will send out complimentary tissues to wipe away the tears.
Man am i glad i didn't pony 599 for an iPhone! I mean, they are cool...but not 100 bucks a month cool.
