Actually as of today apps don't even take advantage of 2 Gb, if not for multiple tabs on Safari....
But people here has to pump up the hysteria....

I can't even purposely run out of RAM on my 6S Plus and Air 2. I'm not sure why everyone thinks they need 4GB.

Thank You, trying to make the same point.

They are the regular consumers, the one's who don't hang out on tech forums, and they don't even know what storage or ram or any of that stuff is, and they don't care. I work in wireless and when I ask someone what storage size they want on their new iPhone, the most common response is "I didn't know that there were different options."

People don't give a damn that the newest 9.7 inch iPad will start at 100 dollars more. Once you tell them that they get twice the internal storage, better speakers, a faster processor, and support for an Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, they will feel that they are actually getting a lot more for that extra 100 bucks. Personally, I don't really get the outrage regarding the 599 entry price.

Maybe in your world. I don't know any like that. All the non-techs I know choked when they paid $499, but did so because of all the iPad buzz. The people that bought the top end models were geeks like me. No, regular consumers do not pay $599 for a tablet. The go to Amazon and get a Fire for $150 or $200. In case you haven't kept up with Apple financials, iPad sales are in a tailspin because regular consumers don't pay computer prices for tablets anymore.

Good news about the iPhone SE. I was thinking it would only come with 1GB of RAM. This'll mean it might well outperform the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus as it has much less pixels to push through to the screen. Battery life might also be better because of the same reason. I am so tempted to sell my iPhone 6s and get one of these.
And even better, IT DOESNT HAVE 3D TOUCH! Glad Apple realized and admitted to it being absolutely, positively, undeniably useless.

But I'm not getting it though because I mean who wants a 4 inch screen. Hell, I might get the plus and I've got the 6s. Lol

iPad sales have been dropping steadily at the current price points. Do you think raising the price is going to increase sales?

I know this has already been discussed, but I think it has less to do with price and more to do with people not needing to refresh them very often. It's still easily the best selling tablet on the market.

4GB ram and I'd be happy. 2GB, iOS10, and iPad specific software features will severely limit this device in a year.

There's a very good reason why the 12.9 iPP gets double the RAM. The amount of pixels it has to drive is virtually double, yes double, that of the 9.7 iPP. Comparatively, the jump from the 6S+, which performs perfectly with 2GB of RAM, to the 9.7 iPP represents a 1.5x increase.

I don't think the 9.7 iPP will suffer at all from a RAM perspective.

I'm going to wait to see what the iPhone 7 and iPhone SE picture looks like in 10 months to be sure of any flaws and shortcomings, but the SE has my eye for sure now that we're sure it has 2GB. (even though the SE still feels like I'm purchasing something that was spec'd out to compete with other phones 2 years ago if I bought it at the end of March.)

Not going to bother investigating if it's worth selling the IPA 2 I have as the iPad Pro 9.7 offers nothing worth the added expense.

Seriously...? My $350 Tab S2 comes with 3GB RAM and an amazing AMOLED display that looks goegeous.

Seriously Apple these are just basic things. And it's as if Apple is stuck in the year 2011 with this disgusting 16GB base model.

I wanted to like the SE and the new pro so badly...but of course Apple had to go overboard and cheat people with awful specs that wouldn't have been competitive a year ago.

So now developers are going to have to write "pro" apps for the two iPad pros, where one has half the memory .

Or do we just get certain apps that will only work on the 12"

Please fire the bean counters and hire some people who can unite the product line, this fragmentation In search of $$$ is becoming ridiculous . And to think apple used to get up on stage and laugh at android for fragmenting thier products......

At least the 5SE can be my next phone, cause once they remove the headphone jack in the 7, I'm out.

Apple would be better off going back 4 years, keeping exactly the same product lines back than and upping the specs to 2016 like they did with the 5S.
Could you give me an example of an app requiring 2 Gb to run ? Not to speak about 4 Gb...

2gb ram? No longer interested in the iPad Pro.
Ill go buy a used iPad Air 2 on Craigslist. You messed up apple
So you'll settle down for an inferior product with the same amount of ram... Interesting...

Welp, at least people didn't need to wait for a teardown to confirm this, when people would have already ordered and received their new iPads. I can only imagine the uproar in that case.
Real people out of a nerd forum like this don't care about ram amount on iDevices...

The SE is a hell of a phone. If only the iOS team were doing such good work.
iOS 9.3 is the best iOS ever seen....

You are correct.

Though developers have to take into account that a video card can have more ram and utilise that ram to provide a better experience, that takes resources and time.

Hence someone running the same app on a 4GB model can have a better experiece , even with simple tasks as opening tabs.

The sky falling in is not apps, it's apps performing worse on the 9.7 cause apple decided to limit it too 2GB.

After the debacle of 1GB ram in my iPhone 6 Plus, I would never touch this iPad , knowing that apps will run a lot smoother on the 12"
Again, could you give me a real example of an app somewhat limited by the ram ?
Developer nowadays are targeting 1 Gb devices... 2 Gb will be fine for years.

They probably won't ever make another iPad with less than 2GB of RAM.
Considering they are using 2 Gb on the Mini 4 and on the cheapest iPhone, I think you are right.

I'm no engineer, however is it likely that the SSD in this iPad Pro is faster, along with DDR4 RAM? Therefore, making a large amount of RAM unnecessary for "Pro performance", no?

Yeah, I don't really use 3D Touch. The only thing I'll miss (if I do get the SE) is the cursor and trackpad movement with 3D Touch.

Then shouldn't the pro jr. get double the ram of the se? Based on that?

The pro jr is more in line size wise with the ipad pro than the se.

Makes me wonder if the next generation Apple Watch (Pro) will come with a protruding FaceTime Camera and an underclocked S2 chip.

Hmm a little bummed out about this, but then I still think it will be better than my iPad Air.

I know it will be better than my 32GB Air, which I paid $599 for on Launch day. I skipped the Air 2 because it wasn't worth the upgrade.

Upgrading my iPad Air to the iPad Pro 9.7 will get me:

• 4 Speakers
• Double the RAM
• Touch ID
• Wider color display
• Several other screen upgrades (Fully laminated, Antireflective coating, etc.)
• A9X Processor
• 2.4x faster CPU
• 4.3x faster graphics
• A better camera w/ many new features (4k video, Slo-Mo etc.)
• A camera flash (which I will often use as a flashlight)
• Bluetooth 4.2
• Smart Connector (even though I'll never use it)
• Pencil Support (even though I'll never use it)

It's that way in my world also, that includes 2 different countries.

"The people that bought the top end models were geeks like me."

So you are saying they bought the ipad model from the year before? If not it's not the same thing, they still bought the new model which this "pro" is and the air 2 is the year and a half old model. Nobody is saying anything about buying the highest storage. IN order to make your point of going with the cheapest they would have had to pass on the new one for the secondary model. I have not heard of any instances where the secondary model outsold the newest one.

Yes and no. Tablets as a category is a shrinking market. iPad is the marketshare leader of specific brands but 75% of the market belongs to low-priced PC and Android models.

Whether people don't need to refresh them or don't want to, it's a problem for Apple if it wants to sustain the brand. An effort to entice buyer is sorely needed otherwise it will wither on the vine like the iPod. Saying the iPad is ideal for Windows switchers is not a viable marketing strategy.

Fortunately, I just picked up a iPad Pro 12.9 with $100 off from bestbuy. Now, I do not have to worrt my big Pro outdated as others complained yesterday.

Is 32 GB enough? I have an iPad Air 2 128 GB LTE, and I just used 20.4 GB (93.4 GB available)

Just a quick question... I know everyone is kicking up a fuss over the 2GB RAM... can anyone quickly explain in simple terms the massive difference that the iPad will have now that it's with 2GB rather than 4GB?

Sorry, I'm not really sure what you are trying to say, but no, that isn't what I'm saying. I'm saying they bought the entry level and never considered anything else. I'm saying they bought iPads for the first few years they were available because of the buzz but then stopped. And the sales data backs this up.

One year ago the iPhone flagship had 1 Gb of RAM ... Today the iPad Pro is doomed because it has 2 Gb of ram.
Only on MacRumors this hysteria can exist.
As an iPad Air owner, apple's RAM usage is VERY important to me.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...

I prefer tech on the cheap, which is very difficult to do with Apple. I will continue reading sites/forums on my Air, and constructing comprehensive responses on my computer.

I was all set to replace the Air, with this 9.7 "pro", but certainly not now. I was expecting 3Gigs or RAM, to be honest. I knew apple could not possibly match the RAM in the big boy. But 2Gigs? At a higher price that they were selling the Air2 for? Remove the camera all together, and give me a better user experience.

Just sad. But at least there is one given, other than Apple intentionally gimping their product lines, to push folks to the higher priced products - and that is YOU applauding every move they make. You fought me on the RAM issue with the Air for weeks/months. I produced videos of two tab refreshes on the Air(no other apps even started), and yet you still claim RAM is never an issue.

There seems to be confusion here. Choosing the secondary model, which the air 2 is at a year and a half old, over the new pro would be like choosing the ipad 2 or whatever the secondary model was when the air was being sold, over the air. Most people want the newest model.

If you are talking about storage than I agree. Most do not have a clue on storage and just buy the cheapest of the newest model.

The pro, no matter how it is promoted, will seem like the next step in 9.7 tablets. I don't believe for a minute there will be an air 3. People will move to it and having "pro" in the name will influence a number of the ones that know nothing about specs.

I agree with a lot of people on the "buzz". But......

1. There are a lot that will upgrade just because it's apple. Probably not in the numbers as before but it will still happen.

2. A lot of those will have no clue about specs. New version, and pro model will be enough.

Sorry, but there are a lot of people out there like that.
