Some of the stuff I will stay with. I got rid of my iphone and went to the moto x pure. I like it a lot better, in a phone I like android. Will look if I want to go 6s plus after the 7 comes out. Right now I love android for my phone and it runs excellent. I didn't care for marshmallow so went back to lollipop as I like it a lot better.

Ipad. I went to an nvidia shield for a while and I don't think android tablets are ready. Back on the ipad. Might consider windows in the future but when it comes to tablet right now it's hard to bet an ipad, well at least the air 2 and mini 4.

OSX. I like the ui of osx a lot and I like running both systems, osx and windows 10, but don't know what the future will bring. Hopefully it will be a couple of years before I decide.

So while I am kind of straddling the brands nothing is cut and dried.
It's just frustrating. Apple phones absolutely destroyed anything on the market for a long time. Not all Android models are equal so I can't speak for the entire market, but IMHO there are just so many phones that offer so much more for so much cheaper. Apple seems to be releasing a lot of hardware that is just sub par and then trying to sell us on software ecosystem. That's pretty much standard Apple procedure. But when you look at the Android store and see the same top apps, you kinda scratch your head. There isn't much that is exclusive and without a peer in the Android world. It's just kinda baffling when you take a step back.

Question: in a blind-test with everything but the screen covered up - would most people be able to tell the difference between A9x w/ 2GB RAM, and A8x w/ 2GB RAM?

Multicore score wise A8x isn't far off A9x due to the tri-core config; okay the single core performance is different and file /RAM performance difference will be probably noticeable.
Probably not, but by iOS 11 you will be. RAM is usually what has been killing older iOS devices with newer versions of iOS. The flash ram is faster on the newer devices vs the Air2, but since the Air2 and Air3 are both brought down by USB 2.0 it won't make much difference.

I was dead set on placing an order for a loaded 256gb Air 3 with LTE, but the 12.9 is looking better now as it's much more future proof with double the ram.

Yea, I have no problem with android's apps, etc. With the tablet though there were a lot of apps not optimized for tablets. Kind of like tablets are the red headed stepchild of android. The pure I have is half the price of a 6s plus and I like it better than ios. I don't like marshmallow so son't know where that is going.

I mostly use the ipad for playing around, games, etc. and just surfing the internet. Possibly a chromebook in the future and dropping ios completely as I was going to do with the shield. I'm running a mac mini, will have to see if they keep messing up that line or not or even if they keep it. If they drop it and the macbook air line then I am priced out of mac's.

This is sad, I TOTALLY understand why lots of posters are disappointed. I was considering the iPP 9.7 until this news was leaked. I mean seriously, how can Apple call this an IPP with only 2gb of Ram? So that means my iPA2 is sorta "PRO" because it has the same 2gb of ram??? My bad, I meant my IPAD AIR "PRO" 2! Whats up with Apple these days??? SMH o_O:(

This sucks, with 2GB ram his is just an iPad Air 3, with pencil support.

I don't mind the underclocking, though selling a device as pro, with 1/2 the ram.....

Imaging the iPhone 6S plus getting 2Gb and 6s getting 1GB ram.

Apple is pulling a fast one here. The 12" with the 256GB is the true pro iPad, and I feel sorry for the early adopters who a few months ago almost paid the same for 128GB. Poor form Apple !!
The 128 gb ipad pro is still a true pro in my book...I have over 1 TB of cloud space from various cloud providers and don't even touch my ipad pro memory...thanks ;)

It works well, for now. I fully expect Apple to implement new "pro" software features in iOS10, and this will begin the slow down of the devices with only 2GB of ram. For me, I don't mind necessarily buying a new iPad every two years, but I don't think they should be considering this a "pro" machine with the same amount of ram as the cheapest iPhone.
One year ago the iPhone flagship had 1 Gb of RAM ... Today the iPad Pro is doomed because it has 2 Gb of ram.
Only on MacRumors this hysteria can exist.

I really don't need another phone, but the SE is sounding really good .... I don't use 3D Touch on my 6S+ as it is ....

If only the 64gb was €450 and not €599 here, I'd let my impulsiveness rule my wallet. As it stands I don't need - but desire.

You and me both

Completely underwhelmed with the 9.7 pro. No USB 3.0 chip (even if there isn't much in the ecosystem to support it). 2 gb of RAM for a pro device? Same as my iPhone 6s? Seriously?

I would just like to know who the ******s are that are using the camera on the iPad, because I don't think I've really ever used it on any of my iPads. if Apple was going to spend a little more on the 9.7 Pro, the camera would be my least important upgrade.

I'm going to be keeping my iPad Air in service for another upgrade cycle. The Pencil and Keyboard really doesn't expand my use cases for a new device and the hardware is lacking. I do like the idea of a 256gb iPad, but not with USB 2.0 speeds. I think it's also telling that while the larger pro gets a new cable that will allow for faster charging, the 9.7 isn't supported.

I can understand that. I am glad there is another choice. If I had small fingers I would consider it a viable choice, however I have thick fingers and have problems with 5.7" phones. Seriously. Sometimes I think 6 or larger would be better for me. Rhumatoid Arthritis doesn't help either.

Yeah, here's hoping that Apple will make an even bigger phone than the iPhone 6s Plus some day.

Ick! Well since they gimped on the 9.7" Pro RAM, I may chug along with my 4 year old iPad3 for another year. That will hurt it in the long run...

Your logic seems to be flawed. "I'm not going to buy an iPad that is a vast improvement, in every way, on the one I've been using for four years because the specs don't match a more expensive iPad that I never intended to buy."

Don't forget the price hike on the Pro, you can get an Air 2 for $200 less now. And 1GB of RAM was pitiful on the iPhone 6. iPad sales are steadily decreasing and this new Pro isn't going to change that IMO. The average Apple consumer will buy the Air 2 instead.

Who are these "most people" that are going to look at the old price of the Air 2 and say, hey, I only have to pay $100 more for really negligible upgrades other than pencil support and grin like they won the lottery?

They are the regular consumers, the one's who don't hang out on tech forums, and they don't even know what storage or ram or any of that stuff is, and they don't care. I work in wireless and when I ask someone what storage size they want on their new iPhone, the most common response is "I didn't know that there were different options."

People don't give a damn that the newest 9.7 inch iPad will start at 100 dollars more. Once you tell them that they get twice the internal storage, better speakers, a faster processor, and support for an Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, they will feel that they are actually getting a lot more for that extra 100 bucks. Personally, I don't really get the outrage regarding the 599 entry price.

I am just assuming that you're seeing most of the Android Flagships also have protruding cameras, such as the S7 I have sitting on my desk.
Yes but less then the iphone for that specific model, but il probaly take one thats not protuding at all.

Yeah, here's hoping that Apple will make an even bigger phone than the iPhone 6s Plus some day.

The problem with that is the 6s plus at 64gb costs about 1100.00 us here so a larger phone that costs over a hundred more only puts another phone unaffordable to me. The 6s 64gb is about a thousand and a 16gb phone would not be near enough.
Only 6% of the people here have apple products and that's any apple product. I never see any and that's because even older models still being sold are expensive.

The se may make some difference but I pretty much never see anyone with a 4" phone so who knows. The price is not up for it but even the 16gb is 400.00 which is really not bad, but it will probably be between 5 and 600.00 here and only a small percentage of people, something like 10%, have contracts with their phones. Most save up and buy the phone then pay as you go for maybe 10.00 or less us a month. That or buy through coppel, etc. Where they tack several hundred in interest to the phone.

Just noting why apple is out of the reach of most here.

SO, this new Pro:

1. Has less memory (2gb for a productivity device??)
2. Slower USB despite having a better camera
3. Camera wart

Remember when Apple made the very best devices they could within the constraints of best technologies and economics?

This device feels like it was dreamt up on some MBA spreadsheet.

I'm an intense iPad user at the office, but leaning towards skipping this upgrade.

I'm more happy that it has 2gb of RAM so I don't hear the incessant complaining. :)

Yeah, cuz it's 2GB of Pro RAM.

iPad sales have been dropping steadily at the current price points. Do you think raising the price is going to increase sales?

The Air 2 is terrific. But if I'm going to dish out "Pro" dollars, then I want a comparable device. 2GB RAM guarantees that I'm not going to dish out "Pro" dollars. The sad part is that Apple quietly discontinued the 128GB Air 2 yesterday. Thankfully that's the one I bought last Fall, but I was hoping to perhaps buy another for my wife.

You Can still get a 128 Air 2 from most major retailers or through apple refurbished.

for a pizza? for what? wait, I don't really need to know.
Lol. I guess I wasn't clear. An SE for my son. Wife seems to want one too to replace her 6s. Part of me wonders if she should just get this and the boy can receive the 6s. Won't matter to him what he gets lol.

MOST Apple product consumers are pretty UN-EDUCATED about tech. I mean seriously, they open their wallets out without even first knowing what's on the inside of that iGadget they are purchasing. That's what Apple marketing wants you to believe - they tell you things just "work" and you don't have to worry about specs, blah blah blah. The last time I bought a car I made sure what the engine size was, how much HP/Torque, if it was AWD/4WD and if it had torque vectoring.

You guys really need to educate yourself about products you are buying. There is a reason why RAM is important. 2GB of RAM for an iPad no matter how efficient iOS is still sets limits on app/system performance. The next iOS 10 comes out don't come back here and complain about how you should've had more RAM.
And you must be the educated customer, right ?

I understand the idea of "future proofing", but honestly, I doubt that many people need more than 2GB of RAM on an iOS device.
Actually as of today apps don't even take advantage of 2 Gb, if not for multiple tabs on Safari....
But people here has to pump up the hysteria....

Only you're not getting twice the internal storage. Your getting half of what you would get on an Air 2 at $499.
