The SE just got a little more tempting for me. I have been holding on to an iOS 6 iPhone 5 - still in perfect condition, so I should be able to actually profit by upgrading!

I can't see there being an Air 3. The Air 2 will probably be the last with the Air moniker, and it should be very useful for years to come. Why would they release an Air 3 this fall and how would it be different from this Pro especially if you want Pencil support?
Which makes even less sense that they would put the memory of the cheapest phone in a pro tablet.

To put 1gb of ram in it? I don't see another one ether. The "pro" was a way to come out with a new ipad successor AND charge more money.

Lol... Yeah, I agree... it doesn't make sense. But we all go crazy about smartphones each year.. upgrading each year or every other year. When we honestly can get by for 4 years or even longer. But we are all fanatics about these gadgets we consume.

The phones have gotten out of my price reach though and the se is too small for my big fingers so that part has probably come to a close for me. Will have to see on macs and ipads though, still have those.
4GB is actually unbelievably amazing on the device. I've yet to have it crash or spaz out despite having 10+ safari tabs open, music, procreate, photos, notes, phonto, and Facebook all running at the same time and it didn't skip a beat.
This actually really sucks that Apple put 2GB in their "Pro" device. Not to be a jerk, but it makes me a little happier about my iPP purchase, but I know a lot of you wanted a smaller but just as capable iPP.
I honestly think Apple's quality of products and customer support/sat has gone out the window since 2014.

Yes, Amazon really drove the tablet market to the bottom. I spent some time setting up a Fire for my mom and it is a decent tablet that does the majority of what people use an iPad for, Internet browsing, light gaming, reading etc.... The premium that you are paying for the iPad is speed, access to the App Store, nicer fit and finish, but the basic capabilities are similar.
We'll easily find out for sure, but I see almost no reason why that would be true. There's no big additional RAM gobbling feature on the Pro. Unless the Pencil somehow spawns its own process that gobbles tens of megabytes of RAM (and I seriously doubt it does). The third core isn't going to make up the difference either, because we already know the A9X is faster in multicore than the A8X. E.g. 200 + 200 is more than 100 + 100 + 100.
By your standard, the 12" iPad Pro is just a revamped Air 2 that's bigger. In fact, I challenge you to compare any two devices and not be able to come up with a boringly simple way to describe the difference. The 2013 Mac Pro is just the 2012 Mac pro compressed into a cylinder with the PCI slots removed!
Because numbers are better when bigger and people feel entitled to the biggest of numbers.
Yea, my elderly mother has one also and loves it. It browses the web and allows her to check her email fine.
I can't see getting her anything more.
And the more amazing part about the iPad pro 12.9 is that 3.89 gb of that 4 GB ram is usable ram.....

Yes and a 64gb air 2 at 599(which is what it has been priced at for 2 years until yesterday) has crappy speakers, a 2 year old processor, and no pencil support. I'd gladly take 32gb with those new features.
Tried a tab s2 and quickly returned it. It can't hold a candle to the tablet experience that you get on an iPad. The android tablet experience is still a nightmare. Tried the note 5, the surface pro 3, and many other android and Windows devices and they all fall short of the experience you get on an Apple device. Apple has never competed on specs, but they've always had a better user experience. That was the case in 2010, and it's the case now.
Samsung can put 8 gigs of ram in the note 6 but it's still not going to run as smoothly as an iPhone.

Agreed! I'm the same with buying 32gb and the new features! Upgrading from iPad Air, so also getting all the upgrades I missed from Air > Air 2!
Same! At first the only thing I was kind of disappointed was the USB 2.0, but now only 2 gigs of RAM is a major let down. Now I don't even feel like buying the 12.9" pro because the screen improvements of the new 9.7" and camera improvements are bound to arrive. SMH Apple. If they put in USB 3.0 and 4 gigs of RAM I would have 99% bought this iPad as my first iPad. Now its unlikely.
I don't understand why people want to sell their iPhone 6S and get SE instead. Don't they realize that the screen is smaller?

Exactly, had it not been revealed that the 9.7 ipp only has 2gb of ram, no one would have even known. The device will perform just fine with 2gb of ram.
Are you sure about the free/used memory on the IPP...
I know if i check my devices with the smart memory app (like right now), my 6S is running at 75% of 2GB used and the 5S phone is at 95% of 1GB used with no apps open!!
iOS needs a diet and some better memory management..

Logically smaller devices always have better screens especially if you buy the latest and greatest. The iPad pro 12.9 has the better resolution and the exact same ppi as the pro 9.7, true tone is nice and all but it does not make such a drastic difference as some have made it out to be, the iPad pro 9.7 did not get a resolution bump or an increase in ppi so for those expecting the screen to have this crazy wow factor forget it. I agree, but people are appear to be implying that performance will be horrible, which is simply not the case. I think it was a cheap move by Apple, but it doesn't make the device crap.
My Air 2 absolutely flew and this device is 2x as fast. I won't be too quick to update the iOS version it comes with so I think this will last me for years.
Can't way too see a bill of material regarding iPhone SE and read again smart comments about how much Apple put an effort on R&D on this product
Same here man, but you might as well wait now because it's been out since I think September and has already reached half it's life cycle. Maybe this year the 12.9 will get 3d Touch… b/c we already know it is going to get the screen improvements of the new 9.7 inch pro. THe increase in price but half the RAM leaves me in disgust loll
