I can't justify $200 for this over the Air 2 I'm sorry. I'm sure others can but if you use it mostly for web browsing and playing around in a few apps then no, just no.

I would get this 9.7" Pro, but I already have the larger Pro and love it. I'm sure others don't already have a 13" Pro, but if you do, and that's the right size for you, then no, just no.

P.S. I wouldn't eliminate the speed and screen benefits of the Pro just because your only uses are the Internet and apps... that pretty much covers everything.

Is it really a major upgrade though? I can't ever remember a moment where my iPad Air 2 has slowed down for any reason and it's a blue moon when it crashes. Might be a major upgrade for users who want to spend more to add the pencil or keyboard accessories. As for me, I'd love to use the Pencil, but since I want to do a ton of creative stuff with it moving forward, I'm just going to wait until the next version. Hopefully by then they can match the RAM of the bigger model which will allow for more advanced creative apps, and Apple will provide an advanced software experience in iOS X for Pro users who deal with projects that have many components. Let us hope!

I could get this but shouldn't I just get the Mini 4 instead? Save money?

I always loved the idea of the Mini and think it's great for games, but found text was too small.

If you don't plan on using the Pencil, the speed improvements don't matter to you, and (most important) if you prefer the 7.9" form factor than I'd get the mini.

If it's just about money, I'd get the Air 2 for its notably faster processor.

I think so. The screen alone is worth it to me, which is essentially everything in an iPad. The speed and speakers are a huge improvement and pencil/keyboard support is just an add on in my eyes. The 2GB of ram is a non issue as the 12.9 only needs it to store the higher resolution images. Performance is the same. If the 9.7 ever struggles, the 12.9 will do the same because of the increased resolution.

I'm glad everyone's enjoying their new device, but personally I don't think it's a must have upgrade for the Air 2 users. :)

Edit - the only regret I have over my first iPad is choosing the 16gb model, what in the world was I thinking! (Impulse Christmas buy)
It is if you want pen support.

Some prospective buyers were concerned about the protruding rear camera on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro as it could potentially prevent the tablet from laying flat on a surface, but many report that is not the case.

"The camera sticking out doesn't affect it's ability to be stable while laying flat. I usually use a foldable stand with my tablets so it's a non issue for me.

So is it a non-issue if you don't usually use a foldable stand?

OF COURSE it's a huge improvement over an iPad Air 2... It's almost a 2 year difference! Try an iPad 4 vs iPad Air 2.

All that the 'pro' is is a way to get more money. Don't release an iPad Air 3, then release a Pro instead of Air 3 for maximum profit margin.

I'm almost at the point of saying '**** Apple'

I stopped by the local store yesterday for a compare with my Air 2. The screen is a little better, but that's about all there is for me; I don't need to speed, speakers, flash, or pencil support. I don't like True Tone; I'd rather have a neutral and consistent screen color (I hate auto white-balance on cameras, too). The camera upgrade doesn't do much for me, either; if I need a better camera than the Air2 or 6 Plus, I'll switch off to my DSLR.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Apple, you are no different than websites that love to spam people with ads. You need to stop selling same products every 6 months.

LOL. I have no idea why Apple is living rent free in your head, but keep it up! So hilarious, thanks for the laughs. Don't get people who waste time bashing a company. Really sad. Must be an empty existence.

Rooting against Apple is like rooting against a Football team that wins titles every year. Pretty sad.

The question is what Apple will do with the standard iPad now we have this. They're obviously gonna hold back features for future iPad Pro upgrades. Or will the 9.7" iPad Pro become the 'standard' iPad eventually?

I believe they'll drop the "Air" moniker so that the line is iPad Mini > iPad > iPad Pro. The "iPad" probably just becomes the 5C/SE of the iPad line?

Correct. Same for iPhone and potentially MacBook also. I see the "iPad" as their future vision of the tablet. Kind of like what they did with the MacBook.

It's about The Pencil.

And in my initial testing, the iPP 9.7 seems to be more responsive when using the pencil. Apple's Notes App has always felt great, with no lag at all, but the other drawing apps I use seem to be very similar as compared to the larger iPP.

I saw a tiny bit of lag with Adobe Sketch for example, but it doesn't seem to be there on the iPP 97. More testing is in order, but again, this device is about the pencil and maybe the better camera. Game changer once you pair that little, much mocked device to the table. When you touch the tip to the surface of the tablet, the magic begins.

I am only going to use the iPad for Word and a few apps, do you think the mini is suitable or the Air 2/Pro 9.7

The 9.7" iPad Pro is my first iPad. I've long sought something to fill the gap between my phone and iMac, since I hate notebooks. (Nothing personal—just I'm used to desktop OSes on my huge 27" display.)

I'm sold. The iPad actually fills that gap. It's impressive.
Yeah I hate laptops too. iPad Pro is really brilliant. 12.9-inch version for me.
