I'm glad everyone's enjoying their new device, but personally I don't think it's a must have upgrade for the Air 2 users. :)

Edit - the only regret I have over my first iPad is choosing the 16gb model, what in the world was I thinking! (Impulse Christmas buy)

I have an iPad Air and I'm not enticed to upgrade. Guess I'll hold out for the next iteration. All they needed to do was keep the price at $500 or at least include the pencil at the higher price.

LOL. I have no idea why Apple is living rent free in your head, but keep it up! So hilarious, thanks for the laughs. Don't get people who waste time bashing a company. Really sad. Must be an empty existence.

Rooting against Apple is like rooting against a Football team that wins titles every year. Pretty sad.
Nothing sad but to the ones who denies reality. Keep it up!

Previous iteration of the 9.7" iPad came to market in the fall of 2014 - hardly every 6 months.
The first three generations of 9.7" iPads were released in spring (original iPad, iPad 2, 3rd-gen iPad aka retina iPad), the next three in autumn (4th-gen iPad, iPad Air, iPad Air 2). The time between releases was one year except for the 4th-gen iPad which was release only 6 months after the 3rd-gen iPad (but that refresh was essentially only internal, ie, the A5X was replaced with the A6X, the Facetime camera got an upgrade and the connector was switched from 10-pin to Lightning, this release brought the processor generations in 9.7" iPads in line with the iPhone processors). The current release came after an 18 month stint of the iPad Air 2 as the top-of-the-line 9.7" iPad.

I think what is really bugging people is that Apple didn't update all size classes of iOS devices to the A9 processor generation last fall. They feel that Apple was holding back the A9-class processor from appearing in the 9.7" iPads. They see it as Apple playing games and not offering the best product they could produce to steer sales in certain directions (eg, giving the 12.9" iPad a leg up). They think Apple is disingenuous in saying that Apple always tries to make the best product possible. Of course that is largely defined as 'technically possible' ignoring that engineering and production resource limitations can delay things as can commercial considerations.

Close enough. Point being almost every year they be selling products little spec bump.
And if they don't do a yearly spec bump, people cry murder too (see Mac Mini, Mac Pro, iPod touch).

The 9.7 Pro seems to be a solid device. No issues I have with it beyond the absence of 3D Touch (Yes, a gimmick to some, but still has a lot of promise come iOS X and a whole lineup which features it). For me personally however my iPad mini 4 is the perfect size and compromise between portability and usability

I am very happy with my iPad Pro and use it for mixing music tracks, movies and videos. I use to do the same thing with my iPad Air 2, but now things have since I use the Pro 12.9. I will keep my Air 2 for other things but the Pro 12.9 it's amazing...

I am only going to use the iPad for Word and a few apps, do you think the mini is suitable or the Air 2/Pro 9.7

Performance wise, either iPad is more than sufficient. The only issue is that I find the Mini too small for text-related things. The only way for you to know that is to give it a go.

Between the Air 2 and the Pro, there isn't enough of a difference to warrant the Pro for that usage in my opinion. Of course the A9X may be able to keep up with iOS a little longer than the Air 2, but the Air 2 was (and still is) considered the longevity model. So I wouldn't' hesitate to get an Air 2 if I thought it was more cost effective.

The impressions are from forums users? many of which were already convinced it was amazing before even putting their hands on it

good reporting

Where else are you going to get reviews? From people who don't have one? From sites like the Verge? Do you really think Cnet, The Verge, and Macworld are unbiased in their reviews?

Ars Technica and AndaTech (misspelled) are probably two of the few objective places to go for reviews.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that MacRumors users can actually be quite critical of Apple devices. So if there was ever a good place to see what's wrong with a device, this would be it.

Apple needs to streamline their iPad line. Too many models. Make it all Pro and lower the price to equal the Air models. Charging more makes no sense if they want to sell more units.
I still have my iPad 2 and 4 and they work just fine. I like the big iPad Pro but not sure I want to pay $800 for the base model for it. Add the Pencil and Keyboard we are on MacBook territory as far as prices. That's too much IMO.

Apple's newest iPad Pro, the 9.7-inch model, made its way into the hands of customers on March 31, and now that a day has passed, many people who purchased the powerful little tablet have shared their thoughts on the device on our forums.

Reviews and impressions from media sites came out earlier this month, but there are always new details and small tidbits of information that come out when products see a wide release. First impressions from actual Apple consumers can also be valuable for those considering a purchase, so we've gathered up some of the details MacRumors readers have shared about the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

A thread querying users about their happiness level with the new iPad Pro suggests opinions on the device are largely positive. More than half of respondents said the device is "amazing" or a "great upgrade." While some are upgrading from an iPad Air 2 or earlier, there are buyers who traded their 12.9-inch iPad Pros for the smaller models. MacRumors reader Traverse outlined a long list of positives about his iPad Pro, highlighting the speed improvements over the iPad Air 2.

The True Tone display, unique to the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, is getting some rave reviews, but not all iPad Pro owners are fans of the yellowing of the display. Patriot24 says it's "insanely great," but BitSlap says he prefers bright and crisp whites. On the whole, most readers seem to like the feature quite a bit.

[doublepost=1459548714][/doublepost]I just bought an Air 2. I could not justify the price bump for things I do not need. But that is my personal need. I use my ipad for browsing and showing my art to people. The speed and other stuff was not worth the high price to me. But i can see how some people are going to be stoked by it's abilities. Nice to have a choice!

I updated from the Air 2.

Yes, it's worth it. Speakers are fantastic. Get to use Apple Pencil. The display is much better (less glare, True Tone display, etc...). And of course, the camera is significantly improved.

Plus, it doesn't "rock" on a flat surface.

If you have an iPad Air 2 and wonder about the upgrade, I say go for it. If you have an earlier device, it's a no-brainer.

I'm happy, but my wallet slapped me. $1,044

I'm still waiting on my $400 payment from Amazon for selling my Air 2. :/

dude tell me about it, i walked into best buy and walked out 900$ poorer due to 128gb and pencil. Then I went to the apple store and walked out ~220 dollars even more poor. I am doing a trade in on my macbook air for 560 I am just waiting for that site to get the iPad pro's in stock then I will return this one to best buy. But even after the 560 it was still a 600+ dollar move to get me off a laptop.

On that note, I loved my macbook air but don't care for laptops that much. They are just awkward unless you are at a desk and that defeats the name of laptop imo. I did my homework on my iPad pro 9.7 with it on my lap in a cramped chair today while waiting on my kid to do his martial arts stuff. I was super comfortable and split screen with safari/chrome allowed me to do my reading and posting at the same time. The keyboard is awesome, I thought wtf 150 for a cloth kb? It was worth it haha.

I see them dropping iPad Air name in the near future. Just have iPad Mini, iPad, iPad Pro.

Perhaps they' like even do this:

Release a new iPad mini with a9 2gb and a 12mp camera. Call it the iPad SE.
Call the iPad Air 2, the IPad
And keep the pro line.

So IPad SE, IPad and IPad Pro .

Just liked the iphone:

-Ihone SE, IPhone 7 and IPhone 7 Pro.

The SE will be their " budget" line, the regular line will be called IPads or IPhone or MacBook will be their mainstream line and their Pro name will make the high end premium line.

What about a 11,6 inch MacBook Air with updated internals and call it the MacBook SE.
Release a new version of the MacBook 12 inch add a 15 inch, just call it MacBook.
Release new MacBook Pro' s.

So Se, no addition and pro, throughout their entire line.

Juist wonder what will happen to the + name , like in 6(s)+
