On that note, I loved my macbook air but don't care for laptops that much. They are just awkward unless you are at a desk and that defeats the name of laptop imo. I did my homework on my iPad pro 9.7 with it on my lap in a cramped chair today while waiting on my kid to do his martial arts stuff. I was super comfortable and split screen with safari/chrome allowed me to do my reading and posting at the same time. The keyboard is awesome, I thought wtf 150 for a cloth kb? It was worth it haha.

The iPad is great for work on the go as long as I always have the option if using an OS X machine for that last bit that's too much for the iPad.

As a side note, I really like the execution of Apple's keyboard, but I don't like the feel of it. Perhaps I need to give it another go.

Hard to see how this is a major upgrade over the air 2 at all. Faster? Well sure, I'd hope so, but the air 2 is still very fast. Better speakers? A nice but minor upgrade. The new screen seems like the major feature, and that's just not enough - or even close - to justify an upgrade. Plus... That protruding camera. Why. Just why.

Audio, CPU, camera and most importantly, display are all updated, with Pencil support. Very good step forward. Looking now into more iterations of iPadOS

If I was buying and iPad today then this new model is a no brainer. Would I upgrade my Air 2 to this, absolutely NOT! My son though is in the market for one, but he is saying because they don't have a 64gb he will just wait till they have some $100 off sales around the holidays and purchase a 128gb model.

When I first read the headline, I was wondering which review sites called it a major improvement over the air 2, this is based on MR forum users.

Ars technica nailed it in my point of view.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/1...ith-all-the-virtues-and-limitations-of-ios/4/

I'm yet to experience any perormance issues that would warrant an upgrade over the air 2, im sure it's faster saying that, though everyday usability deal breaker is the protruding camera.

If I had an older device that had performance issues, I'd still be looking at the air 2, due to its price and performance (and camera). If money was not an issue, the pro.

To push sales I'd have thought apple would have been competitive with thier price, instead they have gone the other way , making It more expansive, needing accessories and being sold as a desktop replacement now. It's crazy that an ipad costs over £1k without the accessories to make it a "laptop" replacement. In 2016, the price of a fully spec'd iPad Pro with a KB and pencil is almost approaching double the price of top spec iPad at launch.....that Tim is why ipad sales are dropping, for many in 2010 the ipad was a replacement for a laptop.

really? a hundred dollars changed your mind?

100€ would be fine. The price increase is way bigger though - 570€ compared to 869€. So you should do your maths again. I do get more storage, yes. Buf I don't need and want those additional 64 GB.

so,, anyone would advise upgrade from Air 2..

I'm glad the pencil is optional extra, since it would be a waste of money for those, like me, who would never use it..

Plus, the price in Australia, is always something to consider too.

I am not sure about Air 2.. we have older iPads (1, 2, 3) and mini 2. All work flawlessly (testimony to Apple quality!), albeit not on latest software, however, only Pro now rekindles my interest in newer iPad Pro, mainly to pencil ability (because I like to draw). Probably for us, its time to consider an upgrade.. as for Airs, they are so newer so maybe thats not an option

Looks like a nice device, and I'm glad people are happy with their purchase. But personally, I'll wait for the next 9.7" pro. I can't draw, so why would I get a pencil. But the keyboard looks handier than using the magic keyboard. I always use AirPlay/BT or headphones for sound. True tone = gimmick, focus on OLED Apple! Performance improvements are always welcome, but air2 is currently fast enough for me.

The things I'm waiting for are
- 3D Touch would be good to really call it a pro. Would be great for editing in excel&word, and gaming UI. And why no support for Magic Mouse in a pro model, but maybe this is more of a IOS thing.
- OLED display to get those blacks - watching movies when not being a pro.
But perhaps it is not technologically possible to get both?

Cheers

In my old iPad Air I can editing in excel & word the main features.

I demoed one in the Apple Store today. Seems very zippy, and I love the Pencil. I currently have the first generation Air, but I was hoping for something with 4 GB of ram for future-proof reasons. That said, is the new Pro really a worthwhile upgrade from an Air?[/QUOTE

From air 1? Definitely!
Even an upgrade to the air2 would be worthwhile.
Far less reflections, a lot faster, thinner, split screen, no more room between cover glass and display(really hated that).
So upgrading from a air 1 to a pro, is definetely worth it.

Just to say. I love love LOVE all these upgrades, Been waiting since the iPad1 1st launched which I bought on launch day for a decent camera and flash to be fitted. I did not think it would take 5+ years, but we finally got there. :)

I only WANT one thing that I'm not sure people are going to get......

"What's that you say?"

Entertainment apps/Games that REALLY take full advantage of what this machine, and the bigger pro can do.
Games that run poor on other iPads as they don't have the power.

It's what drove PC's and Consoles on for years. Make software that REALLY pushes the hardware, so you need the best and latest devices to experience the "games" at their best.

Please, push the software guys.

The was my first iPad, first tablet so it's an excellent upgrade for me
This is the one I was holding out for, loads of memory, 256gb, and extremely quick and seems pretty good so far. I got the smart case and the silicon back in Space Gray, a really smart looking combo in my eyes. And most of the apps were ready to go from my iPhone back up, which was nice barring a few obvious one's that had their own iPad equivalents.

The true tone display is interesting, and definitely easy on the eyes and 'true' to life, and the speaker sound is massive. Watching Netflix and video in general is bliss... I can't see why I'd want the Smart Keyboard or Apple Pencil, but I'm sure those find a use for the relevant user. For me this is not a laptop and doesn't replace my MacBook Pro in that regard. However, if Apple 'do' decide to go that route then a device this powerful could probably handle a more OSX type interface, and they should go all in with that. With benefit of touch, and I'm sure it's on the cards. Very happy so far.

I have a question about the TrueTone Screen.

What I think Apple MUST have done, is allow the user to set the amount it changes.

Some may will a dramatic colour temperate (cold to warm) change as the surrounding light changes, others may like the effect, but not wish such a dramatic change.

So, yes full marks to Apple for adding this feature, but GIANT negative marks, if Apple are being "cocks" as usual and deciding the strength of the change and not allowing the user to alter the amount it changes by.

Can anyone clarify?
