I don't think my next iPad will me 9.7", I need the big one for painting, and I think that the 12 inch iPad is missing some features now when compared to the 9.7 so I probably will wait for the next version...

Also I hope the next generation of iPad pro will have a USB C port that supports data transfer.

I can' t wait for the iPad Pro 2 12.9. I have the first model and I like it a lot.
My MacBook hasn't t been out of the bag since I got it a week ago.

But it will all be up to software development.

-need FaceTime featuring conference call with more than one person at the time and some sort of ability to include/show documents/presentations in FaceTime.
-more apps optimized for the new res and screen size of the iPad Pro and more apps that support split screen and pip.
-iOS pro that features trackpad support and a simple finder app/file management.
-iOS pro with a gui that is more optimized for the 12.9 inch, layout is still the same as old iPads with size of the app symbols and spacing between them is ridiculous.

Hw side iPad Pro 2 12.9:
- little less bezel, and a tad thinner and lighter for portability.
-touchid second gen
-higher mp front/FaceTime camera.
-faster Soc.
-Smart Keyboard cover with a trackpad.
-display enhancements like in the 9.7 inch iPad Pro.
-I would love a 326ppi display like the iPhone and iPad mini, but probably won' t happen.
-29 watt charger included in the box.

Watch the keynote, the iPad Pro videos etc ..... Apple are pushing it hard as a desktop replacement. Sure go ahead and spend more $$$$ when a iPad Air 2 will Meet all your needs.....
I agree it's silly to start to push iPad as either a MacBook or a PC or iMac replacement, or whatever at least until they have a desktop standard OS such as OSX however customers new to an iPad want the newest tech if it's within their means, and sorry, but it's clearly superior to an iPad Air 2 even if it's no laptop / desktop replacement.

I noticed your signature and I see all the iPad variations you own, so I see why you'd expect a significant upgrade to want to jump ship a 6th(?) time, however to suggest I'd want legacy hardware pushed on me, for example, as a customer new to iPad as if it suits my needs just fine is unrealistic.

We all have phones that most likely take better pics.....
Why on earth would I pull out my phone to take pictures to add into my iPad workflow? My DSLR takes better pictures than my phone, why would I use my phone when I have my camera? Why wouldn't I just use my phone when an opportunity arises as I am walking down the street? Tools for the job and all that...

The concept is not difficult, if you want t turn the iPad Pro into laptop replacement, the accessories are needed! I like how forum members choose to ignore he key aspect of the iPad Pro that apple is pushing.
Just because Apple is selling doesn't mean one needs to buy it. People already had the parts to laptop up their iPads if they wanted. An iPad can still unabashedly be an iPad.

to play with the new iPad pro 9.7 and the iPad Air 2 side by side. Honestly I couldn't justify the extra expense of the pro. So I bought an iPad air 2 64gb and honestly it's awesome for what I need. And I saved a whole bunch of money. For me the reduced price on the Air 2 was a nice incentive.
Absolutely this! This is why the Air2 is in the product lineup. Congratulations on your new device.

i'm still using my iPad Air 1, and have no plans to upgrade my iPad anytime soon
Good plan. I upgraded from an Air 1. Although the speed, sound, and camera upgrades are noticeable, they are not a transformative experience. The Air 1 is still a very respectable device, it is smart not to upgrade for the sake of upgrading, IMO.

Thinking about it, I also have every iPad except the Air2. They all, even the original, still get used by the family. Maybe just as a media player/web browser, solitaire machine, but still. To my way of thinking, each had a significant reason to upgrade, except for the Air 2 IMHO. I kind of wonder how the people that went from an Air 1 to an Air 2 (elsewhere in this thread) can possibly feel short shrifted on going from an Air 2 to a 9.7 pro? To my eyes, they have the same degree of feature separation. -shrug-

Oh, so now the problem is that Apple is using marketing to sell its products. Since their marketing is irresistible that is equivalent to forcing people to buy their stuff. I guess the next thing you object to is that actually charge people something for their products. With so much money in the bank they really wouldn't need to do so.

Note that I bought the 12.9" iPad Pro and I have not bought the Pencil or the keyboard cover. According to your logic that isn't really possible since Apple makes us buy those accessories even against our will.

Anyone think that maybe iOS may finally bridge OS X and give us a desktop class OS? Apple keeps saying how the IPP's are the future of computing but there is no way that's possible with iOS. I think that is one area where MS and the Surface have it right.

Or do not try this at home
You are flexing your iPad more merely by picking it up from one corner. If you actually tried it, you would realise that you don't have to press very much for this to work. It'll be well within the range of pressure you would feel comfortable to apply. By all means, don't press harder than you feel is safe, my point is that you won't have to press harder than that to achieve the effect I had described.

But given that no apps really push the Alr 2 to its limits,

I second that!!

Yes There are heavy and graphic intensive games like the Grand Theft Auto games, Gangster Vegas, Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5: Blackout, Dead Trigger 2, Assassin's Creed and all so some apps like Pinnacle Studio, Photoshop Touch, Pixelmator, Procreate and more are pushing the A8X chip in the iPad Air 2 to it's limits!!

Maybe you did not think there was no app or game that is not putting stress on the A8X chip in the iPad Air 2 at the moment yet but there is as I mentioned above and I thought I just correct you on this.. :)

Price rise makes difference, I do agree that jump from air1 to air2 is comparable to the one from air2 to pro - actually, pro is air3 in my eyes. But u could get air2 for former air1 price whereas pro is more expensive as air2 used to be.. Apple just used pro name to rise price, and that us what makes some people to not upgr from air2 to pro..

I should have been more clear. There are apps the fully utilities the the A8X, but there are none that I can see that push it to it's limit where there is noticeable loss in capability.

Melodramatic much ? congratulatons on owning large iPad , though there are people who bought it for its full potential, and that requires a pencil and KB.
You sound like one of those people who would purchase a Mac Pro for desktop needs.....cause you can .

people have bought a 12.9 pro, and use it with a pencil and KB to get the most out of it for content creation, deal with the fact that you need those accessories! Enjoy your large expansive iPad for movies and Facebook.....

Not sure it's worth it, I just see the utility of a macbook air far greater than this ipad. Especially having a full OS, file system, and USB ports.

I don't know I thought it was alright at first till I found out about the 2gb of ram and usb2 speeds. The price cut on the air 2 looks like a better deal than $200 for 2 speakers and 1 generation better processor.

exactly, updating the processor but keeping 2GB RAM and usb2 speeds, when the iPad pro 12.9 has 4GB and usb3 is laughable

don't forget iPad Pro 9.7 is STILL using gen1 touch id

you're going to be in for a rude awakening if you expect major UI update for iOS on iPad

I think what bothers me most about the 9.7 Pro is that up to this point, Apple has continually improved each iteration of the 9.7 iPad with a substantial increase in price. Compared to the Air 1, the Air 2 had (has) a better screen (less reflective, supposedly more responsive), a faster processor and improved graphics capabilities, touch ID, faster wireless, a better camera (according to Apple), more RAM and it was thinner and lighter, with the same battery life. But Apple didn't jack up the price.

This time around, the iPad Pro has a better screen (including pencil capabilities), a faster processor and better graphics capabilities, a "smart" connector, an imbedded SIM (for the cellular models) and four speakers. But Apple slapped a "Pro" moniker on it and jacked up the price (a lot, here in Canada). Apple hasn't charged for improvements like this in the past. But now they do. That's what bothers me about this and is one reason why I won't even consider upgrading.

This is Apple's genius plan to increase iPad sales? I might be proven wrong, but I doubt it. Up to this point, I've been a Cook supporter, or at least I was neutral. Now, not so much.

Melodramatic much ?
I think you started the melodramatic touch by claiming that the iPad is needing accessories.

Congratulatons on owning a large iPad , though there are people who bought it for its full potential, and that requires a pencil and KB.
And the full potential of previous (9.7") iPads did not require a KB? Why do I feel judged for buying something and then not using it to its full potential? Next thing you'll chide camera manufacturers because they offer interchangeable lenses for (some) of the cameras. Because to use the full potential of those cameras, you need to buy all the lenses they have on offer. That seems to be a (financially) far more egregious misdemeanour.

You sound like one of those people who would purchase a Mac Pro for desktop needs.....cause you can.
Maybe I just wanted to have a larger screen (and 4 GB of RAM and something faster than an A5)? But you seem to have decided already that everybody that buys a pencil-ready tablet and then doesn't use a pencil is poser who buys stuffs just because she or he has too much money. Do you apply the same judgement to people who buy an interchangeable lens camera and then only use a handful of lenses with it?

People have bought a 12.9 pro, and use it with a pencil and KB to get the most out of it for content creation, deal with the fact that you need those accessories! Enjoy your large expansive iPad for movies and Facebook.....
There is plenty of content creation that does not involve a pencil. Those that need a pencil deal with it, those that don't need it for their type of work aren't bothered at all by Apple offering a pencil.

And guess what, I already have a 4-year old Bluetooth keyboard and a tablet stand, but I presume according to your logic the iPad Pro can only be used with Apple's new keyboard cover.

As someone who's just been getting into photography (and just bought a really nice camera and an expensive Adobe RGB monitor for my desktop), I can't stand True Tone and have turned it off. I spend a long time tweaking the colors in my photos and I really like using the iPad for viewing photos, so I don't want the colors distorted. Night Shift is okay, because I don't mind it being yellowed for the brief time I use my iPad before bed. But True Tone, while good for people who don't care much about photography or graphics, isn't going to work for me.

Also, Night Shift is just one change at a designated time. But with TrueTone I was very aware that the screen was changing just while moving the iPad around my house, and that bugged me. It was like "hey, wasn't this more yellow a few minutes ago?"

I understand where you are coming from and to an extent I agree with you.
However, even with true tone switched off, your perception of the screen colours is going to change according to ambient light (to a point).
That's why we should calibrate screens under controlled temperature lighting.
Bottom line is that true color reproduction from an iPad is always going to be a bit hit and miss, in the first place because you haven't done the calibration, but especially so if you move around the house while you are doing the editing.

If I was buying and iPad today then this new model is a no brainer. Would I upgrade my Air 2 to this, absolutely NOT! My son though is in the market for one, but he is saying because they don't have a 64gb he will just wait till they have some $100 off sales around the holidays and purchase a 128gb model.

Apple could have at least put in 3 gigs of Ram and USB 3.0
[doublepost=1459708128][/doublepost]
I agree with you, unless it's an on the move item where space is THE most important issue, I'd go with the larger model.
Personally however, I could not deal with the fact the smaller model has the better camera, and we are probably only 6 months away from the larger model getting updated with the same camera, AND probably a spec bump in general, so for the sake of 6 months, given the price point I think I'd make do with what I have till then.
Exactly my thoughts, the Fall 12.9" iPad pro is going to be perfect- A10x chip, 4 gigs of RAM, 12MP iSight Camera, 5MP Front Camera, USB 3.0 Lightning Port, TrueTone Display. Will be an absolutely perfect device! Now that I will get on Black Friday lol

Just purchased a Space Black 128GB LTE IPP a few hours ago. Maybe it's my eyes, but I see almost no difference between the Air 2 and the IPP. If you don't need keyboard and/or pen there seems to be no point.

I'm not returning it, just giving my opinion.

Agreed. I'll go one further. Unless you want Apple Pencil Support in the 9.7" Form Factor omitting any keyboard needs it's not worth it. Even at entry, $599 + AP $99 that's $700.
Should have been the iPad 3 starting at $499 with 32g. I'll keep my Air 2 thanks. ;)

I guess it's accepted that if you have an Air 2, then they'll be a better upgrade worth holding out for. If you're a new user to iPad like me, it's the one to go for. It was the one I was holding out for.

Wow, the reviewer quoted saved a whole 2-3 seconds when opening the Music App. As reasons to buy that's really scrapping the barrel. It's a good incremental upgrade rather than anything spectacular. Personally I think it's a mistake to confuse customers even further with yet another product. They should scrap all the numbers, get rid of all the older models still on sale and simplify the iPad range to 8" Mini, 10" Air and 12" Pro.

Who ever said it was anything else?

As for your plan, good thing you're not running Apple.

Well as I listed, the screen is a huge upgrade. Much better color, less reflectivity, and true tone is great. iPad is all about the screen so I'd rather have the best available screen. The speakers are awesome also. I listen to a lot of music and watch movies using my iPad and the improved sound is perfect for me. In terms of speed, everything just feels faster, loading webpages, games, animations are smoother. It's the best iPad out there, might as well enjoy it.

Honestly, you sound like you are trying to justify the purchase, but I will have to try the device for myself and see if I agree.

The fact is that there isn't a huge increase in screen quality between the Pro 12'' and the Air 2, minor at best. The iPad Mini 4 beats them both in color accuracy. We'll see how the Pro 9.7'' does under serious analysis but I doubt there will be a huge difference with either the Pro 12'' or the Air 2.

IMO the ultimate device is an iPad pro that works with an iOS like UI when using it as a tablet, and with an OSX like UI when using it with a mouse, keyboard, and external monitor. I still hope OSX XI will be that, and universal OS for all kinds of devices.

Alas, I imagine that will not happen. Apple couldn't possibly be seen copying Microsoft...
