It's a pity iPhone 12 mini is selling so poorly...
I love my iPhone 12 Mini. My guess is phone companies giving away iPhones for new customers dont want to look cheap so they give away the big phones.

I think I am the only one here that uses my iPhone (7) to make phone calls. I have no data plan and the only app I ever use is the calculator. I'm glad Apple is doing so well, but I miss the days when they were a computer company.
Lol someone missed the news on the M1. Pity.

Oops wait sorry, modern parlance.

SAD.

Whenever I see articles like this, I have to re-read it to see if this is US only, and it was.

It would be more interesting to see the numbers in other countries.

Come on! Buy more Minis! I bought one for my wife immediately. She hates the big phones. She even complains about how big the Mini is compared to her iPhone SE (1st gen), and she would still complain until recently how much taller her SE was compared to the 4S because it would stick out of the top of her jeans pockets. Genuinely curious where other women keep these giant phones. I've heard purse but that seems pretty dumb. Who wears a purse all day? Especially if you have an active job where you can't do that. Is there some company that makes jeans for women but with man-sized pockets? I just don't get why I don't hear more women complaining about this since my wife is so vocal.

I also don't like how low the regular sized Pro is on that graph. Makes me concerned. I bought the Max this time because of the camera stuff but think I'm going to go back next time.

Also that graph is a bit confusing. What a weird way to present these stats.

Most women has purse or handbag with them at all times. In betweens, they just hold their phones with a ring/pop-socket on their cases. And those who with more active work environment (eg. nurses) have lanyards for their phones, that I've observed.

Nothing's wrong with your wife's choice, but just because that's her choice, doesn't mean it applies to everybody else.

I was going to go on a rant about people still buying the 8 and XR. Then I realized, this list isn't sales. It's simply activations. Meaning hand me down phones getting re-activated to a new person. And that makes more sense.

No one wants Android OS. I think it has run its course with similar iterations, but with different manufacturers.
More like there a lot more Android phone models on the market so the number is dispersed through a lot more individual models.

Eg. if there are 10 people buying an iPhone 12, there will be 10 people buying 10 different Android models. So iPhone 12 gets 10 activations, while each Android phone model only gets 1 activation.

Would it be a bad idea to keep a low cost 4.7" SE type design in their line up for years to come in the $$350 - $400 price range ? Or is the design just to outdated ? Maybe they'll just keep bumping down the price of the XR.

The iphone 12 isn't lumped into one category. What the chart is implying is the popularity of phone models...not the popularity of operating systems as you are suggesting.

If Apple sold $200 - $300 versions of the iPhone they would steal a huge portion of the Android market share. Many Android users use Android because they're cheaper not because they prefer the os.

Probably true. But, then, Apple optimizes profits, not market share.

First, thanks for the data !

Second, what we're looking at here is simply "gifts," I believe, here in the States.

Third, NOT surprised to see the iPhone 11 get the top spot, it is both High-Perf & the Best Value, by-far, in the iPhone line up !

Fourth, very surprised to see the XR in the next stop, it is, in fact, a Dog ! ... Perf is severely limited by a lack of DRAM !

Yeah, it’s important to remember that this is US-only data. I remember reading that the mini was very popular in some countries, Japan for instance.

Part of the mini problem is the price. We expected it to be the same price as the SE 1 Price.

I don’t think anybody reasonable was expecting that. The idea behind the mini is that a group of people were clamoring for was a small, but premium phone, and that means not cheap.

I'm glad you're loving your iPhone 13 mini, dear time traveler. Tell me, do they still build them with a lightning connector or they ditched it already?

I heard the company was surprised that it didn't sell in China. It turns out that the Chinese treat phones as status symbols; the bigger your phone, the more important you are. So nearly everyone there was buying the 12 Pro Max.
That is part of it. The fact that Apple did the gold bling color for the 12 Pro kinda speaks for itself. :D

Another part is that most people in China/Asia use mass public transport, and they consume their entertainment while on it. So many people prefer features like larger screens and better battery life, especially at the prices Apple is charging for iPhones.

Even cheap Redmi phones now have 6.5" screens.
