I paid 970 dollars, and there are others who paid 1 grand. Those people aren't complaining if you can't afford it then don't buy it. It's that simple.

As I mentioned, it's a discussion about the intrinsic value not about complaining or about not being able to afford it. The moronic comment section would be good to re-read too.

Add another line to your plan and use the dummy lines upgrade.

Yes, that's what I do. Every other year, I device swap the new iPhone from the dummy line to my line and put a dumbphone back on the dummy line for $10/month and I upgrade my own line every other year. This won't work on the family share plan though.

That's a good idea. So all you pay is $120 extra a year for a second number that you don't use?

I'm a heavy data user with a lot of email, some tethering, and normal business use. The excitement is addictive that is for sure. Loosing the free tethering is going to be an issue.

If you're on verizon you can activate hotspot as needed, deactivate at the end of the day. So if you say use it for 10 out of 30 days, you'll only get charged $10 instead of $30.

Try $1200 Canadian after taxes for the 6+ 128 GB.

Like others have said, it's a device you usually use 24/7, for work and play, so it's not that bad.

A tv costs $1000+ for a good one and you only watch that a few hours a day, if you work.

Perspective.

I'm on AT&T. My plan was to actually just swap my sim into my S4 when I need to tether and wait for a Jailbreak to install MyWi.

Buying outright on a prepaid plan is expensive, but buying subsidized on a contract is even more so. I left Verizon last fall on the day my contract ended and went with Page Plus, carrying my iPhone 4S with me.

I'm looking at upgrading, but the price of the iPhone 6, as nice as it is and perfect in size to me, is making me seriously consider the new Moto X and switching to Android. I may end up with a 5S because I love iOS and its seamless integration with my iPad Air and rMBP, but I'm not crazy about the form factor of the 5/5S. Simply elongating the 4/4S never struck me as an optimal design.

My wife and I always buy our phones at full cost (no subsidy) as we need them unlocked (for travel) and we're grandfathered under an amazing plan which we'd lose if we take up the upgrades. I have no issues with affording it, heck it's not even 2 days' pay to cover a 128GB 6+ but, like others, I'm just not sold on its value.

At the end of the day it's a phone and I have no emotional attachment to it. Our 5s are serving us well. I think Google is pushing the right idea; sub $500 off contract unlocked high-end phones. That's where the market is slowly heading, but I don't blame Apple for milking it for all its worth. They gotta strike while the iron's hot.

They do that on the family share plan but not that I know of on the individual plan, assuming you can still add another line.

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. They pretty much try almost anything every time I talk to customer service to switch me off the unlimited data.

I paid nothing upfront for mine thanks to Verizon's Edge program. Can't wait to trade it in for a 6S Plus next year ;)

Well I actually use the lines for other members in my family, and they are using iPhones too, so they aren't dummy lines for me; but else I would still pay the 120 extra because it's cheaper then the alternatives.

I would much rather own the phone and sell it rather then rent it for a year and no equity in it. That's $512 to rent the thing for a year and then just start all over again.

Exactly. Leasing anything is an even worse way to throw away money.

Lmao! Are people really talking about equity on a product that loses its value? :D you guys are a hoot!

Get an education. Equitable assets can still depreciate.

Of course it looses value. But it's like a Lexus. They are still worth decent money even after some miles and a little wear. Selling used iPhone's most definitely has some return on your initial investment. All these trade in programs are such a rip vs the value on the open market.
