The camera in the iPod is crap. I never use it.

What are you on about? The 5th gen iPod camera takes pretty decent pictures!

I bought the 5th gen iPod hoping to get a decent always-with-me camera. Not the case. It's the worst camera I've ever owned. It's difficult to hold, has extremely long shutter lag, is very noisy in low light, lens doesn't zoom, and doesn't support memory cards.

Looks so much more elegant without that camera sticking out the back.

I like it.

that camera sticking out the back was the reason i didn't buy one. removing the camera completely is another reason i won't buy one.

meet me in the middle, Apple. Make the camera flush, like all of your other products.

I am sure this will be the the cheaper iPhone version which will comes in few months.

No way will they release a cheaper iPhone without a camera. But maybe now people will stop assuming a cheaper iPhone has to be plastic.

Looks like a long sleep.
What would it be good for in times of cloud-storage?

The needed sleep will end - at least for the iPhone - this autumn. Also, people like to have their photos, music, videos etc. on their device without being dependent on having an internet connection and/or a huge data plan.

It still has a front camera/video which would still not cut it in areas that don't allow cameras. This includes government, gyms, many tech companies, etc.

Just because it doesn't have a back camera (it's 2013, why not) it still will be banned.

Form over function and overpriced given the specs.

Just curious exactly what the "form over function" is since we have no idea why they removed the camera.

I wonder if from now on, the black/silver color is going to go along with the lower end/last year's version. Chances are the new full size iPad is going to come in black/slate or white/silver, and if they keep a black/silver model around, that will be the cheaper one.

Perhaps the lower cost iPhone will be in this color.

I am confused about the intention behind releasing this model - now. WWDC is planned in around 10 days. And rumors say, new iPhone will be coming with fingerprint sensors and this also means, iOS7 will also support it. Usually releases of iPhone and iPod touch are kept together as they resemble in terms of basic iOS functionality.

If they are really releasing fingerprint sensors in new iPhone, then New iPod Touch with fingerprint sensors will be released. Then this is already obsolete.

Or maybe they are not going to release new iPhone with rumored features.

I don't think you are following the rumors. They aren't releasing new iPhones or iPods at WWDC. They are still probably 3-4 months away from doing that.

Man, that's one beautiful device. I've always loved having black on the front and a silver back. Hope that option is available for future iPhones.

Best design ever, aluminum with black. I hope the next iPhone looks like this and like the iPhone 2G. Black + Metal.

Anyone who says "iPhones are already thin, they don't need to be any thinner" should hold one of these. They'll soon change their minds.

I own one, and I don't recommend the thinness. The thinness makes it slip out of my hands too easily and fell to the floor several times, so I had to get a case to thicken it up (and protect it). The aluminum plus the thin sides doesn't give a proper grip in my hands. I didn't have this issue with the previous generation's iPod Touches and any of the iPhones. I absolutely love my 5th gen iPod Touch and it's otherwise a beautiful design, but it's just a little too thin.

I admit. I really like this device. A LOT.

while I"m not a fan of the look / feel of the iphone5 for a phone. (subjective OPINION, dont jump down my bloody throat)

This for a portable MP3 player is damn nice.

Plus the cost reduction to remove the Camera is something I like. This MIGHT just replace my ipod touch 1st gen :p.

no really. I don't need my ipod to be some all in one do everything and the kitchen sink device. that is what I have my phone for.

What I want is just a 'cheap' pmp that i can keep plugged in my car deck 90% of the time, does automatic wifi synching of my music and media, that ALSO can be taken with me on trips.

A camera, and a 'low calibre' one is just an added expense that is irrelevant on such a device. if I'm out and about and want quick snapshots, I'll just use my phone. if i'm out and about and want real photos, I'll use a real camera
