I'm sorry, but if you think Apple will release a software update that will incorporate things like Copy/Paste and MMS support on the 1st gen iPhone and iPhone 3G, you are mistaken. Sure, software udpates will occur to address a variety of issues but...
just think about the iPod video...let's go back in time to when the now "iPod Classic" was released in 80GB and 160GB versions. They were released with a snazzy new OS with coverflow to match the new version of iTunes, direct shuffle and was more efficient providing longer battery life. However, those with the 60 or 80GB iPod Video did not receive a software update that placed this new OS with the better graphics, new font, coverflow and direct shuffle (shuffle without going back out to the main menu --> clicking the select button 3 times during playback).
So when the new iPhone is released this summer, don't expect your phone to have the same exact OS functionality as the new version.

True but that was really a limitation of those generation IPODS. I doubt they had the power to handle cover flow type interface.

But I do agree in part that the new iPhone will have features and applications available that the previous versions will not be able to handle.

Guess we'll see!

Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree here. The difference here is that the iPhone has an OS and SDK for developers to write for, whereas with the iPod there was no such thing (well... you know what I mean). Because some of these updates are OS level, it (in theory at least) would have to work down to the original iPhone. If Apple institutes copy and paste, then you can darn bet that it better work on all current iPhones.

So it exists and is being beta tested by Apple.

I'm eager to know what it looks like, how big, what capacity and what power it has. And of course, the most important one, the price tag.

While I havent heard much about this new iPhone, it sounds very promising, I hear a completely new design for starters

I don't know why people are so obsessed with people obsessed with the megapixels in the iphone's camera

Bravo. Instead of responding with a valid argument you opted for a childish response.

I guess I'll leave you be with dreams of a 58MP iPhone since MP are what matters most.

Kevin Rose,...

...who was doing a live stream @ ustream.tv tonight (1/29), mentioned that his "source" said the new phone will have an FM tuner. Personally I'm not that excited about this feature. However, for those of you that live in areas with decent FM stations; (that aren't streaming yet on one of the radio apps) perhaps this holds some interest for you. Assuming, of course, this little tid bit of information from Kevin is accurate.

After yesterday's story that [url="https://www.macrumors.com/2009/01/28/next-generation-iphone-model-revealed-in-firmware/"]evidence of an unreleased iPhone
had been spotted in recent firmware as well as ad delivery networks, PinchMedia follows up with what few details they have about the usage of the device.

If this is an iPhone nano, or perhaps a "premature" replacement of a killer product (think iPod mini -> iPod nano), it's all over but the shooting. :)

Nobody turns around killer polished products like Apple. It's the fast and continuous innovation that is bewildering the competition.

We're not TALKING about the iPhone nano! Don't bring this into every conversation!

We're talking about the standard, third-generation iPhone that will be released in June.

But you're right; there is no sense in it.

No sense in what?
No sense in a new iphone? Err..how about..
1) 5MP camera with flash..
2) BT ADP2
3) user replaceable battery
4) 2nd vga front camera

And how about the OS releasing the TIGHT controls over ringtone, system tone settings, support for MMS, and the list goes on and on as most smartphones already have these features as a standard.

New iPhone!

I have an exclusive info about the new iPhone. The new iPhone will be a bit smaller and it will have 2 cameras. One in the back and one in front of the device. A friend of mine is working inside Apple.

All right! 1st post, this is what I want. I want to be able to receive picture text msgs with out having to go to that godawful at&t website and have to remember a different godawful, grab your pen and paper to remember this one, password! Horrible! I want to be able to take pictures with my phone, and forward them by text without having to email them! So annoying! I just want to forward plain old text msgs for pete's sake! Especially some of the funny good picture ones that I get. The whole texting platform is in dire needs of a major overhaul from top to bottom. Then of course a better camera. Can care less about the MP's, a flash, a little zoom maybe would nice, and of course video! And being able to text that video as well....

Just fix the damn texting problem and I'm a happy iPhone 3g camper! Can't wait to see what this new is all about? Hmm, 'nother phone for the biz? I love write offs... Especially apple write offs! Thank you America for making this happen!

My friend too. He said there's actually three cameras. One you can extend out and do nifty upskirt shots.

user agent string?

Are they just reporting seeing some user agent string on a web site hit? So anyone could program a browser to say it's running on an "iPhone 3,1", hit the free wifi at a few coffee shops in and around Cupertino, browse Pinch, MacRumors and a few other sites, and start their own news story?

I don't. I'd buy the new one if I liked it. I like my phone how it is, and if the new one makes me think "wow, I want it" I will upgrade.

Why don't people get someone to MMS to YOUR BLOODY EMAIL ADDRESS? MMS works if people send it to your email. Just tell your friends. It's not a hard thing to do. You can also reply that way.

My Birthday is in june and my contract is up in june also (2 years ago bought myself a blackberry for my birthday present) Hmmm...

PinchMedia provides iPhone developers with ad serving and analytic tracking software to embed within iPhone applications. This is how the the iPhone 2,1 devices have been detected.

So are they saying that all those free apps we are so fond of are rife with spyware?:(

Whenever you browse a website information about the browser you are using is passed to the site's servers. This information contains certain details such as operating system, browser, browser version etc. Have you seen on these forums when someone has this on their post:

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5G77 Safari/525.20)

It is essentially this information that is passed on to the site/ad provider. Those freeware applications that are ad supported will use the browser feature to get the adverts into the applications and as such that information is passed on.

Hope that helps explain it.

Sigh

I want tog et an iPhone, my contrac with my current mobile provider just finished but i'm still hesitant until apple sorts out the email/push functionality and the non ability to edit word and excel documents.

In a work enviroment, once you have had the blackberry experience i find going to anything else lacking

Better camera would be nice but not essential.

i don't think there will be a "front camera" for iChat conversation or anything like that... this is such an useless feature, apple won't go for that...there are more import things too improve!
