I'm really interested in this but was hoping for more info on the iWatch.

A connected health database is a really good thing, as long as they have the privacy thing licked. Your iGadget will be storing a lot more than just your fingerprint.

How is this innovation?

Apple did two things today:
1) Connected the devices they all ready make
2) Enable developers deeper access to the system

No new innovations from Apple yet again.

At least Tim has learned he is a bumbling idiot and let Craig to most of the talking. Now if only they had more then one guy who could give a presentation maybe I could stay focused.

(and don't call me a troll, I have been buying Apple for longer then most. Just look at the stock price after the announcement today...)

Maybe we will see something exciting at the iPhone/iPad announcements later this year.

I really can't get you.
Feature-wise, this is the biggest keynote Apple has announced since the iPad. This is definitely a long-term play: it doesn't make as much fanfare as a new product, but this is huge! It's all about making ground for what's about to come; a simply brilliant move from Apple.
Honestly, you couldn't ask for more.

Don't know if this makes me an "apologist", I'd rather be known as an "explanationist"...

I think the point behind the Developer's conference is to focus on what third parties can bring to the table. If Apple trotted out an all inclusive system as suggested by the rumors, the Developers would look at each other and say, "So what? What am I supposed to do with this?" Apple today trotted out a puzzle board and gave developers a platform to 1) make their innovations relevant 2) monetize their competencies without expanding into less familiar territories and 3) gave the apple consumers choices about which apps will function best to funnel info into the health app. (i.e. I like runKeeper and my friends like something else)

Rather than create the rumor which may or may not work for people and they'd revert back to a fragmented array of apps, they are telling developers to bring their apps (puzzle pieces) to the board and the sum of the differences will be a customized solution for anyone.

The more I think of it, I like it. From a competitive standpoint with Windows and Android, I think it will be effective as well.

It wasn't just for the developers thought.
They showed off many many features of the new OSes that were end user oriented.

They were all very nice; just no breakthrough.

Overall I'm happy with OS X 10.10 and iOS 8, but the Health app to me is just 'meh'. I'd love to have all kind of information pop up there, but it just seems like a lot of it I need to manually enter into other apps and what not for it to populate there. The integration with Mayo Clinic is cool, but as someone who lives in Canada, and doesn't even have iTunes Radio yet, I doubt any of this stuff is going to see the light of day here.

Having been watching the show Continuum lately though, I'd love to have some kind of chip implanted in me that would just feed all of this info directly to my phone.

If American's have proven one thing, it's that they don't care about their health (see obesity epidemic).

You seem to get 2 camps: those that don't care (obesity epidemic) and those that care too much (medicated for everything under the sun).
Just from personal observations dammit I'm not a doctor.

Can I delete it then? Probably not. Waste of space for a few songs for my usage.

There's apps that I can't delete that I never use. If you are really struggling over a few megabytes then it's time to look at a bigger capacity or deleting one of many, I assume useless apps you've installed.

I can see it being extremely useful to a lot of people, or simply just interesting to keep track of your health related information.

Like why on the iPhone (I get why on the iPad and iPod Touch) do I have a contacts app? I have had three iPhones and never used it. There's simply zero need for it to be there when you have the Phone app.

Yes, IMO the privacy angle has to be reasonably well done right from the start, so as not to scare off a lot of people.

Poor Johnny Appleseed, so young, yet on those medications...
Cool feature overall but a bit late to the game (there are already tons of fitness/health apps out there). Apple is probably planning something bigger e.g. integration with iWatch

If there is an iwatch, I really hope the "health" part of it is better than what Apple offered today.

Care to elaborate, other than the obvious goal of being first and not providing meaningful comment?

So far all I see is a nicety for health care industry if patients so choose to use this, but overall I find it hard to fathom the majority of people will care enough to track this type of information to even care about Apple's all in one location for putting the info. If American's have proven one thing, it's that they don't care about their health (see obesity epidemic).

Now, you're being just plain ole' silly. Not sure where on earth you are from……. but have you taken a look at some of the folks in Germany and the UK….. I don't see those countries (the ppl there) heading in the "right" direction. How's YOUR health?

I don't understand your last paragraph there.

I see it being useful of course. I am not struggling over space since I am not a heavy phone user, but IMO I should be able to delete what I wish from MY phone. Others feel the same about that kind of stuff. I have very few apps installed. Newsstand is one I would like to be rid of to keep it cleaner and less cluttered. Again just the way I would want to use my phone is all.

I agree. I DO track my health fairly closely (cancer survivor) and even I don't think I would spend the time required to enter all this data. Sure it's a nice enough app but seriously you'd have to be a bit obsessive to keep it all up.

And lets be honest, outside of the small percentage that WOULD spend the time and effort to track all of this, most people don't really7 care that much. Health is something most people talk about, and say they are going to track, and improve, and eat healthier, and exorcise, and...they just don't. People walk around with untreated high blood pressure, and diabetes, and illnesses, and such because they just don't care enough, or have the time and energy to, deal with it.

This wasn't a big part of the Keynote because Apple realizes that it is a niche market and won't drive sales in the millions of units.

Who knows, maybe it will be an option like iBooks when the update goes live?

There's an App on your iPhone called 'Contacts' it is just like the 'Phone' app but only lists peoples names. I hate it because what's the point? I just click on 'Phone' and have a list of all my contacts PLUS the ability to see favourites, call people, dial numbers, check voicemail. I don't see why Apple don't remove it from the iPhone version of iOS as it's utterly pointless.

But I do agree with you on Newsstand as I don't use it and I also hate cluttering up my iPhone. Would be better served as a free App Store download.
